I purchased this game through the crowd-funding because I'm a huge fan of the comic from the old Dragon magazines but I feel slightly let down as I was expecting some sort of quality control from Elmore on this game. This game is VERY linear and puzzles are buggy in there's many time you can't activate or pick up items until they're needed, in the order they're needed in the puzzles. Much of the puns and dialog I've come across seem rudimentary and aren't tough at all other then the buggy nature I mentioned earlier. The only thing I like about this purchase is that Elmore is getting some income (hopefully) from an old property of his. I'm glad I only purchased the first episode.
I bought my copy at GenCon and recieved a extra game key so I didnt have to open the box. I was able to load the game and play through the first part (getting Snarf Equipment)...but thats it. Once I have his gear it loops back to Snarf saying it is lunch time again and I have to do the missions all over. It is stuck in this loop and I haven't been aboe to see anything outside of the Snarf house. So... I opend my box thnking there was a DVD or CD in there to load the game on my lap top...nope, just another paper game token with a Steam Key on it. The reviews show a dragon, a wench, and multiple game areas I cant get to. There is no option to save my game/ load a game when I hit the "S" or the "L" or "ESC". Am i doing something wrong?
Purchased the Red Box at DragonCon 2015. Have been without a PC to play for several years. Just recently fixed machine and had a chance to play. If I knew going into this that the game had not been finished and only Episode 1 was available, I would be less disappointed. Well I did not know that development had stopped until I hit the end of Episode 1, and that was all that could be payed. I enjoyed being in the world pulled from the comic strip while it lasted. Wish there was more. Would recommend if the game had more content, but at it's current price point I cannot.
was a kickstarter supporter and happy they did deliver the project. underwhelemed by the game. Had to reduce resolution to get it to run on my i7. and it still feels clunkey.
Having backed this on Kickstarter, I had the chance over the last week to finally play through Episode 1 with my 7 year old son. We both had an absolute blast. My son LOVED the puzzles presented in the game, the rendering and quirky gameplay is intuitive and easy to work with. I enjoyed the MANY nerd culture references throughout. This is a great game for kids and adults alike. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the other chapters!
So disappointed - I am a big fan of the comic and Elmore. I have a signed copy of the book, in fact, and it's a treasure in my collection. But this game....very buggy and hasn't been updated since 2017? It is completely dead, don't buy it. Shame on the developers for having this for sale still when they know it's dead and a disaster.
An interesting point and click adventure game that could have been good if it was ever completed. (I doubt it'll ever leave early access, no updates in 8 years) It is a decent and faithful point and click adaptation of the Snarfquest comic by Larry Elmore (The famous early Dnd and Dragonlance artist), but this game was abandoned after episode 1 despite exceeding it's kickstarter goal. It was last updated in 2017, since which there has been complete silence from. (Besides a random facebook post in 2020). To add insult to injury, there are also some puzzles that are very buggy and may require you to restart the level, aka 1/5th of the game. There is about 3.5 hours of content here and it has the first 5 levels of the planned 25, up to before entering Suthaze's tower. (The 6th level is the one with all the castle and dragon screenshots and was a alpha demo released in 2015 for the kickstarter. That demo is no longer available and has been replaced with a demo of level 1 on their website, which you can download after submitting your email.) Again, it is a decent point and click, the puzzles are straightforward (as in there are no crazy leaps of logic) and have a lot of variety though not unique, and the graphics and voice acting is decent. (Snarf's voice sounds great, some lines not so much) What we have is fairly good, I just don't recommend it because it's just buggy and sadly incomplete, so if you do choose to get it, don't be surprised by it's abrupt ending.
Backed this game through kickstarter due to remembering the comic fondly. I never got around to playing the game when it initially was released, so was a bit (positively) surprised at the changes. This unfortunately didn´t stay long, since while the game looks nice compared to the comic there are plenty of other things which adds to the annoying aspects of the game. First of all the main character repeats what is being picked up in a some what monotonous tone. Repetative puzzles, having to do them 3 times to pass things, or for that matter being interrupted with what you are doing because the main character or some side character decides to talk - and the do that quite a bit. Secondly - it is only one episode you get. I know we have the covid situation going on, so odds of this being completed are slim, but the price is too much for what you are getting at given time (and I paid more than this through kickstarter). All in all I do hope the last four episodes will be finished, and the game polished since there are plenty of potential.
Sadly dead and abandoned game based on a comic I really enjoyed. The rest of the chapters will not be released.
Classic point-and-click gameplay with plenty of puzzles and snark.
