Mr. Kaiba is in serious danger! See? These randomly coloured bars indicate danger. Don't you get that? YGOTAS, LittleKuriboh

PROS: + strangely unique + engaging story + 50 cool puzzles + mystery vibes CONS: - hides as a logic puzzle game - VFX toggle needs to be off to see - story is locked behind gimmicks not everyone will like Comment: Right away - this is a mystery game hiding as a Steam puzzle game. So you have to expect elements of the mystery, for both the gameplay and story, to be outside the game. I had to start with that because I WISH I knew this coming into it. That absolutely changes the player's perspective. It's okay to collaborate with others and use search. The game itself can be divided into two sections: decryption puzzles and story. Puzzles are a weird twist on sudoku, there are fifty of them and they get progressively harder as new elements get introduced. Unfortunately with these elements there is also some guesswork added which detracts a bit (although is on par with how sudoku works). Story is cool and got me hooked almost until the end. It consists of some disturbing reading of a non-chronological chat conversations. You are unsure what goes on here and are left to draw your conclusions as your read it. The end disappointed me a bit but as mentioned, not from the lore perspective but just the way you get to it. Playable, but not ideal, on the Steam Deck because it is hard to copy stuff. I used a phone to take photos and type some things manually but you are better off to just run it on PC.
Also, because you have to start up the demo too after completing all the puzzles and watch the Steam store page to get the full picture.
Most clever Konstructors game. Minimalistic but tells an intriguing story. I was flip-flopping whether to recommend it or not. Especially because it feels unique in a sea of sequels and remasters. So I will say yes, IF the person buying is properly informed. ------------------------------------------------------------------ If you liked this review you can find more on the Curator page or in my Review Corner.
I really wish there was a "maybe" option for recommending this game. Basically, I played all the puzzles, and really liked them. So if you enjoy those types of logic puzzles, where you get a grid with some numbers and then you have to click on a bunch of squares depending on those numbers? Great, you'll have fun. I think the difficulty curve is pretty good too. But the reason I land on "maybe" is because I read a few of the logs and completely tapped out on the story because I just wanted to solve the puzzles. I really can't judge if it's any good or no. Keep your secrets Mariia, I'm just here to click on a bunch of squares.
I didn't have any expectations when I opened the game. I love puzzles, I love challenging my brain, and this game gave me SO MUCH of both! The simplicity of the graphics was actually just adding up to the experience. if you love puzzles, numbers and get huge feeling of accomplishment from solving things, this game is definitely for you! Played it twice, and will 100% play more!
Sorry, James is a narrative-driven puzzle game that transforms the act of decoding encrypted files into the heart of a gripping psychological thriller. Instead of focusing on combat or exploration, it invites players to step into the shoes of James Garner, a security engineer employed by Mantis Corp., a company known for developing advanced weaponry. His latest assignment appears routine at first: decrypt a collection of protected communications. However, those files gradually reveal an emotional exchange between two strangers, raising an unsettling question about why a powerful corporation would be interested in such personal conversations. This intriguing premise fuels the entire experience, encouraging players to uncover the truth hidden beneath layers of secrecy, deception, and corporate intrigue. The game's storytelling is one of its strongest qualities. Rather than relying on cinematic sequences or traditional dialogue, nearly every revelation comes through recovered messages that players unlock as they progress. This approach places the audience in an active investigative role, requiring careful attention to every conversation, subtle emotional cue, and hidden implication. The relationship between the mysterious correspondents becomes increasingly compelling as new information surfaces, while the larger conspiracy slowly emerges from what initially seems like an ordinary exchange. The narrative successfully balances personal drama with suspense, creating a mystery that remains engaging until its conclusion. Puzzle design serves as both the primary gameplay mechanic and the vehicle for storytelling. Inspired by logical games such as Sudoku and Minesweeper, the decryption system challenges players to identify patterns, eliminate incorrect possibilities, and think methodically. Early puzzles provide a comfortable introduction to the mechanics, but later stages demand greater concentration and strategic thinking. The increasing complexity feels rewarding because every solved puzzle grants access to another piece of the narrative, ensuring that gameplay and story remain tightly connected throughout the adventure. Players who enjoy deductive reasoning and intellectual challenges will likely appreciate the thoughtful progression of difficulty. Visually, Sorry, James embraces a minimalist retro aesthetic that perfectly complements its themes. The interface resembles an aging computer workstation, reinforcing the feeling of working as a corporate security analyst handling confidential information. Rather than relying on elaborate graphics, the game uses simple yet effective visual design to establish mood and immersion. The understated presentation keeps attention focused on the puzzles and narrative while enhancing the sense of isolation that defines much of the experience. Every decrypted file and every new message contribute to an atmosphere of growing unease. The audio design further strengthens the game's tension. Soft ambient music and subtle sound effects create an environment where every discovery carries weight. Instead of overwhelming players with dramatic orchestral pieces, the soundtrack remains restrained, allowing quiet moments to heighten suspense. This minimalist approach works exceptionally well alongside the text-driven narrative, making players feel as though they are uncovering classified information that was never intended to be seen. The mature dialogue, which includes occasional strong language and adult themes presented entirely through text, adds authenticity without becoming excessive. Another standout feature is the believable quality of the writing. The conversations are based on realistic communication patterns, making the characters feel genuine despite never appearing directly on screen. Their exchanges capture emotional vulnerability, misunderstandings, and evolving relationships in a convincing manner, making it easy to become invested in their story. Because the entire mystery depends on the player's emotional connection to these messages, the natural dialogue significantly enhances the impact of the narrative and gives the unfolding events greater emotional resonance. Despite its many strengths, the game may not appeal to everyone. Players looking for fast-paced gameplay, action sequences, or expansive exploration may find its deliberate pacing too slow. The heavy emphasis on reading and logical problem-solving requires patience, and some of the more advanced puzzles can become quite demanding. Those who are less interested in deciphering clues or analyzing lengthy conversations may struggle to remain engaged. Nevertheless, these design choices are intentional and ultimately help establish the game's unique identity. Sorry, James delivers a memorable blend of mystery, puzzle-solving, and psychological storytelling that stands apart from more conventional adventure games. Its clever decryption mechanics, engaging narrative, believable writing, and atmospheric presentation combine to create an experience that rewards curiosity and careful observation. Although its niche gameplay and text-heavy structure may not suit every player, those who appreciate intelligent puzzles and slow-burning mysteries will discover a rewarding adventure filled with intrigue and emotional depth. Rating: 7/10
