About
Starbase is a massively multiplayer online game with gameplay focused on building and designing spaceships and stations, exploration, resource gathering, crafting, trading, and combat.
Set in a universe of vast scale and detail, the fully-destructible environment and hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics enable simulations in Starbase at immense depth, giving players the ultimate freedom to exploit their innovativeness and creativity. From constructing spaceships that can endure the hazards of space, such as collision and corrosive damages, to creating massive automated factories and designing electricity and data networks, the players are free to do it their own way.

A single persistent Universe - Play and interact online with thousands of players and start shaping the world with your fellow robots.
Build, fight, chat and group up with other players to discover and settle the vast galaxy that is waiting for its first conquerors to make their mark.
Mine asteroids by yourself, trade and haul cargo with your friends, or build a station with a huge company.
Success in Starbase is not measured in hours played or an endless grind, but in the ingenuity of each player and their ability to work together.

The environment in Starbase is fully destructible, made possible by a mixture of voxel and fracture damage - Everything can be destroyed or disassembled with the right kind of tools and weaponry.
The in-depth physics simulation enabled by hybrid voxel/vertex-based game mechanics make fights, exploration and flying spaceships a creative paradise
The simulation of structural and elemental durability in the game adds its own twist and challenge to the efforts to conquer space; poorly designed superstructures combined with overpowered steering thrusters can snap the spaceships in half if cutting corners too much in a space race.
Note: Station destruction will be added in the September Siege Mechanics Update

Design and build your spaceship, stations and devices down to the tiniest detail, and live the spaceship designer dream by selling your blueprints.
The smallest building unit in Starbase is a single bolt, allowing you to build, repair and modify spaceships, stations, and devices as you wish.
Even the smallest ships have thousands of parts, each with their own detailed damage model, making building and designing a truly creative process.
Learning to use the in-game programming chips will take building and designing to a new level; innovation, automation of ships and creating clever ship layouts will make all the difference!

Engage in seamless FPS and spaceship combat with thousands of players simultaneously.
Fly solo or crew up with others to divide roles and responsibilities.
Creative thinking, crazy ideas and daring maneuvers can turn the tide of battles!

Explore the infinitely expanding universe, and discover stations, asteroid fields, spaceship wrecks, social hubs and fellow travelers.
Arrange an exploration mission with friends and find out what's hidden in the depths of space and the faraway moons
Beware of pirates and unknown dangers when venturing into the uncharted territories!

Mine raw minerals from asteroids and salvage different parts from broken ships, trade your salvaged goods at trading stations, or steal from others if that floats your (space)boat.
Buy, sell and trade ship parts, materials, weapons, tools, ammo, designs, and invent new ways of earning credits in a player driven economy.
Form friendships and alliances, group up with others and establish factions to build massive stations and tackle the most difficult hurdles space has to offer.

Starting station safe zones safeguard the new player experience
Dynamic safe zones configurable on player-owned stations
Starbase is developed with Frozenbyte’s internal game engine that is custom-built for conquering space, enabling the use of extremely challenging combination of voxel and vertex technologies in the game. The modern engine has been built specifically with Starbase in mind and the engine’s architecture is designed to handle all the quirks of simulation, damage, building, player amounts and the ever-growing universe to match the challenges the ambitious vision of the game can pose. Similarly, all features of the game have been developed with the infinite scale and the creative freedom of the players in mind.
Starbase has been in secret development for five years without restraints and the development will continue until the game’s bold vision is achieved. In the ever-expanding space the scale can range from the unit of one bolt to massive space station structures, with exploration missions varying from journeys to nearby asteroid fields, to salvaging ship debris, and eventually to other galaxies.
In Starbase players are given the freedom to build the kind of universe they want to, and a small group of players can eventually form large factions that challenge the powers that be. Being inventive will also help, as cleverness often triumphs over brute force in Starbase, and the only limitation is the creativity of the players.
Starbase Early Access will introduce the players, the pioneers, to a new galaxy that they can begin to explore from a bunch of huge stations located at the orbit of a single planet. As the players eventually settle the entire orbit, they can start finding ways to travel to the planet’s moons and someday all the way to other planets and distant star systems. The still unoccupied universe of Starbase offers players the chance to take part in the building of the galaxy and in discovering what will be the first steps in the twilight of space travel.
Early Access allows the players to design, build & modify spaceships, explore the universe, form social connections, and earn money by mining, gathering, crafting and selling resources. The players can start building their home stations and begin the expansion of the Starbase universe together with the developers.
Starbase launches into Early Access in a clear alpha stage, however the core features are well established and there's fun to be had for sure. Check out our current roadmap below:

This is dead now, and it is a shame. Could have been something awesome.
so much potential. hopefully this game makes some sort of come back.
This feel better then space engineers for me, just wish the player numbers didn't fall so far. I think it still has potential to get revived in the future. Plus you get to play as a cool robot!

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Development on this game is currently stopped. All hub areas are deserted. Even while in active development, the key gameplay loop was very shallow, centered around mining with the expectation that players would generate the content in the gaps. This, unfortunately, did not happen, as there was few reasons for players to do anything besides mine, build ships that mine, or get bored and stop playing.
Starbase is a game with a great foundation that really has substantial gaps that get in the way of having a good time, and the devs have not solved those problems since this game went Early Access multiple years ago (from when I am writing this, today being June 27 2025). I bought this game when it entered Early Access, and yeah there were huge bugs, which the devs fixed, and then I had a whole bunch of fun. At that point the game was rather busy and plenty of people playing, it was great! But they sure did release it too early. While I was actually playing the game, I did all sorts of really cool ship customisations that to this day I cannot replace (as an experience) in ANY other game. One of which was manually de-welding and expanding an asteroid hauler ship so that I could haul a particularly large (for me at the time) asteroid. Sure, it was a whole bunch of work, BUT IT WAS FUN and I was able to customise ANY of my ships to very extreme degrees. Not just in terms of changing the parts connected to each other, but the YOLO code for programming systems on the ships was a load of fun too! But that was multiple years ago. I'm not going to really turn this review back to positive until the devs actually make this game something people WANT to play again. PEOPLE DO NOT WANT TO GO MANUALLY EVALUATING ASTEROIDS FOR THEIR COMPOSITION AT LONG DISTANCES and this is a huge part of the early game in the safe zone. I don't know all the things this game needs, but for me not being able to identify which asteroids are worth going for or not, at a long range, turned out to be a game breaker for me. There are huge asteroid fields and only some of them are worth mining... last time I played I had to determine this BY EYE at long distances. THAT IS NOT FUN and what a waste of time. I'm not saying hauling asterioids isn't fun, holy balls can it be really fun and rewarding! But that's AFTER I spend like 2 hours trying to find ONE asteroid I MIGHT actually want, and THEN I haul it back or mine it there. If the devs actually get it together and solve the problems in this game, IT WILL BE GLORIOUS. Because there is SO MUCH other stuff in this game THEY GOT RIGHT. And I for one would think it a huge modern tragedy if this game goes nowhere. C'mon devs, be like no mans sky. Solve the mistakes and make this game something people WANT to play again. IT WILL BE AMAZING if they do that. Until then. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME... unless you want literally the best ship building simulator you can buy. I kid you not, this is hands down better than Space Engineers, Minecraft, or any other game where you can build/design ships manually. THIS GAME IS THE BEST AT IT... but that's about it for now.
A very interesting game engine with fairly engaging mining, salvaging and repairing minigames, but it's multiplayer only. If you spend your money on this and they shut it down they have your money and you have nothing.
this could be the best space game out.....if they did anything with it....its dead now
Ah yes. Another flop to add to the ongoing list since Mass Effect Andromeda so many years ago. The devs like any corporate entity refuse to acknowledge the downfalls and technical limitations of their game. With an extensive history playing space engineers; I was so hyped for this game because it seemed to expand upon what I enjoyed most from the space faring games I love from recent years. I really wanted to love it. Starbase is not a horrible game, but it lacks refinement and polish. The Yolol coding system was a little too much (pair this with the lack of an ease of access alternative like automation of certain scripts) and the constant issues with ship modification; Or just the ships working as intended in general exacerbated the worst parts of the game altogether. The gameplay loop was enticing but technical issue after technical issue just ruined the experience for me. With that said Frozenbyte has been kinda MIA until today, after nearly a year of radio silence, when they randomly announced some event that almost certainly no one will be horribly interested in because there are next to no players even engaging at this point. I'm sure there's more but I've spent too much time already. I don't mean to be harsh or overly critical; Or err. Rather maybe I do. I spent my money on this hoping for it to be what it said it was. And it wasn't. It's not surprising, but it is disappointing. Welcome to corporate earth (Lets be honest it's not just the US anymore) where anyone will say anything to get you to spend your money on their (Insert product, service, etc. here) but not provide it to you as advertised then by legality refuse to refund you per proprietary terms that you agreed to upon purchase of said thing. No accountability. No responsibility. No trust. Thank you for coming to my Lost Talk.
Never got around to it, but closing up old games that never made it. This had some great ideas, poorly executed. You could lose yourself for hours in the the ship design and make fantastic looking ships, but then have the entire thing shake apart....finding out you need literally just to spam bolts in non nonsensical ways. Thrust was another issue, just horrible stability and controls, perhaps making things too sensitive that even working ships getting a minor bit of damage become uncontrollable. Its a game and I appreciate the level of detail, but if in the end you are punished in seconds for hours of work then perhaps they forgot about the game aspect? Game is essentially abandonware now, so no point anyone picking this up. Perhaps someone will build on the idea later.
Out of all the games i wish became good (Stable/bugfree with a good population of players) this one is defo in the top bracket for me. What a tragic waste of what could have been something incredible.
