Got it for cheap in a bundle if memory serves and played it a bit. From what I gather its a mobile port so it's a bit simple but for the right price and if you're in the right mood its an ok dungeon crawler with some cool pixel art. Still... with so many great dungeon crawlers at even cheaper prices, hard to give this game a positive recommendation. The competition is fierce. Get Darkquest 2 instead looks a lot better. stratejik dungeon savaşları hızlı akıyor güzel gibi sardı
需要反复刷图攒钱,重复度非常高,难度也不合理。
For me this game is a DO NOT BUY! There are already 3 other games and they have greatly improved the game. This one is terrible and there are so many things wrong with it. This should just be released for free.
TL; DR Dark Quest is not all that interesting or long, but with the Remastered update it plays more like a boardgame and less like a mobile game and that is an improvement. Note Dark Quest is light on story and summarised within the opening cutscene of its sequel. If you want to play one game, play the follow-up. Dark Quest’s story is as complex as the store page says, there really is nothing more to say: there is an evil wizard, and you should stop him. There is no further exposition, and no actual story developments, which is nice in certain circumstances. However, since it does draw aesthetic inspiration from the Sword & Sorcery genre it would have been nice to see something more, I am not asking for a civilisation of Lake People right beside the village, but simply stating that it would be nice to have more Sword & Sorcery games with some minor narrative focus, give me a quest that evokes the The Mirrors of Tuzun Thune. Gameplay is a more important topic, and Dark Quest does have it, although it is rather barebones. You delve into a series of dungeons and fight a limited roster of enemies with your three heroes. Sometimes someone blocks an attack, or resists magic, otherwise simple tactics will carry you through the entire game, and the recurring boss-type enemies. Along the way you gather gold, step on traps, search for “Job Well Done” star stickers, and roll the skull of fate. In these regards both versions of Dark Quest are the same, and in these aspects, it does not differ much from the sequel. However, the original version, which can be played by downgrading the game, is essentially a mobile game. Missions cannot be replayed, potions have a chance to fail, everything you buy has limited uses &cetera. That version is not worthwhile at all which is why I never reviewed it. Dark Quest: Remastered on the other hand, is slightly better since it fixes these issues. It streamlines the bloated list of items into a more manageable set of permanent upgrades, sure you can no longer use a flail to hit several enemies at once, but now spells are learnt and not consumed which vastly improves the experience. Now the game can actually be fun, such as when you stack a permanent defensive buff with a potion to make you nigh invincible. They also added a final quest which is a randomised maze with a fixed final encounter. It is not very fun, due to two reasons. Firstly, it has a higher trap density and due to chance, you can never learn where they are so you can end up an atrophied husk if your luck is poor. Unfortunately I had not realise that Detect Traps was an always active ability, use my knowledge. Secondly, the encounters are random and therefore boring, they do not challenge you in interesting ways, they are just trying to wear you down, which is not fun when paired with point one. All in all, Dark Quest is fine if you are playing the Remastered version, it is not great, and was improved with alter titles, but it is competent enough to be enjoyable for an hour or three.
It is a fun and short game. It took me about 4.5 hours to go through the campaign. Controlling the characters is really antiquated, though. I have a hard time liking a game that I can't click on what route I want a character to move by and then perform actions or perform actions then move. The game doesn't allow using items after moving for some reason or trading items between characters. But for very cheap the game was fun.
Hats off to the developers for restarting the game after the news that the original was off the market. This remains faithful to the board game ("I was there, Gandalf, three thousand years ago..."), and Brain Seal's continued effort and support for this Saga makes buying all these games together worthwhile. Good on yer, boys and girls, and here's to a really great future of simple remastered classics in the face of terminally-overpriced and GPU-overloading modern rubbish. You would be mad to dodge buying this bit of simple timewasting, but it's not for those without patience and a sense of fun. I highly recommend it and its sequels as a veteran Dungeoneer of forty-five years' experience.
6.8/10 I discovered these games the other night when I did a search for Heroquest on Steam. After reading the reviews I bought and played through Dark Quest 2 as it received decent reviews. I enjoyed that game and played it for 12 hours over the next 2 days. Since the original Dark Quest was also on sale for less than $5 I decided to try it. It is very rudimentary in it's execution, but it does an okay job of giving you that old heroquest feeling. It hasn't aged well, and is basically like playing the board game (with no rules or explanations given). But since I played the board games, I understand the vibes. For me this is an okay waste of 8 hours or so, but I don't think too many people will enjoy this if they were not original Heroquest players from back in the day. That being said, I am looking forward to trying Dark Quest 3 and 4 in the future.
What is the purpose of the Skull of Fate? The outcome is 99% negative. If I had 50 Skull of Fate RNG's, 47 were negative (ie. lose a point of health, lose next turn, lose gold, etc.) I read this was a mobile game ported to PC. Looks and acts like it. Maybe the Skull of Fate is their way to beat you down and pay for more micro-transactions. Not a hard game. Not too challenging. A good premise. But some gameplay frustrations. On to Dark Quest 2 to see if it is any better.
