[th]MY RATING:[/th] [th] ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ ✘ [/th] [th]0 / 10[/th]

The game is nothing more than an asset flip
But what is an asset flip and why is it so important or even bad?
An asset flip is a type of shovelware in which a video game developer purchases pre-made assets and uses them to create numerous permutations of generic games to sell at low prices. Such games tend to be viewed by gamers as uncreative, and as diverting attention from less popular high-quality titles. Asset flips have been noted to be a problem on many online distribution platforms, especially Steam. The Nintendo Switch eShop has also been accused of allowing the sale of asset flips.
Asset flipping is a term applied to the practice of buying or using basic, pre-made/pre-rendered assets in video game development, without changing them or adding original assets around them. Often used as a pejorative term, and generally consider games made using poorly considered, flipped assets to be shovelware. For example, say you're a beginner who wants to develop a game in Unity or a similar development engine. If you're a novice, you might buy some assets or a demo game from the Unity Asset Store to use as a foundation for building your first game. Assets like this can also help you have a pre-made world, so you can focus on other areas of expertise, like game physics or enemy AI. Using assets in this way is fine. In fact, using pre-made assets to make your game is also fine, as long as your game is actually playable. If you've ironed out any glitches, created some nice atmospheric effects, and your characters and NPCs work in harmony, then there's no reason you shouldn't market your game. However, just throwing a bunch of assets together that don't work, or simply renaming a demo intended as a foundation, in order to just make a game quickly and then market it with no thought, is when asset flipping becomes a nefarious practice. Basically, there is nothing wrong with using or buying a pre-built asset to use in games. The developer QuickSave/SA Industry has already released several of these asset flips. These include, for example, the following games:
- Falling words = 2D Typing Game developed by Steelkrill Studio - Kingdom Defense = Tower Defense Basic Pixel Art Pack developed by FreeThePlayerOnGame - Drive For Your Life = Zombie Drive - Full Game Template developed by Puppeteer
But apart from that, the game is nothing special. Quite the opposite. I find it more like a boring and monotonous "scavenger hunt," and the environment has absolutely nothing to offer. Visually, the whole thing isn't very impressive either. You have to spend quite some time looking for a place worth seeing, and you also have to do some serious editing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3365493657 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3362010715 Everything about and in the game is kept as simple and straightforward as possible. The game doesn't support resolutions beyond 1080p, and you can't customize the keys yourself, so you have to use the standard WASD system. These days, that's an absolute no-go for a game for me, no matter what the game is about. Furthermore, the game is riddled with bugs, and I've gotten stuck more than once. Yes, it can happen. It happened to me in DOOM: The Dark Ages, too. But here it happens often, and walking past a tree and then getting stuck is pretty embarrassing. Okay, the game doesn't cost much, but it's still not worth the few cents and since the game still has the status "Profile Features Limited" it doesn't count as a +1 game, nor are the achievements counted in the statistics. Of course, it's up to everyone whether you buy such games or not. However, it is and remains unethical because it is theft of intellectual property and is essentially nothing more than a cash grab, which also violates the license agreements and terms of use. In addition, it is simply harmful for the entire games industry and especially for all the indie game developers who often get lost in the mass of such asset flips, which is really a shame. To the developer: make games you care about. The first glaring issue is the fast development and release schedule from developer and publisher QuickSave. Take a look here at their releases and you'll have some kind of idea of what your getting. Despite this, I did have a little hope for what I was getting. The graphics looked nice—though they should for Unreal Engine. The sound of water, birds and minimalist soundtrack was relaxing. Then I started playing. The scavenger hunt and linear story progression was fine. I don't mind this type of game. Though the careless construction of the game world took any immersion away. It is careless to generate terrain and auto-populate it with some nature asset pack. Of course I'm only guessing that's how the developer made the valley but you can see from the pictures below that anything that had to be hand constructed was thoughtlessly thrown together. This is bad. https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/790863483538299985/A3208B085986D077941861B961C786121B1304F9/ Where are the birds that I'm hearing everywhere? https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/790863483538182990/644ADBD37511049A98244B337AED0225C9860E45/ Oh. Nevermind. If the valley was meticulously put together, I apologize and well done. It was beautiful. Too bad you got lazy with the rest of the game. Also, please fix the red cave. You can't walk ten feet without getting stuck. There are many games on Steam that you can get for 8.99 or less that are worth ten times more than this game. Don't buy. Not recommended.
Warning: Asset Flip! Soul Valley is a Digital Homicide style asset flip, or what Valve calls a "Fake Game". The "developer" paid for/pirated a few Unity asset store packs, dumped them all in a blender, and submitted it to Valve as if they're real game developers.
Two notable criteria for what makes an asset flip instead of legitimate use of stock assets are whether those assets comprise the majority of the game, and whether the "developer" properly credited the people who created most of the assets in the game. This game fails both of those tests, despite the game credits mentioning this is an asset flip made from Unreal Marketplace assets, the developer never credited the specific asset creators. That's not okay. Because the "developers" here didn't credit any of the artists and real, actual game developers who created the assets here, this is plagiarism, as well as cash grab shovelware. In this case, the asset flipper took a forest asset from the Unreal Marketplace and made a really crappy walking sim out of it. It has no value or merit as a real game. QuickSave/SA Industry have shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab, through this account or through closely linked/alt accounts. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:

"Falling Words" = 2D Typing Game developed by Steelkrill Studio
"Kingdom Defense" = Tower Defense Basic Pixel Art Pack developed by FreeThePlayerOnGame
"Drive For Your Life" = Zombie Drive - Full Game Template developed by Puppeteer
Taking this shovelware seriously as if it was a genuine attempt to make a game, it doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The developers didn't design the game for modern gaming PCs, as such the display resolution caps out at around 1440p, there's no support for the state-of-the-art 4K or higher resolutions. The game simply won't look right on modern gaming displays due to this failure on the part of the developers. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts. The developer didn't know how to properly use Unreal or the asset packs he stole, so the game is riddled with bugs and generally unplayable, not that it would be worth trying. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. It's also important to note the "developer" here has connections to a number of shady Russian asset flippers and review manipulators who show an organised pattern to scam and defraud gamers with fake reviews and asset flipping the work of others for profit. While reviews are about the games, gamers should be informed when developers act unethically. Whether these connections are the same developer using multiple accounts, or just working closely with other unethical developers, gamers should be warned about the harm to gamers by this developer and their associates. Buying games from unethical developers puts your money at risk.
Warning: Review Manipulation!
This game features a small number of fake positive reviews from accounts known to be in the business of review manipulation/paid reviews. They're all written in either Russian or broken English, appear at almost exactly the same time, very shortly after the game launched on Steam, all have a direct Steam purchase of the game, and the accounts are used consistently to write fake reviews for asset flips and other cash grabs/scams. The "Positive" review score on this game should be disregarded due to this blatant, unethical review manipulation. This is done to deceive and scam gamers into paying for a bad product. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Soul Valley has the almost comically optimistic (if it wasn't so sad) price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the unethical nature of the developer. For comparison, the $5 asking price for this game could get you games like "Civilization VI", "Ark: Survival Evolved" or "Dishonored". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
I died of hunger owing to the fact there is little to no food around but to be honest I was about to die of boredom anyway. Nothing to do but walk in any direction in the hope of finding wood or water or food and there is very little of any that I could find. Lots of nice trees to stare at and bird sounds to listen to but not much else. I like walking simulators as they can be quite relaxing but having to hunt around for vital food and water all the time completely ruins any fun element. Don't bother with this one. Deleted and filed under crap.
Hello there. As a fan of walking simulator/exploration games, i found Soul Valley quite enjoyable. It has nice graphics and a good designed map. Also the story comes together well in the end, it has mystery vibes on it and somewhat nice twist. Other than few negligible bugs can ~and probably will~ be fixed, i have no issue with the game. It is worth a playthrough.

Beautiful scenery. Puzzles are engaging but not very challenging.
