About
Welcome to SPEAR—because fixing the game you’re playing wasn’t exactly on your bucket list, was it?
Imagine your heroic protagonist just got wiped out by a "fatal error". Yeah, typical Monday stuff. And now, some random background NPC named Default, who's literally just armed with a glorified stick, has to save the entire digital world. No pressure then, right? Dive into this glitch-ridden, action-packed platformer, full of quirky mechanics, broken quests, and secrets that should probably stay buried in corrupted code. Remember, heroes are overrated anyway.
There are potions you're definitely not supposed to drink. So obviously, you'll chug them right away, and items that'll turn you into... something. Maybe you'll fly, maybe you'll explode, maybe you'll just regret everything immediately. Welcome to inventory roulette!
Sure, spears are traditionally for poking holes in things. But this isn't any old spear, it's an overachiever. Use it to impale annoying bugs, call it back with your mind, slow down time, get across impossible gaps, and even transform it into a platform. It's the Swiss Army knife of sticks.
The player's dead, and the NPCs have absolutely nothing better to do than moan about their broken quests. Guess whose job it is to fix that mess? Hint: it's yours. Time to play therapist for a bunch of depressed NPCs who didn't even bother to learn your name.
Explore an increasingly bizarre world, unlocking new levels, hidden secrets, and delightful surprises behind every corrupted pixel. It’s thrilling, like stepping on digital Lego and shouting profanity.
The game's so gloriously broken that the difficulty spikes whenever it feels like it. Just when you think you’re safe, bugs mutate into explosive, rage-filled nightmares. And here's the kicker: the stronger you get, the angrier the bugs become. Going back to earlier levels? Oh, you'll wish you hadn't. It’s a beautiful cycle of violence and regret.

S.P.E.A.R. is quite a challenging platform puzzle game in places, and you will need quick reflexes and a lot of trial and error to succeed. The save points are reasonably generous though and are placed well enough to encourage perseverance which makes the game quite addictive. The spear mechanics are fun to use, with an aimed throw and a fast flat throw needed in certain situations. When using the aimed throw, time slows down as to give you a better aim, and then once you launch, time restarts. Game play can be unbelievable quick sometimes, especially with the slow down and then subsequent speed up, and you are often given hardly any time to react to multiple events. For example, throwing a spear into a portal will teleport you somewhere, then you need to react quickly to throw a spear at a button, or maybe another portal. Lots of these events are tied together, with the addition of enemies and environmental hazards coming into play and It all happens so fast that a little bit of trial and error is essential in the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3484032362 The spear mechanic is used to solve puzzles too, like using your spear as a stepping stone up to higher ground, or throwing it at buttons that open bridges or start lifts. There are some clever uses of the spear to solve these puzzles. There are also NPCs around who require assistance, which usually involves you finding objects from other levels and bringing them back to them. There are some difficult achievements associated with these tasks and I only managed to get three out of ten on my first play through so they will need some thought and gives the game some replayability. Retrieving the objects requires that you open a treasure chest and these can be very difficult to do. Chests will usually only appear if you can hit five scrolls in a row, and the placement of the scroll changes after each hit, so you need to chase the scrolls around and either hit them with your spear or jump into them. Of course, the game is designed to make this challenging and it took me multiple attempts to get some of these chests because you have to be very quick to hit the scroll before it disappears, and if it does disappear then you have to start the process again. There are some hidden chests around and I noticed them from time to time but I had no idea how to get to them. They weren't even accessible, so there is a trick there I am missing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3483487841 I mostly enjoyed the game. I found it challenging but not too difficult that it deterred me from continuing. The control of the character felt tight and the spear mechanics felt rewarding to use. Saying that, I did get stuck in the game for a long time because a NPC asked me for an object to continue but after a gap from the game I forgot what she asked for and she wouldn't repeat what she needed. In fact, I had forgotten she wanted an object at all and it meant I could not continue with the game. I think in this situation the NPC could have repeated what they needed. The map level is a bit frustrating to use I thought. You turn into a blob and bounce around areas looking for levels to enter. The blob is quite difficult to control though and often doesn't behave as you would expect and because some of these levels require a bit of platforming to get to, it is often the case that you will fall down and have to keep repeating the steps which is very annoying. There's a bit of a story running through the game which started off quite interesting but tapered off unfortunately so don't expect too much, and you can have brief conversations with certain characters in the game but dialogue are very brief although sometimes quite amusing.
🍳Conclusion🍳

SPEAR is a fun puzzle platformer but it is quite frantic and has a lot of action sequences and fast paced game play, so it won’t suit people who like to take their time. Be prepared to multitask and react quickly to events, although the generous save points do mean that you can keep trying until you get it right without it feeling too frustrating. The game feels quite polished with some nice environments and well thought out puzzles and mechanics. I would definitely recommend it to those who like action puzzle platforming games. I approached this game out of curiosity, the trailer catched my eye, with his colorful atmosphere, good music and funny style. I always loved 2d platformer, and that's exactly what I found here. I played the first two levels to give it a try and ended up playing the whole thing! The gameplay is what to be expected from a platformer, with a twist: The spear, of course. Our character will have a spear in his hand, wich can be used to hit switches, solve puzzles, grab distant objects or simply kill far enemies. It can became a temporary platform too! Gameplay is never boring, every level adds some new mechanic to keep it fresh and simulating. Level design is solid and the difficulty rumps up in a smooth way. You're gonna die sometimes but It will never be frustrating or unfair. The story is pretty original, with that meta-narrative touch that I love. Oh, and is full of secrets too, so when you'll end the levels, it will be very far from over. I'm currently trying to unlock all of them, and I'm having the time of my life! STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!
One of the most innovative 2D Platformer game of 2025. I love these hidden gems. Thanks to indie dev Andrea Cavuoto and publisher Polyhedric Studio this became my 3rd Indie gem of this year. They sent me a copy of this game to my Steam Curator - Indie Platformer (Linked Below) and I am so happy that they did. Without them I would not have known about its existence so thank you guys I appreciate it. I saw a bit of trailer when they sent me the game and I was like why was I never aware of this game this is truly a gem in this indie industry. The funny dialogues the startup man this made my day XD I have played like 4 levels and it was an awesome experience and I loved the innovative and fun they made it. I leave the rest to you guys while trying to avoid more spoilers so check this game out and feel free to buy and try it out or wishlist it. Easy to play but hard to master! Nice platformer with clear inspirations, but with room for authentic flavour too. The gameplay is engaging. The story is simple yet clever, the funny and easy-going writing makes for a chill vibe. Music is a banger too! There's opportunity for polish here and there BUT keep in mind this is a solo dev project! All in all a very enjoyable experience for all sidescrolling platformer fans!
Just finished it. It was a hell of a ride. I did almost every Bonus Level, then found the secret ones. Man, those are brutal. But I’m gonna beat them too. The art and animation are awesome, but what really stood out were the controls. Jumping and spinning around just feels so good. At first, it seems like a simple game, but then you realize there’s way more depth. You can chain jump, double jump, recoil push, glide, wall jump, teleport... it’s super satisfying. I kinda wish there was a dash, though. The levels are fun, there’s a lot to explore, and the whole idea of fixing a game from the NPCs’ perspective is just brilliant. When you hit the second level and realize those cute NPCs are throwing a party for their own death? It’s subtle, sad, and dark in the best way. I loved that moment. The story gave me Toy Story vibes, but with video games. My only gripe is that you can customize everything except the spear. I get it’s for the story, but still. The magic academy level with all the portals was gorgeous. Also, the music and sound effects? So good. Honestly, I love this hidden gem. Don’t be fooled by the silly characters, this game’s got some real depth and complexity.
Original and yet classic platformer with indie vibes. I really enjoy the crazy recoil jumps, resulting in a simple but yet challenging game. Nice!
Ok, giocato i primi 4 livelli. Mi sa un po' di Ori and the bind Forest come gameplay
I'm more than 40 years old. I've been playing video games since I was 8. I've completed some of the hardest titles ever made, making all the modern soulslike look like a refreshing walk in the park compared to them. This game has IT. that difficulty that makes you want to punch a hole through your monitor and ask for a refund, but at the same time doesn't let you take your hands off the pad until you've passed that section that you initially thought was impossible, because the graphics are so dreamy, the gameplay is so addictive and the controls are so satisfying; and when you manage to finish that level and find all the secrets inside it, oh my god, it's like the cigarette after sex. Even the story, while minimal, is smart and witty, and the underlying concept is brilliant and inspired. Each level is different and has its own peculiarities, and requires the wise usage of all the skills that you'll gradually unlock as you progress through the game, and which you will need to continue your journey to rid the game of all the bugs (Did I already mention this is a brilliant concept?). I finished it by unlocking all the achievements and finding all the secrets (and some of them are NASTY! - in a good way, of course), It was an amazing trip from start to finish. 10/10 best platform indie game i ever played. P.S. if you are italian, keep a saints' calendar nearby. You will thank me later.
This story is totally original and breaks the fourth wall, kind of like Inscryption (absolute masterpiece). There are things I’ve never seen in a platformer before, like snagging coins mid-air or sprinting on all fours. And on top of that, it’s got everything you’d expect from a platfomer, with really rad colors and themes for each level, so awesome! The menu graphics aren’t really my thing, but hey, it’s just a one-person project, so I can roll with it. The final boss drove me nuts trying to beat it, but then I found out there are even tougher secret levels beyond the boss (that one with the countdown is sheer genius!!) What an amazing adventure. I couldn’t put the controller down! And seriously, it’s way too cheap for how much content there is!
