The game is very buggy. That is pretty much it. The idea might be good, to clone FTL with some new stuff, but the game just doesn't really work. Bugs, freezes almost every game. Some abilities (barrier) will eventually lock your rooms without chance to properly play or fix it. These issues were never fixed, because the game is abandoned. Do not waste time or money on this.
This game had the potential to being as good as the gem Faster Than Light( or FTL). But hours in run into game breaking bugs like using some ship abilities cause you to be locked out of compartments on your spaceship and the only fix was to start a new game...(even though replaying after death is a part of this game). Or graphic bugs that literally corrupt your play though...causing you to have to start a new game.... Its a shame too because these developers should have fixed all these game breaking bugs and their rating would have been or should have been much higher than "mixed" at the time writing this review. (sigh) Im going to keep at it but people on fence thinking about purchasing this should look elsewhere like FTL, Halcyon 6 or even Space Trader's who devs. continue to improve their game, rather than creating a workshop for gaming community to fix game.... Too bad...
Full of bugs, I never saw a game that buggy
Overall a promising game plagued with game and save breaking bugs that are unlikely to be fixed.
no.. just no
I'm unable to play.... initial zones are only 6 and ...that's it ....
Space Rogue is one of those games that tries to improve on an existing formula with its own spin, and for the most part, suceeds. From the screenshots, Space Rogue was heavily inspired by FTL, where you need to perform some crew management by moving the crew from one ship system to another, and perhaps, repel boarders, while combating enemy ships. This time, the ship is presented in a slanted 3D way that's not quite isometric, but it does show every section of the ship. You start with 4 crew: captain/nav, 2 engineers, and 1 marine/warrior. As you travel you may get a chance to acquire more crew through encounters, or hire more at a starbase/depot. The crew have set specialties and can acquire experience and level up to be more effective such as gain special abilities. No need to aim, as the combat is done all for you based on the crew's stats and your tactical decisions, such as which enemy ship section/bay do you target and with what. Some weapons are shield piercing, some are not. Some are anti-crew, some are not. Knock down enemy shields and you can do damage to their hull, until they repair their shields. So you want weapons that cycle faster. While shields are down you can also send over your warriors to do damage to their crew and/or systems. If you have a good ship, you may be equipped with drones, and they could be offensive or defensive. The idea is simple: blow up the other ship, and/or disable their crew, and prevent yourself from blowing up or losing all crew. The ship dies when it loses all the hull points, or when it loses its captain. You may have more than one weapon each with different firing rates doing different types of damage. And programs can be loaded on the ship's main computer that would allow it to do more damage (better targeting), more evasion (take less damage), and so on. As you visit starbases and depots, you may be able to obtain better weapons. And as you take damage during battle, some systems can be knocked offline, and your engineers (and even non-engineers with some repair skills) can fix things. Each sector consists of various star systems, and if your engines are online, you can jump between the systems. Usually, you start on one end, and on the other end is a hyperspace gate leading to the next sector. Each system will be different, some may allow you to mine, others are dead, yet other may have ships or other terrain. And some ships will move around the sector, and they could be friendly, neutral, or hostile. There can even be space monsters that you have to destroy or flee from. Almost everything is upgradeable. Crew can gain experience and level up, giving them special abilities and more HP so they can do their jobs better. Ship's bays / systems can be upgraded so they perform better. Weapons can be upgraded at starbases. Bays however, need titanium to be upgraded, and that you can buy or mine yourself. Mining seems to be the most frustrating. For a fee paid to the locals, you get a mining probe. Hit 3 patches of "volatile matter" and your probe goes kaboom. And your probe is only good for 4 attempts, with which you may hit nothing, credits, or 1-2 units of the metal you're after. So you may end up getting nothing despite credits spent. Ship combat does damage hull and your crew can't fix that. Only a stop at a starbase can. And that cost credits. But combat also gets you experience and possible loot, so it balances out somewhat. Even at "easy", the game is not simple. All in all, the game is worth playing, if a bit frustrating, and as you keep playing you can unlock more ships to play with, which would require different tactics.
Easy to get into and pretty fun.
