Squidlit

While the graphics and the animations are really nice, the gameplay just isn't that fun. Also, the game never gave any good challenge and didn't motivate to replay. While I really liked the fight against the book, I can't recommend this game for a single boss fight.

bought this when it was on sale and dear god it is an actual gameboy game (in the sense that i cant even get past the final boss)

A friend gifted me this game, and I knew I was gonna like it, but I had no idea how much! Squidlit is super cute, it has smooth controls, and the boss fights are pretty awesome. Although I was born in the 90s, I didn't get to experience many titles of the era, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I thought the bosses were very creative and fun. I'm grateful I got to enjoy it, but very sad (and slightly disappointed) that getting the 100% on achievements is so memory-heavy.

The retro-revival scene is one of my favourite aspects of modern indie gaming, and in particular I adore when developers decide to dip into the nostalgia old farts like I have for the Game Boy. Squidlit's wonderful black-and-green display feels like it's right out of my childhood, and the simple story in which a squid (obviously) sets out to save their hometown is equally old-fashioned in all the good ways. Gameplay is pure platformer joy, just running and jumping and occasionally trying to bop something on the bonce, and it's all over and done with decidedly quickly. Nevertheless, if you want a taste of Game Boy goofiness without the hassle of pulling out that giant grey brick (not to mention finding enough batteries to bring it back to life) then Squidlit has you covered.

Breve platform stile Game Boy (con i colori del Game Boy) in cui siamo un calamaretto che parte per un’avventura e come unico attacco può sparare dell’inchiostro verso il basso. Ci sono diversi NPC con cui parlare (o abbracciare) nei villaggi, 3-4 livelli e altrettanti boss. Una run non dura più di 20-30 minuti prendendosela comoda, e la rigiocabilità è data più che altro dagli obiettivi tipo “finisci senza farti mai colpire”, fai questo, non fare quello, e alcune speedrun che culminano con “finisci in meno di 10 minuti” – non facilissimo, servono parecchi tentativi e un po’ di fortuna. Un gioco carino, semplice, con una musica orecchiabile e dialoghi simpatici (solo in inglese, ma non vi perdete chissà che) che vale i pochi centesimi che costa durante i saldi.

Fun little game :) Very short, but then it is very cheap. Nice for a little retro-themed nostalgia.

More games need an option to hug the final boss (for an achievement).

Squidlit is a good game with good music! Really encapsulates the original gameboy style and uses the limited buttons in a greaat way! 9/10
