About
SpaceSlog is a challenging and unique spaceship and colony simulator that focuses on shipbuilding, crew interaction, exploration and survival. Inspired by games such as Rimworld, Starship Theory, Dwarf Fortress and X-COM, as well as iconic media such as Firefly, Stargate Universe and The Expanse.
Your colony ship is destroyed, and with it humanity's final hope is lost to the dark, cold void. But somewhere, deep within the slog, drifts a barely functioning life pod. Alone, hungry, and lost in space, you command a motley crew of ragged survivors and must guide them through a time that has come to be known as the SpaceSlog era.
Explore. Trade. Battle. Survive. Thrive!
Build your ship any way you choose.
A new generated galaxy every time you play.
Meet other factions, friend or foe.
Manage your crews moods and needs.
Trade with passing ships and factions.
Electrical power simulation. Build cables, generators and batteries, or even solar panels to harvest energy from stars.
Atmospheric simulation. Place down gas generators, gas scrubbers, air tanks, ducting and air vents to carry gas around your ship. Wear the correct equipment when venturing outside of your ship.
Temperature simulation. Place down heat extractors and find other ways to keep your ship cool, especially when close to stars.
Lighting simulations. Ensure your crew have enough light. Stars will give off light in the darkness of space.
Develop your own story every time you play.
Combat and defence against alien creatures.
Deep health and anatomy modelling.
Breeding and farming. Collect eggs from hens or harvest plants from growing stations.
Extensive data driven Mod support.
Plus more…
This is a rough list of planned features though nothing is guaranteed and more may be added.
Ship to ship combat including ship boarding.
A huge galaxy to explore.
Visit planets with different atmospheres, factions and other anomalies.
Explore derelict ships and stations.
Research.
A living universe where faction interactions or player consequences matter.
Various types of crafting.
Animals - pets and husbandry.
A full immersive economic system.
Plus many other improvements across the board.
Whether you want to build a small but nimble ship with a small crew, or a large battleship with lots of crew, the choice is yours. Just ensure you have enough supplies to manage your crew and keep your ship functioning.
Careful consideration must be used when placing doors, power or atmospheric systems in case of breaches or other hazards.
Each time you play, the game's incident system will generate a different galaxy for you to explore. Whichever difficulty you choose will influence how this galaxy or incidents are generated.
Stay in one place for too long or get stranded and your crew will surely die. You must keep moving and find other ships or factions to trade with in order to survive.
The needs of your crew must be met in order to keep your ship fully functioning. An angry crew may rebel, decide not to work or give up completely. Ensure you have enough food and water to feed your crew. You must also choose your captain wisely.
Gear up and fight different species of aliens in melee or ranged combat. Cut off their limbs and allow them to bleed out so you can harvest their meat for food and skin for furniture. Build a medbay to heal your own sick and injured crew.
All the game's data is stored in JSON files. This means it is extremely easy to change anything currently in the game and even add new ones. In the future we plan to expand on this even further.
The author of SpaceSlog has spent over 10 years painstakingly developing a large and popular free modification for Mount&Blade Warband called A World of Ice and Fire. This is the reason for wanting extensive mod support and should hopefully give peace of mind for anyone wanting to purchase SpaceSlog, knowing the author is dedicated and willing to finish a project.

A great little colony sim, very reminiscent of Starship Theory but deeper and grittier. Whilst it shares the same 2D top-down style as RimWorld (who borrowed it from Prison Architect), it's not RimWorld and has a deeper simulation of air pressure, and space flight - things RimWorld can't pretend to do even with the Odyssey DLC. This is the advantage of a dedicated space sim over a mod. If you're coming from RimWorld, have a little patience to learn how to do things over again, then you'll start to really appreciate what it has to offer. If you love a survival challenge - this is for you! For an Early Access game it's remarkably complete. The solo developer has been working hard on it for 5 years, and there're more features on the roadmap. It'll be interesting to see how it develops throughout Early Access. A great addition to the colony sim lineage. The world needs more! :)
Has potential, but the content just isn't here yet to justify the $22+ price tag. It is a very early alpha. Having it on Steam right now is more about helping the dev out with developing the game much more so than it is having an enjoyable playing experience. That's fine as long as the consumer knows what they are getting into. There's no researching, so you don't get new tech or things to build. There's no moving of placed items (you have to deconstruct and reconstruct). There's a limited amount of things you can actually make. The tutorial is incomplete. This game DOES have the potential to be something special, but it is just too early in its development for the asking price IMO. It needs to cook a lot more.
This game is Early Access, but it has a LOT of potential to reach the popularity of the giants in the genre. This is Rimworld in space and the inspiration it takes from that and other popular IP's is very evident. Just be aware Spaceslog is still in it's infancy. Looking forward to it's ongoing development.
Edit: After a couple not so successful runs - I would start with "Resourcefulness" for now. I think the start is pretty challenging, and you want to give yourself every opportunity for success. While not required, engineering 6 also lets you deal with basic needs. Heat is an issue near stars, so make sure you have vents. Overall, definitely Rimworld in space, I would echo in another six months there should be enough content to really flesh out your ship (though it looks like the workshop already has items, which is crazy.) Short version: Rimworld in space. This has the bones already. If you haven't played Rimworld, the tutorial is pretty short right now, so some advanced mechanics may be more challenging to figure out! Long version: This game is certainly inspired by Rimworld and, to its credit, does a good job of creating systems and mechanics that feel intuitive, much like Rimworld. Right now, a lot of the core mechanics are there, but without a more significant initial tutorial system through flight, some may struggle to get into the rhythm. I would guess this will be huge in six months, it scratches a very similar itch to Rimworld.
A really good game. I enjoy it a lot, and I definitely recommend it to many people.
Very promising colony sim
Pretty fun so far and has the bones to be a worthy successor to Starship Theory.
This game has potential and the author is very responsive and open to hearing what you have to say and take suggestions. As of right now, there is'nt to much in the game, and is insanly slow paced but still enjoyable. I've come over some weird issues here and there, but that's to be expected in a early access game. I think this in the end will become a very playable game and replayable.
Pretty challenging but fun colony sim. I really enjoy the ship building system. You could say the game is a bit rough around the edges, but it's enjoyable regardless. Cool to see native Linux support.
