Caution abandonware
This game is one of the reasons I will never buy an early access game ever again. I don't care about roadmaps. I don't care how active is the game's development at the moment. This game had a kickstarter that raised more than three times the goal. Got a publisher. Released in early access. And still got abandoned. Perpetual early access games are a problem on their own. But this game is a miracle of mismanagement. This is not a tiny game on itch io which is worked on by one guy on his off-time. This is a paid game with a budget and a publisher. The art is genuinely gorgeous. And the gameplay isn't bad. But the last patch note literally said, and I quote, "here's a new patch that really fills out the core gameplay and sets the stages for end-game goals (aimed for next patch)". The end-game in question being nowhere in sight. And then we get nothing for more than a year. And when i say NOTHING I mean it. Not even a "hey, we are alive" from the devs. This game has a website, a youtube channel and a discord. And out of pure pettiness i went and checked. The website and youtube were abandoned in 2023 with the last devblog showcasing patch 0.2.18. And on their dead discord latest patchnote posted was for verison 0.3 in 2024. The most recent official communication was on steam with version 0.4. and it was more than a year ago. at this point steam needs a "don't show abandonware" filter. I wouldn't count on this game ever coming back
Unfortunatly the game appears to be abandoned. Do not buy unless the dev starts developing again. If not, the dev should really consider open sourcing the game.
Unfortunately abandoned
Abandoned unfinished development. DO NOT BUY. Go buy Space Haven instead, an perfect example of an EA release to 1.0+
I get that getting a divorce is really tough, however not even bothering to make an announcement for well over a year that goes somewhat like this: "Hey I am still having a rough time and I need a break, peace." is unacceptable, what a disappointment
Abandonware that should be removed from the store
Last straw, no more Chucklefish games from here on. Don't buy hasn't updated in a year with no word on progress.
I'm an original Kickstarter backer, and have been following the project over the years. Starmancer has beautiful graphics and an incredibly dialed-in visual style, the core gameplay loop is interesting. It's been the closest game to Rimworld in Space for me (until their Odyssey DLC released), but even so Starmancer is something special and I look forward to further developments.. I really really want this game to succeed, but it's been over a year since the last update, and until we get ANY form of communication from the developers I can't in good conscience recommend the game. I understand the primary developer was in the midst of a rough patch, but that doesn't excuse complete radio silence.
I enjoyed playing Starmancer because I love the elements in this game. It has (or it HAD) potential but it looks like they abandoned the game. Devs are even quiet in the discord community server. Radio silence. Almost 5 years in early access but still in v0.4.0 and the last update was almost a year ago. Doesn't matter if there's 1, 2, or just a hand full of devs. People paid early for an early access to support the devs. I know a couple of solo-dev games that are constantly getting updates and keeps the community posted on what's going on.
Last big Update in June 2024... after that only a small one in March 2025... don´t know seems kinda abandoned to me
