BEFORE YOU BUY, PLEASE READ THIS!!! First off, this game is 11 gigs on the hard drive. WHY?!?!? It's an old game, why would an old game need over 11 gigs? The original game is 8 gigs. This is already fouled up in so many ways. When you buy this game, the game won't work right away, there's a Steam bug that prevents you from playing the game until you do a few things. 1.) You don't need to buy the original "Silverfall" game, however, it is required 2.) This is an expansion pack that goes with this game 3.) Why Steam hasn't fixed this bug is beyond me THis game works just fine, however, here is what you need to do to get this game to work if/when you buy this game... 1.) Install the game as normal with Steam 2.) After you install this game, right-click on the game title in Steam 3.) Select "Properties" from the menu 4.) Select "Installed Files" from the menu 5.) Click on the "Verify Integrity of game files" 6.) When it does this, it will say that it's missing 150 files 7.) Let it do it's thing and install the rest of the missing files 8.) Once done, now the game is installed, however, you are not done yet 9.) Go to google, and search for "PhysX_2.4.4_SystemSoftware.exe" 10.) Make sure it's the PhysX_2.4.4_SystemSoftware, and nothing else 11.) Download that file and install, it's needed to play ths game 12.) Do not install the current or newer version of PhysX, it won't work (For the record, when you install this game, this file is in the "Silverfall" folder in the Steam directory, go to your Steam folder... Usually in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Silverfall" In there, there should be a file "PhysX_2.4.4_SystemSoftware.exe", install this file because it is needed. Once installed, now it should work. (If it doesn't work, there's one more thing you might do. In the "Silverfall" folder in Steam, look for the... "silverfall.exe" Right-click on the "silverfall.exe", click on "Properties", click on the "Compatibility" tab, and in the "Compatibility Mode" section, check the box and select "Windows XP Service Pack 2", then click "Apply". It should work now. If the game still doesn't work, I am not sure what other advice I can offer you, other than a refund. Now, with that being said, time to review... Silverfall is a 3D style RPG game, similar to "Baldur's Gate". When you begin the game, it will ask you to first, make a character, and then if you want to start at Lv 1 for the main game, or Leverl 45 for the expansion pack, which is this game. This game requires you to be level 45 as the original game you start out with the main story and build yourself up. Graphics are actually not too bad compaired to today's games. The character design is very nice and 3D models are very smooth. The animations are very well done, and the characters, monsters, and environments have a very ncie look to them. Movement can be done in 2 ways. You can use the "WASD" keys to move, or you can use the mouse to click on where you want to go. You can use the "Delete" and "Page Down" keys to rotate the camera around, and use the "End" and "Home" keys to angle the camera where you want it. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out as needed. Press the "C" key to see your character stats as well as increase your stats when you level up. Press the "I" key to see your characters items, weapons, and armor as well as used to equip your weapons and armor. Equiping your weapons and armor is as simple as click and drag to the proper locationon the character. Press the "M" key to see the map of the area you are in. When you start out, it's covered in a tan like ♥♥♥, but as yuo travel, you will show more of the game as you progress through the game. To attack monsters, you just find one and click on the monster. Along the way, you can interact with NPC characters in certain locastions. Warning, not all NPC characters will allow you to interact with. Only those with a "!" or some kind of icon on top of their heads will be allowed to talk to you. Most cases, those with a "!" are quest NPC's. Money can be obtained from either killing monsters, selling items you find, or finishing quests. As you battle or find chests, items will be found all over the place. Everytime you kill a monster, they will drop items, weapons, or armor. You can also find NPC's who sell weapons and armor in various locations. Moving from one location to another is a bit odd. Sometimes you will reach an area where it takes you to another realm. (for example, you start out in the swamp, but as you travel, you find the edge of the map that takes you to a desert area) Once in a while, you will find a cave. When you get close, it will ask you if you want to enter the cave or not. You can also learn spells and crafting in this game. They are updated and upgraded by talking to certain people in verious towns. How much you can upgrade is based on your characters level. Overall, it's a very neat game. It's just sad that this game has so many issues to deal with before you can play the game. Oddly enough I did not have any crash issues playing this game. Every time I have played, it plays smoothly without crashing or dumping me back to Windows. Some things to keep in mind when you get this game... 1.) It's an old game, it came out around 2007, a time when Windows XP was still used. So if the game does not work for you, please don't be too upset, it's an old game and ran under Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7. 2.) When changing the settings in your game, please set it no higher than 1366x768. It works great in 1920x1080 and the graphics are just fantastic for it's time, even at higher resolutions. However, the text will shrink in size the higher you set the resolution. This is a gaming bug that they did not consider at the time. So please keep this in mind when you set your settings. Keep the resolution a bit low so you can read the text. 3.) It's sad that Steam sells the original game and this expansion as 2 different games. During the time when the game was out, they made a "Gold" version, which was both games in 1. I don't understand why Steam didn't make it as one game, as it is sold as a "Gold" game most other places. The fact that you don't need to buy the first game makes it seriously redundant to get the first game in the first place. 4.) When you are walking around, if you have some kind of issue where you can't walk any further, well, oddly enough, you probably can't walk any further, even if it shows or looks like you can. Not so much a bug as the game was very limited in scope as well as map size. Again, this is an old game, it can only do so much.
I've loved this game since the boxed version of Silverfall, when I could barely run it. I highly recommend adding this to the base game for the sheer tonnage of content and improvements. Supports higher resolutions, but the font size becomes microscopic. Still looks good, and plays great. Feels like your own personal MMO. Character developement still shines with tech vs. nature decisions, and racial abilities. Helpful companions, a vast world to explore, and tons of steampunk, and fantasy trope loot. It's a real shame that this didn't become the classic that it deserves to be.
From my point of view it is still an amazing rpg & looting game I got familiar with this game long long time ago. Around the year of ?? 2009 ??, one of the Hungarian gamer magazine (maybe "PC Guru") came with this game's !!!! CD !!!! as a bonus ^,^ (yepp.. CD and not DvD :D ) ( Previously its base game, the "Silverfall" CD was the bonus for the monthly magazine :) ) I loved and still love this OFFLINE game even if it has some annoying mistakes. Why did I buy it even if I have its CDs? ==> Easier to download and install via Steam :P Is it worth to buy this game in 2023 and in the upcoming years? Unfortunately I do not know... Even if this game provide many many features

skills
-> you can unlock different base attacks with "unique" bonuses and CAN improve them with skill points further more. Which is quiet unique due to so far I had not seen such a thing in nowadays games.
-> active skills
-> many many passive skills.
Party with NPC
-> During your journey you will meet many many NPCs and some of them can be hired to your party BASED on which side (Technology vs Nature) you are on currently. (unfortunately it can be affected by some missions only)
Even this game made almost 2 decades ago it have a very huge map. This map built up by many smaller areas. Crossing borders will trigger a loading screen so the target area can be loaded.
Every NPC that can be hired has its "own feeling" that has to be handled via interacting with them
Average story
But to mention some bad points as well :P

If your character dies, you have to find your corpse and get your Equipments back (kek...)
Sometimes the Earth Awakening has to be completely reinstalled or some tricks has to be used due to the steam version for some reason sometimes failed to start even if you just closed it and did not modify its files. But on the steam forum and maybe on reddit you can find more information about it (lol.....)
So yea....basically it is a good game but.... has some issues xDD
This is a very old RPG game with a lot of strange little quirks. The enemies scale with your level making the game difficulty incredibly punishing. If you know how to play the game well this isn't a concern as any character type, properly equipped and built, can complete the full game in an hour on the hardest difficulty. There is no information on how stats work, and some skills are broken. The crafting system is a great example as a lot of the enchants don't do what they say they do. If you want to master this game you'll have to do a lot of in-game experimentation and theory crafting; however, no one will bother because the game isn't really good enough to make you do so. I have sheets and sheets of paper covered in notes about enchantments, stats, skills, racial abilities etc etc. I love this game as I've played it, on and off, for years. It's always fun to come back to and create a new character when I have a wee holiday from work. With the correct foundation you can create characters that can 1-shot kill the hardest monsters in the game and the fast-paced nature of good end game builds reminds me of the old Diablo days. I would not recommend it to others as hey could simply play a better game which is less punishing.
The Earth Awakening improves on many problematic aspects of the main game, adding a big chunk of map, changing the UI, the way the camera works (which is a huge improvement compared to the original game), adding a possibility to move with WASD (which again rescues you in may situations and solves problems from the base game) and a bunch of skills. But it comes with its own problems. The game crashes frequently on maps with high number of enemies, especially the Etherea's library and the Nexus. There was no other option for me than rush through those using a speedhack, otherwise it wouldn't be possible to finish the game. Nevertheless the game is much better with the expansion and I can recommend it, if you like janky games.
broken garbage.
In buona sostanza, con Earth Awakening potete solo giocare all’espansione.
