Sophia is traveling around the world with her dog, her dog's lovely bone, and her parrot, and you need to find them and other objects or living beings that are within the area. Beware, though. The area is very vast. Oftentimes, a level will contain more than one island at once, where many points of interest are surrounded within each island. Since each area can contain many people, it can be hard to find the one that you need to look for—it feels like finding a needle in a haystack most of the time. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3425662783 That being said, a few of its levels are indoors. I really like these levels since they are small enough and easier. Plus, it feels more fun finding objects where you don't have to scour every nook and cranny, scouring through many objects and people to find the one that you are looking for. There might not be many objects that you need to find in all levels, but there are still too many to remember them all at once. The game gives a hint-like clue where you can click on the objects that you need to find to see an excerpt about them. Reading it before looking for them seems to be the way it should be played, especially since it'll let you know the rough location of this object. However, sometimes they still give no meaningful clue, forcing you to scour the whole map without any help. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3282634462 Hints will be given every six minutes, which will let you know the location of one of the objects. It takes priority in finding objects from the top of the list, and although it is useful, it feels like I've been overly reliant on using it on levels with large maps. Because of that, six minutes feels like a long time to wait when you are on a large level with plenty of objects to find. The game will give a "yay" sound after you find an object. Honestly, I found it to be too noisy. There doesn't seem to be an option to disable it either. Length and Difficulty I finished the game in 2.2h. It can be difficult to find some objects due to how vast the area in some levels is, but hints recharge every six minutes, and you can technically idle and use them to find all objects needed to finish the level. Moreover, you only need to find most objects to unlock the next level, not all.
Conclusion
Sophia the Traveler would be a nice hidden object game if not for the vast map and its lack of descriptions to find the objects. Finding them feels like finding a needle in a haystack, and although it was the point of playing hidden object games, this one feels like a chore instead of fun.
It’s a hidden object game with really nice hand-drawn art that makes the scenes feel like you are walking around Venice. Everything is very colorful and full of detail, which looks beautiful, but also makes it harder to find things. The gameplay is simple. You just look for hidden objects and characters in each scene. But many items are placed in tricky spots, sometimes very small or hidden in busy areas. Some objects only appear after you interact with parts of the scene, so you can’t always just find them right away. Each level takes a long time to finish because there is a lot to search through. It can feel a bit tiring, especially when you feel like you’ve checked everywhere but still can’t find one small item. The hint system helps, but it has a cooldown, so you have to wait before using it again. Overall, it’s a calm and pretty game with a nice Venice-style setting. It’s good if you like slow hidden object games, but it can also feel a bit frustrating when the items are very hard to spot.
É um joguinho bem relaxante, atende todas as idades. A arte é bem cuidada. Recomendo passarem um mapa ou dois por dia, caso contrário pode ficar um pouco maçante.
wild price for such a short and frustrating game... - the clues are useless. a lot of them will be like "sophia is enjoying her fruit!" but the map is enormous and when you finally fine sophia, there's no fruit anywhere near her - other than her sprite eating an apply or something, but you can see that in the list of objects to find. what's the point of writing it out as a hint? - the controls are clunky, despite this game only using the mouse... the sidebar list of objects scrolled very very slowly, but the mouse zips around the map a little too quickly at times. - most of the maps are huge to the point where it's mega frustrating to try to find stuff, especially with the terrible hints. it's such a shame because the scenes are gorgeous - someone clearly spent a lot of time on the art for this game! but all that effort is wasted by how quickly the game saps your patience. just two or three levels in, i was fed up and zipped through the rest of the game with a walkthrough. - there *is* an overhead map that you can use to more easily navigate the giant maps, and i did appreciate that. however, other than the vague shapes of buildings, it was kind of pointless in terms of orienting yourself. other games with sprawling maps like this have clustered neighborhoods and buildings together to guide the player more intentionally, like having a main street for shopping while residential buildings are off to the side or something. the city layouts in this were pretty scattershot and random, so navigating and using logic to consider where items might be was pretty impossible. - there are ten billion windows and every so often, something you have to find is in one of those windows. good frickin luck figuring out which one - and they close after you open them, so don't lose your place! tldr the art is really adorable and that's literally all the game has going for it. i finished it in about an hour using a guide, just to nab the achievements... still not worth it.
I got a free code for this game and thought it'd be a fun way to turn off my brain while I'm fighting a cold, I love "find the thing" games. This is not enjoyable. The other negative reviews get the point across, I just want to add my two cents that even getting it for free didn't change the fact the "hints" are infuriating, every constant sound (including the "YAY!!" when you find an item) will drive you crazy, and it's not fun trying to search for items. 40 minutes in I used a walkthrough so I could get the achievements.
It's not awful, and indeed there's a lot of entertainment value to be had on 2/3 of the maps.....but there's a solid third of them that are just TOO big with way too many things to find with some of the absolute worst clues in the history of clues (oh, that person is probably at a coffee shop? Such a shame that there's six or seven coffee shops strewn across an absolutely massive map of Venice....). And this trend of hidden object/let's find waldo style puzzles inundated with "cute" sound effects and many accented voice sound-bites for everyone you click really needs to be stepped off of for awhile, especially if the maps are going to be as extensive as the Venice one (which you will visit twice!) and you will find yourself accidentally or on purpose clicking an a TON of people. Sorry, this is truly a subjective review, but speaking as a lover of this sort of game, this one left me feeling exhausted and sick of the whole game by the half-way point. I'm sure many others will enjoy this title, but I personally am glad to be done. Not recommended, but YMMV.....
Super cute game! If you're only looking at the screen to find things you're probably going to have a hard time because maps can be very big. HOWEVER if you zoom in and look at the scenes and enjoy how it's set up, you'll be able to find things without too much difficulty. This shouldn't be a game you rush through or you'll definitely be frustrated. The sounds are cute and it has such a cute artistic style!
