My play time is split between this version and the Switch version. It's pretty good. As someone that had the Sonic Mega Collection growing up, this collection feels kind of half baked. Playing through all the games in a row with the "story" cutscenes is pretty fun, but it's not really a reason to play these over the originals. It's just a few minutes of video in total. The upgraded versions of the games Play well and look nice, but I did encounter some strange glitches in almost every game both on PC and Switch. Most of these glitches were related to clipping through walls, which seems even easier in these versions and it happened by accident every time. The Game Gear games in the Plus version are slapped on to the old options menu and are just a bunch of ROMS. Nothing special there. Also for some reason the menu seems pretty resource heavy even though it's just a couple islands. This might be an issue on weaker hardware. The Switch displays the menu below 30FPS. As this is the current best way to play these games on Steam I will recommend it, but almost every older collection of Sonic games has more content. For context Sonic Mega Collection for GameCube was $40 at launch with more games, and even unlockable non-Sonic games. Then Mega Collection plus released for PS2/Xbox with EVEN MORE content for $20.

[i] I have played through all four games in this collection, just most on switch instead of PC! [/i] TL;DR: All great games with good improvements, 1&2 have aged more than others but still good, though it's not a perfect collection so I recommend the "Origins Ultrafix" mod and restoring the OG Sonic 3 OST. This is a very solid collection! The genesis sonic games hold up surprisingly well, and giving them widescreen, no game over system, and the Mania drop dash for more fluid gameplay modernises them brilliantly, and I love the extra animations created to bring the stories together more cohesively (since most of that story took place in the manuals of the original games!) Sonic 1 and 2 are fun games that mostly show their age in some aspects like BS deaths, especially Sonic 1, but are still great games to experience nonetheless. They benefit the most from having infinite lives because I really don't see how I was supposed to beat them without it lol, but if you still like the challenge then they have the classic mode. CD is a controversial game but honestly I find it to be one of the best in the collection, there was never a moment like in either of the previous games where I felt properly frustrated at the game, it was just a solid experience! I also enjoyed getting the good ending, I've always felt that special stages were a drag and this game makes it completely optional, with the caveat that you have to search and destroy the generators in every zone's past to get the "good future" boss fight. People disagree on this, but I actually quite enjoyed exploring the stages vast mazes to search for the generators, and only had one or two moments where I had to look up a map. If you want to play normally though, just have 50 rings by the time you reach the goal post and beat the special stage collect all of the time stones, or don't bother, good ending is just a slightly different cutscene lol Sonic 3 & Knuckles is a brilliant game, I can really see the sparks of the modern series here because it feels like through the cutscenes I get to experience the story as it's happening a lot more than other games of it's era. This is where hype moments and aura began, people. Not only that, but the level design is top notch. If you've played Mania you can REALLY see the inspiration, because I always feel like there's something new around the corner and I love some of the set pieces. HOWEVER!!! This is not a perfect collection, there are plenty of new bugs and inaccuracies, and unfortunately the majority of the Sonic 3 OST had to be replaced due to copyrights, and while it's a perfectly fine soundtrack (based on some prototype songs from the original composer before MJ's sound team got involved) it's just not quite the same going down the hill of Ice Cap without that amazing sound. Luckily we are on PC and this game is supported by the best mod manager for sonic games, HedgeModManager! I would recommend grabbing the Sonic Origins Ultrafix mod to fix up all of the bugs and inaccuracies, and there is the "Sonic 3&K HQ Genesis (VGM) OST" mod for the original Sonic 3 OST. There are a few more things, but I would recommend looking at the "Sonic Perfect System" guide for more info on that if you want to play the definitive versions of each of these games. Either way, would definitely recommend picking this up when it's on sale, it's a great way to experience these classics.
Mi recomendación es que te lo chapes en una gran oferta(como yo hice) y si en todo caso aun con una PC media o baja no te va bien por las islas en 3D instales un mod llamado switch terrain y en el Hedgehog mod manager pongas el código de 30 fps para estas, si buscas una mejor experiencia si o si instálate el mod llamado ultra fix que arregla casi todos los errores de los ports de los juegos clásicos y listo El juego base no esta ni de cerca de ser la colección definitiva se queda atrás demasiado, es decente o mediocre dentro de lo que cabe aun con el plus de añadido
this game was rushed. there are so many glitches and problems with these ports, its just not a good excuse. sega has made so many sonic collections over the years, and this was just rushed..it needs mods to be enjoyed to its full potential...

While 30 dollars for 4 classic masterpieces seems reasonable, I recommend to just buy this collection when it goes on sale. There is nothing really offensive if you are a regular sonic fan who isn't too obsessed with the franchise, but this collection is kinda eh? Now granted, you will get through the whole thing thanks to anniversary mode and its coins systems if you used to struggle previously with beating the game and getting the good endings or getting super/hyper sonic, this is probably the only positive I cant disagree with. however anything else is just not worth it. Mission mode is a neat idea but is just baby levels when compared to the generations' challenge acts or unleashed's DLC stages, it could have been greatly expanded upon but its just do this simple task for some coins. And then there is the museum but like I have already seen most of this before so whats the point, there is also the sonic 3 music changes and I have to wonder why didn't they go with the prototype versions since those sound way better and also would have been genuine extra love. Overall so many things could have been done with origins, as it stands, its just a 5/10 collection. Like I said, not offensive but also not worth it. If you are here to just play the classics then there are better places for that otherwise wait until it goes for 10 bucks.
If you buy this game (which you should really wait for a sale if you plan to), download the Ultrafix mod. Fixes a lot of the problems I would've ranted about had I not installed Ultrafix mod. It's not even that bad either, the animations are cute and it's a really smooth way to play the classic Sonic games (.. if you download Ultrafix.) ... Go download Ultrafix.
I've revisited Sonic Origins plenty of times after my [url=https://steamcommunity.com/id/howlikefresh/recommended/1794960/]original review[/url] on my old account and since then, I've genuinely warmed up to this compilation. Now do I think it's worth the price? No. Wait for a sale and get Origins Plus. That way you're getting, what I think, is the definitive original Sonic experience on the Mega Drive. I also highly recommend [url=https://gamebanana.com/sounds/download/61731#FileInfo_1115325]this mod for Sonic 3 & Knuckles specifically[/url] to get rid of the muffled audio. I really hoped the Origins Plus DLC would fix this but unfortunately, the S3K music is still muffled. You can also pick your poison and choose to download the original soundtrack from 1994 if you're into that. These days, I'd recommend Sonic Origins.
