About
Starbase is a massively multiplayer online game with gameplay focused on building and designing spaceships and stations, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, trading, and combat.
Set in a universe of vast scale and detail, the fully-destructible environment and hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics enable simulations in Starbase at immense depth, giving players the ultimate freedom to exploit their innovativeness and creativity. From constructing spaceships that can endure the hazards of space, such as collision and corrosive damages, to creating massive automated factories and designing electricity and data networks, the players are free to do it their own way.

A single persistent Universe - Play and interact online with thousands of players and start shaping the world with your fellow robots.
Build, fight, chat and group up with other players to discover and settle the vast galaxy that is waiting for its first conquerors to make their mark.
Mine asteroids by yourself, trade and haul cargo with your friends, or build a station with a huge company.
Success in Starbase is not measured in hours played or an endless grind, but in the ingenuity of each player and their ability to work together.

The environment in Starbase is fully destructible, made possible by a mixture of voxel and fracture damage - Everything can be destroyed or disassembled with the right kind of tools and weaponry.
The in-depth physics simulation enabled by hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics make fights, exploration and flying spaceships a creative paradise
The simulation of structural and elemental durability in the game adds its own twist and challenge to the efforts to conquer space; poorly designed superstructures combined with overpowered steering thrusters can snap the spaceships in half if cutting corners too much in a space race.
Note: Station destruction will be added in the September Siege Mechanics Update

Design and build your spaceship, stations and devices down to the tiniest detail, and live the spaceship designer dream by selling your blueprints.
The smallest building unit in Starbase is a single bolt, allowing you to build, repair and modify spaceships, stations, and devices as you wish.
Even the smallest ships have thousands of parts, each with their own detailed damage model, making building and designing a truly creative process.
Learning to use the in-game programming chips will take building and designing to a new level; innovation, automation of ships and creating clever ship layouts will make all the difference!

Engage in seamless FPS and spaceship combat with thousands of players simultaneously.
Fly solo or crew up with others to divide roles and responsibilities.
Creative thinking, crazy ideas and daring maneuvers can turn the tide of battles!

Explore the infinitely expanding universe, and discover stations, asteroid fields, spaceship wrecks, social hubs and fellow travelers.
Arrange an exploration mission with friends and find out what's hidden in the depths of space and the faraway moons
Beware of pirates and unknown dangers when venturing into the uncharted territories!

Mine raw minerals from asteroids and salvage different parts from broken ships, trade your salvaged goods at trading stations, or steal from others if that floats your (space)boat.
Buy, sell and trade ship parts, materials, weapons, tools, ammo, designs, and invent new ways of earning credits in a player driven economy.
Form friendships and alliances, group up with others and establish factions to build massive stations and tackle the most difficult hurdles space has to offer.

Starting station safe zones safeguard the new player experience
Dynamic safe zones configurable on player-owned stations
Starbase is developed with Frozenbyte’s internal game engine that is custom-built for conquering space, enabling the use of extremely challenging combination of voxel and vertex technologies in the game. The modern engine has been built specifically with Starbase in mind and the engine’s architecture is designed to handle all the quirks of simulation, damage, building, player amounts and the ever-growing universe to match the challenges the ambitious vision of the game can pose. Similarly, all features of the game have been developed with the infinite scale and the creative freedom of the players in mind.
Starbase has been in secret development for five years without restraints and the development will continue until the game’s bold vision is achieved. In the ever-expanding space the scale can range from the unit of one bolt to massive space station structures, with exploration missions varying from journeys to nearby asteroid fields, to salvaging ship debris, and eventually to other galaxies.
In Starbase players are given the freedom to build the kind of universe they want to, and a small group of players can eventually form large factions that challenge the powers that be. Being inventive will also help, as cleverness often triumphs over brute force in Starbase, and the only limitation is the creativity of the players.
Starbase Early Access will introduce the players, the pioneers, to a new galaxy that they can begin to explore from a bunch of huge stations located at the orbit of a single planet. As the players eventually settle the entire orbit, they can start finding ways to travel to the planet’s moons and someday all the way to other planets and distant star systems. The still unoccupied universe of Starbase offers players the chance to take part in the building of the galaxy and in discovering what will be the first steps in the twilight of space travel.
Early Access allows the players to design, build & modify spaceships, explore the universe, form social connections, and earn money by mining, gathering, crafting and selling resources. The players can start building their home stations and begin the expansion of the Starbase universe together with the developers.
Starbase launches into Early Access in a clear alpha stage, however the core features are well established and there's fun to be had for sure. Check out our current roadmap below:

like everyone else is pointing out, game is more or less abandoned and dead as well. honestly i dont even like MMOs, not sure why i got this, and i cant really provide any valuable opinions on this game because of my disdain for games that do not allow hosting your own servers, but i can say with confidence that it is dead.
came back after awhile. The game is dead and the servers are not working. DO NOT BUY

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Waited for this game to come out for a long time and then was ecstatic to play when I finally got the opportunity. The player base at the beginning was huge and the market was booming. Not long after, players realized that content was pretty scarce. The player base dwindled - and so did the market. With a purely player-driven market, this was not a good sign. I waited a year or so to write a review because I thought they'd update the game. Alas, the only things I see in the "recent events & announcements" list are silly little in-game events. I want new content and less bugs, not an in-game event. The ship building in Starbase is also overly complex and it takes numerous hours just to get something that remotely works. The majority of my hours (at least over half of them) was me watching tutorials on how to design a ship and failing to create it inside the game. The only resort for the common player is to buy a ship from the dozens of shipyards that are scattered around the stations. The problem is that it takes materials to buy a ship. Guess where you can get materials? The market. Guess who runs the market? The players. And how many players are there? 1 or 2 at most. Only a 40 minute trip out into the asteroid belt could suffice. And when you get outside of the "safe zone," you have to be overly cautious of where your ship is going. One glance at your phone could mean that you clip on an asteroid. Now you just lost hours of progress and you can't repair your ship out in the middle of nowhere. The gameplay is repetitive and just not for me. Very good game idea - it just seems that a small niche community took over and instead of good updates on the game, there's a tiny club of people running around doing the "cargo crisis" event over and over. The devs cant even come up with a new event. Maybe another developer can pick up the slack and build a new game (like starbase) from the ground up that focuses on making content and not trying to hold on to what little playerbase it has.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME devs abandoned, waste of time tech demo
The possibilities were endless, and the devs unfortunately failed to deliver on pretty much anything. If you want to build a mining ship and go from A to B collecting some rocks for eternity, you might still get some enjoyment out of this game but if that isn't for you, avoid this game.
I wanna see this game thrive but the devs haven't touched the main build in over 3 years and they're not active on the discord, I just don't see the game coming back anytime soon.
This game is a tinkerer's dream. If you like taking things apart and putting them together you will love it. Essentially everything in this game is a machine and can be fully interacted with, broken down for parts, modified or destroyed (except beginner locations). You start out as a robot who does mining and demolition jobs for credits. It's really just a tutorial to get you some experience, which then earns you your first ship. It's very basic. It has a pilot's chair, controls, some cargo containers, a fuel tank, generator, cables, thrusters. Every single component of the ship down to the bolts is its own item. I unbolted a few things, and now I had some spare bolts in my inventory. The controls run real computer code, which you can modify. The thrusters run off real fuel cells, which need to be replaced. The fuel is delivered via pipes which can be damaged, and must be repaired. An asteroid collission or a bullet shot can render your ship inoperable until you figure out what's broken and repair it yourself, way out there alone in deep space. It's a lot to learn, but you have a lot of fun learning it. Failure is the most important way to learn in this game. I set out on the long slow journey to the asteroid belt, only to realize when I got there that I left my pickaxe, an important tool back on the station. D'OH. The game doesn't remind you when you don't have what you need. You have to figure that out. I sold everything in my inventory to be able to have credits to buy blueprints for a ship only to realize I also needed that same stock I sold to actually build the thing. My ship was well balanced on the way out to a mining expedition, but on returning from a haul I kept drifting to the left. I couldn't figure it out until I realized that the different ores in my containers had changed the balance of my ship. Everything is modelled and has to adhere to the in-game physics. This game thinks of everything, so you have to too. Update: 100 hours later and I'm still having a blast There are moons orbiting the planet Eos in real time that you can visit. Real moons, with their own ores. I upgraded to a fast mining freighter and made my first trip through the warp gate. I explored the moon's belt and found some new ores, but was shot down over Moon City, the only safe zone on the entire moon I made a long trip to the center of the Eos belt and discovered Titan asteroids along the way - asteroids so big they have their own gravity. I crashed my ship just looking at one, and it took a lot of work to figure out how to repair. I made it out of the belt, but I eventually had an entire systems failure. I took apart half the ship to fix it, but I couldn't figure out what was wrong. I had lost my cabling tool so couldn't wire anything together. Then some people in the Discord did some trouble shooting. They told me to take electrically conductive ducts and literally bolt them into the electronics. And then bolt another duct to that duct, and so on. Unbelievably, this worked and power started flowing to those systems again! It felt like a real Apollo 13 moment. This is the coolest game ever.
Money I will never get back. The game has been dead for a few years now. Steam, please, just take it off the platform already, it's unplayable in this state and it should be considered a scam to charge money for it.
I wish i could tell you to play this game. I just cant say it with a player based economy when theres only around 100 players. its one of the best games there is and if you spend the time in it and on the discord this can be your favourite game
Really sad to see this game die. I only had about 8 hours in years ago, was hoping it would take off and add more content; I checked in regularly. I guess I'm finally hopeless for this title. Sad as the design was cool, super atmospheric and vibey. The ship building was really cool. Really a shame it never got adequate funding and the player base it deserved.
