Details

Gr8 Sk8r Grrl!: a solid skating game that has great flow and nice depth
https://store.steampowered.com/app/920820 Cally is a skater out to prove herself in a glorious 16-bit universe somewhere in 1988. One mistake and Cally ends up in hospital with broken bones, but glory awaits! A comprehensive tutorial introduces you to an overwhelming array of keys to manage the many tricks. A game of absolute focus on reaction speed and dexterity, it is punishing but does reward players with a great variety of achievements and unlockables.

Summary

A game from a simpler time, but don't be fooled: it takes a lot to master this one. Stick with it and you can guide Cally to glory! Recommended!
Pros: - rock-solid responsiveness - good learning curve - bags of achievements - it focusses on one thing, and does it well - nice use of replay camera Cons: - tutorial is daunting, however it pays dividends - menus are finicky - graphically, could have more diversity https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1748238549

See Also...
https://store.steampowered.com/app/717190
All boyflea reviews can be found at Good Indie Free Game Reviews
It feels like a plain copy of OlliOlli. I had more fun with OlliOlli than this. The controls are way easier though. Too bad it's still bland and not fun.

Do Every (Fliptrick、Grab、Grind、Special) Do a 1000000 Point Combo
This game is so rad. If you enjoyed OlliOlli, you'll be all about this. Only recently did I find out about the Cally series of games and this is so out of left field but awesome at the same time. So glad it exists. https://youtu.be/2-t8uvsC3js
Played this game on both its beta and release state. So far the dev team has shown their interest and devotion to making this the best game for players and themselves. Always a good sign, considering how a lot of other games, big and small, are supported these days. That being said, I have limited experience with skateboarding games, but plenty with those of this kind of retro asthetic. The look and sense of energetic motion is easy for me to appreciate. Also makes me think this would easily lend itself to mobile ports. Though, the controls may be a hurdle. Speaking of which, I foolishly played this game entirely on laptop keyboard, so far. The learning curve was noticeable for me, but the tutorial quite helped. That and Cally having a physicality that just rebounds from every broken bone detail, somehow. No doubt this plays better with a controller or game pad, but I have still enjoyed my time with it so far on keyboard alone. Seems worth checking out this fun addition to the franchise. (Still holds up and continues to be updated by the developer.)
Remember Skate or Die on original Nintendo? I bet most people are not old enough to remember it, but it was a great game. This is a lot like it, but more modern. It is still quite simplistic and that is a plus in this instance as this game does not need to do too much in order to be fun. Well worth the price if you enjoy simple indie sports games.
There's no balance meter for tricks and grinds... There's no customization to character or tricks etc so the game feels very limited and what's here is very poor. I bought the game for under a dollar and still don't think it was worth it. It feels like a game you would play on a flash site done by a Randy as a student project as the dev clearly has no talent whatsoever. I can see why this game has barely gotten any sales in the four years since release as it's trash.
Skater Cally is a casual 2d sidescroller skate boarding game. You’ll do tricks like grabs, grinds, kick flips and specials. Skater Cally has a career and free skate mode with a variety of levels across multiple areas. In career mode, you’ll beat each level individually and free skate is every level combined. When you first start off, it will take you through the tutorial, which I recommend doing. Once done, you’ll progress through multiple levels with 3 goals like high scores, grind this or jump that. Getting the longest combos by connecting tricks with grinds and manuals is the key to getting a high score. Game play is fast paced and fun with solid controls. I used a controller when I played and the responsive trick system was easy enough using buttons for each trick and the left joystick for modifiers. Didn’t try using a keyboard, but I imagine it would be just the same. It doesn’t take long to figure out how to squeeze in as many tricks as you can. There’s a bone breaking system when you take a fall which I wish you could skip or turn off, I want to get back to playing right away and it didn’t really provide anything extra to the game play experience. With that said, be careful not to die, because you’ll start the level over again when you do and any big combos you achieved will be reset. Overall Skater Cally plays well and the in level challenges make playing levels over again interesting. I really enjoyed playing Skater Cally and it’s a great game to pick up and play here and there when you don’t have much time to play. If you’re a fan of any of the old skateboarding games like Tony Hawk, you’ll enjoy this one. Full Video Review: https://youtu.be/8pzzZUyfCjM
This game is awesome! Tony Hawk meets 2d games!
8/10 "Worthy competitor of Olli Olli, however holds its own in uniqueness and swag" This game has been an excellent experience minus some minor details (and I mean minor)! Pros: Solid game-play mechanics, smooth frame-rate all the way through, diverse trick list, AMAZING soundtrack, easy pick up and play and challenging to master, map-able keys/buttons, Replays, Menu layout (when paused, is clear and to the point), Board flips look quite accurate for being 2D pixel, The auto-push feature can alleviate some pressures of getting used to the more classic play-style to where there is one less button to worry about to help focus on moves and not worry about gaining speed. Cons: Visuals/Character animations could use some sprucing up (the boards flips and transitions are already nice though), performing ollie and flip tricks via the analog stick as an option would be a nice addition though the current style isn't bad resembling more of a "Tony Hawk" style rather than a "Skate" style with the stick. (the auto push feature may make this more tolerable which I haven't tried)
