Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition

This is an underrated open-world gem with fantastic hand-to-hand combat, an engaging undercover cop story, and a beautifully realized Hong Kong. The driving, atmosphere, and brutal melee system make it stand out from other crime games. It may be a bit older now, but it's still an easy recommendation for anyone who loves story-driven hong kong style action games.

Story — 8/10 Sleeping Dogs delivers an enjoyable undercover crime story inspired by classic Hong Kong action films. While the narrative is engaging and filled with emotional moments, many of its twists and character arcs feel familiar if you've watched a lot of Hong Kong crime movies. It's a solid story, but not particularly groundbreaking. Characters — 8.5/10 Wei Shen is a likable protagonist whose struggle between his duty as a police officer and his loyalty to the Triads adds emotional weight to the story. The supporting cast is memorable enough to keep you invested throughout the campaign, even if some characters could have been explored further. Gameplay — 8/10 The martial arts combat is satisfying and remains the game's biggest strength. Environmental takedowns are fun, and driving is enjoyable. However, after many hours, combat encounters and side activities begin to feel repetitive, making the gameplay loop lose some of its freshness. Open World & Atmosphere — 8.5/10 Hong Kong is packed with personality despite not being the largest open world. The busy streets, neon lights, markets, and local culture give the city a unique identity that helps distinguish Sleeping Dogs from other open-world crime games. Graphics & Presentation — 8/10 For a game originally released in 2012, the Definitive Edition still looks respectable. Lighting and environmental details have aged reasonably well, although facial animations and some textures clearly show their age. DLC Content — 8.5/10 The Definitive Edition includes all downloadable content, providing additional missions, outfits, vehicles, and gameplay variety. While not every DLC is equally memorable, they add worthwhile extra content and improve the overall package. However, once everything has been completed, there isn't much incentive to return beyond replaying favorite missions. It's a shame that one of the most unique open-world games never got the chance to continue.

It's a good game. Amazing combat. Has a good story, but the story progression is jumpy at times. The movements feel janky sometimes. But considering the time this game came out, it's acceptable. A must play from me. Things I don't like : Very easy to earn money. Bland cars. Lack of side content. The DLC's are gimmicky and boring. Collecting stuff from all around the map. It's not replayable.
