Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

I picked this up to whet my appetite before the inevitable SO3 re-release. I tried this on PS1 back in the day, wasn't impressed with the combat back then but hey, maybe my tastes evolved right? Now that I'm older I can definitely appreciate the myriad systems and how this game served as inspiration for PS2 rpgs. But the gameplay does not hold up. The criticism that the game is a button masher only holds if you're playing on a low difficulty. If you're playing on Galaxy and you think the game is a button masher, you're undergoing self-imposed punishment. That said, the combat faces different problems at higher difficulties. One particularly bad example I think exhibits most of the flaws. I have a character set to healing, so she hides in corners of the battlefield and is very rarely targeted (already bad design). One combat she was chased by a mobile enemy, but her mobility skill kicked in so the enemy chased her without catching her. Unfortunately, said enemy also doesn't stagger and moved fast enough to avoid most basic attacks. You also can not preposition to my knowledge, leading to a bizarre cat and mouse chase that lasted several minutes. There's just so little interactivity in this combat. Players don't have a lot of agency and there aren't a lot of challenges to overcome other than having the biggest numbers and the most combat items to abuse. The dodge system suffers multiple problems, and there's nothing else to interact with. I'm leaving a positive review because I had fun with the game, but by the time you get to Nede all these problems compound for some impressively unfun gameplay. I couldn't push through until the end, let alone the post-game where Star Ocean games normally shine.

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 1: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.78/day in the week to Aug 4 → 1.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

hidden gem really good game
Amazing remaster, weak base game. I loved the premise of a space cadet getting stranded on a fantasy planet, loved the starting characters and their interactions. It is a pity that the story falls off fast. Claude and Rena are cute, Ashton's design is amazing. Environments, pixel arts, and character portraits are gorgeous. Sadly, that's all there is to it. Still, the game left a positive impression on me, so I'm giving it a thumbs up. There is a demo, so go try it first.
Very creative. I had alot of fun playing this, and the vibes are good
My memory lied to me - I remembered this game being fantastic, but the combat is total garbage. You either abuse non-combat systems and gear to get so overpowered that combat doesn't matter, or you revive spam. Either way you're just mashing one button. The "perfect counter" thing is cool in theory - if you aren't getting mobbed by many enemies at the same time that obviously don't synchronize their attacks. The AI party members are also dumb as hell - "Fight with good balance" says "try to conserve MP" but they'll spam down to 0 immediately. As a remaster, it looks beautiful and the quality of life features are great, but this is not fun for anyone who doesn't have nostalgia glasses on.
If you want to begin the Star Ocean Series i recommend you start here. it packs a enjoyment quality of life and every characters are worth to know their story. my only complaint is that it has a fewer post game content, and small depth of antagonist. this is also good for 100% achievement.
I'm very conflicted with this game. I like almost all of the JRPG games i've ever played but this one was incredibly frustrating at the start learning the combat. Half of the time when I'm controlling a character, the other ones die very quick so the first 10 hours consisted of me just healing and "autoattack"ing. Wasn't the best at the start, but started getting better when i could just faceroll THAT part of the combat. It's different and interesting, but ultimately not my cup of tea. Still recommend because it's obvious it's a lot of peoples style.
I bought the original from Walmart in 2001 for 20 bucks, and it quickly became my very first hyperfixation. I had a game save I played so much it maxed out the timer as I had spend an inordinate amount of time messing around instead of finishing the game story. Thousands of hours spent on this game in the 2000s, time to see if I can actually finish it finally... I approve of the upgrades, but at the same time, keeping the original character pixel art when everything else has been significantly upgraded is a huge visual clash and hurts my little audhd brain. Can't wait to find out if the one character voiceover I cringed at has been also upgraded to a much less annoying one.
Beautiful RPG, huge amount of content, love the characters. The amount of love put into this product by the developers is incredibly apparent.
