There are a lot of indie platformers on Steam and some of them fall short, but not this one. The graphics are charming and the movement/controls are smooth. It can be very difficult at times. In fact there are levels I must have replayed a hundred times to finally get through it, but I enjoyed every minute of it. The boss battles are unique and entertaining too, though I still have not beaten the game. But I will!
(eng)/(rus) Squirrel suicide simulator - you'll get in thousand inextricable situations where killing your coloured block of a character will be the only way to get back to checkpoints. That's in the easy mode which could be seen as a mere tutorial to memorize levels by heart before the real thing - the hard mode where you get no checkpoints, instead you get timer to beat. The game is technically competent but has some sadistic features that are devilishly exploited in the game's design: momentary gap between landing and the ability to jump again; character's linear inertia and sliding add great challenge to platforming and runup technique to get over certain obstacles. No walljump makes it quite different from 'Super Meat Boy'. The thing is well playtested, there are no noticable bugs, so it's a definite choice for the hardcore fans of runner/arcade genre, but not for the general public, its artificial world got me exhausted in 15 minutes. Also the art seems so bland to my taste.

Before I played this, I had a small penis, no girlfriend and no will to live. None of these things have changed, but the game is pretty good. ⡇⣉⡙⠻⠁⠄⠉⠻⢿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣏⣼⣿⣿ ⣿⠌⠻⢿⣷⣦⣤⣀⡀⠄⠉⠙⠛⠛⠿⠿⠿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣸⣿⣿⣿ ⠋⠄⢰⡆⠉⠛⠿⣿⣿⣷⣶⣤⣄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠈⠉⠉⠙⠛⠛⠛⠋⣭⡛⣿⣿ ⠃⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⣉⣙⡿⢿⣿⣿⣷⣶⣤⣀⡀⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⣀⣉⡙⢶⢹ ⠄⠄⠄⠄⠄⣀⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣤⣭⣝⣛⠛⠿⠿⠿⠷⢶⣦⡤⢤⠘⣿⠄⡾ ⠄⠄⡔⢲⣤⣴⡆⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣦⣬⠍⠄⠄⢰⣾⣷⡆⠄⠄⣄⣤⣾⣧⡞⣱ ⠄⠘⣾⣟⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣷⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣀⣸⣿⣍⡿⠿⠿⠇ ⠄⠄⢻⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⢿⡿⣿⣯⢻⣿⡇⠄⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⢸⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⡟⢱⣿⡏⣿⣿⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⠄⠄⠄⠄⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣉⣉⣉⡉⠉⠁⢿⣿⣿⣿⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⣿⣿⣶⣶⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⣿⠿⢿⣿⣿⡁⣛⣿⣁⠄⠄⠄⢸⣿⣿⡟⠄⠄⠄⠄ ⣿⣿⣿⣿⠻⣿⣿⣿⠻⣿⣿⣶⣬⡙⠛⠛⠿⠟⠻⠿⠇⢀⣿⣿⣿⡇⠄⠄⠄⠄
I just got this cos i wanted the dead squirrel achievement to use on my achievement showcase on my profile, but i went with the acorn one in the end, i think it looks better, although i might change it back to the press play one, not sure yet. I like platformers that involve Sonic or Mario, this one feels like every surface you're on is ice with how slippery the controls feel. Half or more than half the time the squirrel doesn't jump when your press it. i hate these kinda games where it's just random chance wether he jumps or not, no skill involved. I made it to level 1-5 before i had enough, i think most people won't even make it that far, You might enjoy it if you are a masochist but i can't recommend it to most people.
After playing this game for more than 100 hours I had the chance to go deep enough into the complex story that this game provides. Just being in game for only a small period of time I could already see how this game is obviously a big, if not the biggest inspiration for classic games such as "Army of Squirrels" or "Squirrel Sphere" for example. But after getting a bit more into the story you can't but help to feel like you are actually in another world. The I only thing I could try to compare the story to, is the emotions of the movie "The Nut Job" and the depth of "Over the Hedge" and this is probably still not even close. I see many people taking the game for a joke or complaining about how 2$ is way too much for a game like this and honestly I am happy that they are complaining instead of playing this piece of art, for they would not appreciate it. If you are not willing to be taken on a journey through a world the developer of this game put so much heart and mind into that it feels real, you can't devour every piece of this Masterpiece there is. So to sum this review up: Everyone who is interested in rodents, squirrel biology or simply a game where you can feel the love of the developer, this is the game for you... Edit: I felt it necessary to add that this game was clearly the largest inspiration for the latest and almost greatest squirrel based game "Squirrel with a Gun", which is second to only Squirreltopia.
Squirreltopia is a very obscure 2D platformer that somehow found its way into my Steam library. Being a huge fan of 2D platformers, I was pretty excited to play it, but it quickly became evident that this game is... pure evil. Many of the jumps and obstacles require extremely tight timing and precise positioning, made harder by the fact the physics are very peculiar, unlike any other game I have come across; the player accelerates slowly, but stops very quickly, which feels very unnatural at first and makes it quite hard to control. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bosses are not much fun. There is a huge random element, which often results in deaths that feel completely unfair. One major annoyance is that, as far as I can tell, there is no way to fast-travel between worlds, which means that every time you start the game you might have to walk, jump and balloon your way through 4 homeworlds to get to the one you want. This sounds minor, but it is enough of a deterrent to put me off playing the game, especially if I only have a small window of time available. It is possible to play specific levels directly from the menu, but only levels that you have already completed. There are some minor annoyances, too; there is no obvious way to pause the game, and pressing Esc mid-level quits without warning, which resulted in me losing progress on more than one occasion. On the plus side - the graphics are cute, the difficult makes beating a level feel like a huge accomplishment, and the soundtrack is excellent. In fact, I think the soundtrack kept me somewhat sane; had it not been for that, I probably would have given up a long time ago. As it happens, the game DID hold my interest for quite some time... I guess I like a challenge. Overall, this game has potential but it's just way too hard for me to recommend it lightly. I honestly can't imagine how anyone could beat the game on Hard mode, or unlock ANY of the time trophies, let alone all 50 of them.
Frustrating, every death feels cheap because you either couldn't do what you wanted to or got caught in some kind of trap
I play this game when im depressed :L
Squirreltopia to bardzo dobra platformówka o wysokim poziomie trudności, pozatym w grze spotkamy bossów. Moja ocena tej gry to 9.5/10
