When stargazer Zach watches the sky one night, he sees a star fall and land in the nearby woods. He rushes to check it out, only to find that out the star was actually a girl, and with her, magic returns to the world. – Over 200 quests to find and complete for rewards – Customize Aura’s magic abilities by finding meteors – Seek out puzzle caves for additional rewards – Three possible weddings between party members! – Travel by boat, by underground train and by fire wing There were many missions and opportunities in the game, overall I liked it. Sometimes it was a little annoying, because you had to run around a lot and sometimes it was hard to find out what to do. Written as a prologue to a larger game, this piece concerns a boy who lives a life of drudgery in a magical underground city until he takes on a quest to save it from destruction. The whole game is spent kitting him out for the journey; the moment you actually embark, the game ends. Competently put together, but I'd still rather have a complete story.
This is one of my all-time favourite RPGs and I play it about once a year. The story is great, the characters are well-defined. It's funny and romantic. Loads to do and a quest journal to keep you on track of what you're doing. I wish there were more games like this. I also wish that Steam would get Stargazer Christmas. If you agree you could try putting it on your Wishlist - I've got it on mine and if enough of us did this maybe it'll work.
Extremely basic RPGmaker combat, which means it is boring and grindy. No run button so it takes ages to move. While it's par for the course to have hidden nooks and crannies with stuff, every map is a freaking maze and a pain to navigate. All this might be fine but the plot is stupid. Characters are stupid. There are attempts at humor constantly in a half-way 4th wall breaking or "this whole world is a nonrealistic joke" manner, which is or can be valid and fun if it goes all the way monkey island-style, but here it is just stupid. The dialogue pains me and is stupid. Life is stupid.
I did finished the game. There is a video of gameplay in my youtube channel if you curious about the game. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlCSaIQsfZRcwhnyqLinVPYny-uzMkfQH Overall, I'm pleased with the game especially with the characters personality. i'm quiet disappoint with the gameplay mechanic as I will explain about it further. What I like about the game: 1) The characters has a personality - I'm definitely love the character personality in this game. You will remember the character just by their way of talking. Grayson a straightforward person, Thyme likes to tease, Scarbeck the geek, Aura a childish woman, Zach a daydream person, Amelia the smarty pants, and lastly Kala is kinda like a combination of Grayson and Kala. Overall, a witty characters. 2) The graphic design -For the genre of "Obscure RPG maker", the character design and place is fine with me. But it still use the same NPC characters similar to aveyond and ect. 3) The soundtrack The soundtrack is to be expected which is mellow, and ambient. Meh 1)The story line -The story line in Stargazer is to me a similar "Your the chosen one" kind of story. It is not necessarily bad because the journey towards the main quest is fun. What I hate 1)Barebone Game mechanics -Now this one I hate the most, leveling does not do anything besides raising your HP (except for Aura which she gets new spell from meteor, and Kala leveling specific to learn 3 new more spells). I prefer the character learn new spells as the leveling up. This may seems like a pros to people as it could make the game easy to play, but I don't see people complaint with their characters learning new skills and develop their strategy instead of using dominant strategy.
Tags: Topdown - RPGMaker&PartyRPG Additional Tags: Delete Local Content&Remove from Library TLDR: Poorly paced, handholding scripting that prevents exploration. Aimed at a niche millenial audience whom care about safe spaces and female representation. The initial setup is fairly classic, a star falls, which contains an angel/woman person from presumably another world or dimension. You start the game in a small village that is obsessed with drinking beet root juice, that segegates their children in girl and boys club. For some reason the starperson immediately takes a liking to taking instructions from young girls, and wants to join their club, and the first mission that was given to me as a player was to bring cider to the clearly very young children. The guards are women, many npcs have pink or purple hair and the male representation is arguably fairly neutered or castrated or casting them in stubborn short sighted leadership roles meant to instill a low opinion of them from the player. It may have its audience, but I am clearly not that intended audience. I am a curious, inquisitive type however and I really was curious to see how the author was going to shape the story, and what possible accidental or purposeful infractions to what one could consider decency and common sense morals the game would feature. The game features quite a few buildings that are reserved as safe spaces for marginalized people which follows in the tradition of going to a guild for quests, I think it is an interesting spin on it, but these people were just pacing back and forth in a building and did not seem to really have much to say about what they did there so the interest remains limited and they had no quests to offer, probably waiting for the on-rails story to progress and guide the player to those locations. Unfortunately after spending a solid twenty minutes pixelhunting the village and running around in circles, trying the shops and trying to exit the village, nothing really yielded that cider, there were few directions to be found, and if I am to find a walkthrough to progress I might as well just watch a lets play of the game, it would suit my purposes equally as far as finding out what the author was going to portray and how, but ultimately my curiosity has its limits as well and I would rather just move on from this. It seems to feature some custom art and the setting is so blatant in its social stance that it is intruiging but nothing that you could not find on a tumbler, a blog, or on deviantart. Removing permanently for declutter.
