About
Space Engineers is an open world sandbox game about designing, building and testing your own space machines. Construct ships, stations and planetary bases in a fully destructible environment, then explore planets and space, mine resources, survive hazards and engage in combat alone or with friends in Creative or Survival modes.
Play solo or in multiplayer, from small co-op outposts to huge community servers. Start with a simple lander, grow into a mining and industrial empire, or focus on warships and planetary fortresses – the game gives you the tools and physics, you decide what to build.
Space Engineers uses a volumetric physics engine: every block and voxel has mass, inertia and damage. Ships break apart, stations crumble and terrain can be drilled, carved and reshaped, so your engineering choices really matter.
Space Engineers is grounded in real engineering and hard science fiction, driven by realism and plausible near-future technology. Think modern space programs extrapolated into the future: realistic ships, stations, tools and systems where everything is built and simulated block by block. It’s about the machinery you build, not about magic or scripted set-pieces.

Does not have a new player friendly tutorial. The tutorial explains very little as to how to operate the controls and interfaces.
KEEEEN! Yes very cute DLC blocks, now fix the game! I have been playing this for few thousand hours now and I have tried everything: Attach hinge head to rotor, attach wheel to hinge, use merge blocks to create the most unholy creations ever and had so much fun doing so! However, Keen has in it's inifite wisdom decided to make the game mechanics "safer" (read: BOOORING!!!), by constanly denying certain ways of build one step at a time. Also latest addition is to make subgrids static without ability to convert them back to dynamic!!! MAN WTF!! You drunk or what?? GIVE ME BACK THE ABILITY TO DO INSANE CREATIONS! I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY OF CLANG THAT WILL OCCUR!! Game slogan should be: "Need to create.. but not like that.. or that. You can't do that either! Only the way we allow it!" and you have deliberately blocked attaching hinge head to rotor. why? why do you hate fun? I am happy to edit this review to positive once these few minor inconveniences are solved.
New player experience has gotten worse.
Do you like building spaceships? Do you like looking at those spaceships? then this is the game for you! Do you like flying spaceships? do you like engaging in dogfights and raiding enemy strongholds? You should probably look for another game. Space engineers sadly is another indie game made popular not because the developer made a good game, but because the community that surrounds it is amazing. The amount of mods for this game is great and they're the sole reason this game is bearable. For the age of space engineers, this game is still incredibly janktastic. Yet the developer has continued to release DLC after DLC and even has released a sequel. While I am not against a sequel, I am against the developer releasing a sequel without having finished and polished the original game. Space engineers is a masochists wet dream, and this is coming from a person who thoroughly enjoys games that have large amounts of tedious tasks such as Factorio and Stationeers. The difference between those games and Space Engineers is that the punishment comes when you have done something wrong, and not because the game engines are massively flawed. Space engineers suffers from an incredible lack of optimization, quality of life, and automation. A large portion of the quality of life and automation issues are solvable with modding. However, space engineers lack of optimization regularly leaves you with several hours of repairs to complete when inevitably your ship either lags and slams into a wall that you never hit, or when one of the movable mechanisms such as the pivots decides to detach itself at mach jesus and take out a quarter of the ship along the way. Long term gameplay and building up bases and stations in the end is quite painful. On top of these issues many quality of life things fail to exist in the game that should have been solved half a decade ago. Many armor transition blocks don't exist, the building menu and bars are poorly optimized, blocks such as half conveyors do not exist, many of the large grid objects are simply to large for the tasks they need to perform. There are ways around these things, however a large portion of them increase your chance of clang and destroying weeks of work. In conclusion, if you want to build spaceships to look at, you'll likely enjoy space engineers if you can put up with all the DLC content. If you want to actually use those spaceships, look elsewhere.
The game is great, but a lot of the blocks/features are locked behind a paywall which is annoying when you are trying to make complex builds
Half a game. Abandoned to make half a game v2.
Controller support is a complete joke. Has options for it, but its implementation is on par with something i'd expect from a middleschooler trying to learn to code.... Its non functional. Not going to waste my time trying to debug controller support, or figure out how to rebind all of the controls, reorganize UI elements etc JUST to play with a controller... Waste of money. Waste of time. 0/10 - Would rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty fork then spend anymore time trying to play this dumpster fire.
it has the worst UI in the half a century game history.
Put hours and hours into the game durring beta having so much fun. A year or two later buy it; play it and it doesn't feel the same. The community is different, game is less sandboxy and more focused on soft objectives, and it some how feels more empty. I think the community really made this game before and the silly small scenarios you can get into, but I don't think it's worth the price. Not only does it cost money, but also sells in game cosmetics. Along wit that, by releasing the beta for free I physically couldn't a refund within the 2 hours I played post purchase. My beta hours were combined with the current ones breaking it essentially; I've already told steam about everything and it doesn't change a singular thing. To be a sandbox game and hold my hand really tightly is annoying.
