Sovietpunk: Chapter One is a dystopian narrative adventure developed and published by Hot Chill that combines post-apocalyptic survival themes with cyberpunk influences and Soviet-inspired world design. Rather than presenting players with a futuristic world driven by flashy technology and corporate dominance alone, the game creates something harsher and more oppressive. It imagines a future shaped by nuclear destruction, social collapse, and decades of life spent beneath the surface of a ruined planet. The result is a bleak but fascinating setting where survival no longer represents victory but merely another difficult day endured. The game takes place in an alternate future where nuclear war devastated civilization and forced humanity underground. With the planet rendered temporarily uninhabitable, people retreated into massive underground settlements built to preserve what remained of society. Over time, survival evolved into something more complicated. New social divisions formed, resources became increasingly limited, and inequality slowly transformed underground life into a system built around class separation and struggle. The dream of rebuilding civilization remained alive, but daily existence became dominated by hardship rather than hope. Players experience this world through the perspective of an ordinary worker rather than a larger-than-life hero. This choice gives the story additional emotional impact because the protagonist exists near the lower levels of society rather than above them. The struggles of everyday survival become central to the experience. Food shortages, dangerous living conditions, social instability, and corruption influence both the setting and the personal challenges faced throughout the story. Instead of saving the world, players witness what it means to survive inside a world already broken beyond repair. One of the strongest aspects of Sovietpunk: Chapter One is its world-building. The underground civilization feels believable because it presents technological advancement alongside social decay rather than replacing hardship entirely. Scientific progress continued after civilization collapsed. Synthetic food production, cybernetic enhancement technologies, and experimental solutions helped humanity adapt to life underground. However, these advancements failed to eliminate inequality. Technology exists throughout society, but progress benefits some far more than others. The cyberpunk influences strengthen the setting considerably. While many cyberpunk stories focus heavily on neon cities and corporate control, Sovietpunk approaches the genre differently by combining futuristic technology with Soviet architectural influence and post-disaster desperation. The result feels distinct from more familiar cyberpunk settings. Underground districts feel worn down by years of survival pressure. Industrial environments create a constant sense of exhaustion and decline. The setting rarely feels hopeful, but that hopelessness becomes one of the game's defining strengths. Gameplay focuses primarily on exploration and narrative interaction. Sovietpunk operates closer to an interactive story experience than a traditional action title. Players move through environments, examine details, interact with objects, and slowly uncover information that expands understanding of the underground society. Progress depends less on mechanical mastery and more on absorbing atmosphere and paying attention to environmental storytelling. The slower pace allows the world itself to become the primary attraction. Visual presentation contributes heavily to immersion. Pixel art environments successfully capture the feeling of a deteriorating underground civilization struggling to maintain itself decades after global catastrophe. Dim corridors, aging technology, industrial spaces, and remnants of failed systems create a world that feels tired and worn down by history. The artistic direction balances cyberpunk influences with Soviet-inspired design choices effectively, helping Sovietpunk establish a recognizable visual identity. Atmosphere remains one of the game's greatest accomplishments. Music and environmental design work together to reinforce feelings of isolation and social decay. The underground world feels oppressive without becoming empty. Every location reflects years of survival under impossible circumstances. Small environmental details strengthen immersion while helping the setting feel lived-in rather than simply constructed for gameplay purposes. The slower pacing will naturally appeal more strongly to certain audiences. Players expecting frequent action sequences or complex gameplay systems may find the experience more limited than traditional adventure or role-playing games. Sovietpunk depends heavily on world-building and atmosphere rather than mechanical depth. Players willing to engage with narrative progression and environmental storytelling will likely gain significantly more from the experience. As the opening chapter of a larger vision, Sovietpunk succeeds at introducing a compelling world shaped by desperation, technological adaptation, and social instability. Hot Chill creates an atmosphere that feels oppressive without becoming repetitive while building a setting capable of supporting deeper exploration in future installments. Sovietpunk: Chapter One may not appeal equally to every player, but for those who appreciate dystopian science fiction, slower narrative adventures, and carefully constructed world-building, it delivers an experience filled with personality and atmosphere. Its vision of the future feels harsh, uncomfortable, and often deeply cynical, but those qualities also make it memorable. Rating: 7/10
Bon petit point'n'click, très simple mais jolie et agréable.
