"SLICE your way through the worlds of mind trials". Oh well, I thought it was like those Kongregate games in which you have to make 2 or 3 cuts in order to eliminate a percentage of the figures on the screen.. it seems it's another kind of puzzle game, at least. But.. Once you open the game, well, the game itself is just that. No, there are no mind trials at all, no trivia or questions.. it's exactly that - cut the figures and the blocks. Every level will feature some cuttable 2D figures and some triangles of the same color - you'll be asked to cut down the figures (of course within a limited number of moves) in order to make them fall through those small triangles. Obviously, going on with the levels will make new colored blocks and triangles appear and so on. It's definitely simple, but.. if you don't take anything you see here on the Steam store page for real, it's a nice enjoyable Flash-like game. Both graphics and music are extremely minimalistic, but this is not always something bad. Here, it fits the fact that this game has to be played for 5/10 minutes waves with maybe some radio show or youtube video on the background. If you're into these kind of puzzles that ask no "mind trials" as the developers say, well, it's a nice game for its price. You can find many similar games for free on Flash websites, but it's ok, it has no bugs and it's quite long. For all the rest, it's really nothing special.
Please follow our curator page IndieGems for more reviews.
SLICE is a physics-based puzzle game. The goal is to cut geometric shapes in a certain way so the gravity would take the cut chunks to a certain spot. The main challenge is a limited amount of slices you can use per level. Reaching the goal is usually not the problem. Optimizing the strategy to use as little slices as possible is much harder. Visuals are very simple and needed a little bit more polish in my opinion. Music is okay and fits the theme of the game but I wish there was more variety. These are all minor complaints. SLICE is definitely worth the tiny asking price of $0.99. eggsactly what i wanted from this. and slice is good, very calm cutting. really hope dev will not forget this one :)
april 2020 edit: 100 new levels got added, making it a total of 225. slice wears its main gameplay mechanic on its sleeves: all you have to do is cut various shapes into smaller pieces in a way that they reach and touch their designated target. hold left click to see where the cut will happen, release to see what you've done, or press the right mouse button if you changed your mind. right click otherwise instantly restarts the level, which I found really neat, love it when games don't waste my time. there are 100 main levels in 5 worlds and every level in a world is unlocked immediately, but you need to complete a certain number for further packs to become available. while you can slash away to your heart's content, levels will only be deemed complete if you finish them within the move limit, which is usually not more than 2 or 3, so levels are short, but not always trivial, and due to physics, they can be a bit random. each world has its own mechanic, like color changers, meaning pieces might need to be repainted before they reach their destination, then there's gravity manipulation and a few other things. they're all fun, except the 'anti-target' mechanic in world 5, which destroys everything it touches. luckily, not every level has them. once you complete all 100 levels, 25 bonus levels become available. these got added after release, have a bunch of new mechanics, and they're among my favorites in the entire game, so it's definitely worth unlocking the pack. of the 100 original levels I had to look up 8 to achieve this, mostly in world 5, but I'm not good at these sort of games anyway. I managed to do every bonus level on my own though. in april 2020 100 more levels got added, they can be accessed with enough points, just like the other sets. timing is necessary sometimes, as there can be moving objects to consider. based on your level of patience (I have none) it can get a bit frustrating, but since levels are quick and restarts are instantaneous, trying and trying again isn't a huge deal. the graphics are functional, I really liked the music, but weirdly enough, cutting sounds like strumming a guitar. possible missed opportunity there, though it also goes well with the music. no volume sliders or any settings, only an audio on/off button, and no proper windowed mode, alt+enter only produces a window that can't be resized, so it's not great in this respect. much to my surprise, I had a lot of fun and managed to complete most of it on my own. plenty of levels and new mechanics in every level pack, it's challenging but not really frustrating, and very cheap, so if you're into physics-based gameplay, or thinking about trying one, give it a shot. or a slice.
challenging, relaxing and fun game
This game is just amazing. You dont just get what you paid for, you get even more. There are lots of levels, puzzles are challenging and visuals are BEAUTIFUL. I love minimalistic approach of this game: mechanics, story and even graphics and music is very simple, yet very enjoyable. 喜加一拿到的 真的非常推荐这款游戏。10内完全可以接受。和淘bao的慈善包获得的垃圾游戏完全不是一个档次
Very nice little indie. Simple pretty graphic, fair price. More deeper playing mechanics like coloring of the shapes or gravity etc. are present. Its quite challenging too. From levels 25+ the game will test your logic skills pretty good... Or Im just slow. :) I dont personally like (someone can) levels when your timing matter more than logic (lever type of levels or with destructive triangles waiting to get to their position). Gameplay time: 2.5h and I beat 75/100 levels. Edit: 3.7h 87/100. Edit2: 4.4h 97/100. Rest of the levels are pretty tought to crack. I would guess that skilled player would need around 4-5h to beat whole game. 5.0h 100/100. Thats very ok for the price. Yes, I would definitely recommend the game. Bug (?): Sometimes it happen that moving coloring bar just floats from the played level. It flows outside the level borders. After level reset its ok. Annoying thingy: Quit button in menu is at the same position as Menu button in play screen = right top corner. My reflex tell me double click on icons so when I want to change the level and go to the menu with doubleclick I often ended with closed game. Change position of the buttons slightly or add confirmation window with exit.
The most fun you can have slicing without anyone getting hurt.
