Reviews
You see some reviewers claim that real-world knowledge is preventing them from enjoying the game, that the game's rules are illogical and unintuitive. You don't really know what they are talking about, because they don't give examples. So I'll fill that gap. You have 3 chips: a slow combinatorial chip C1 (whose output never changes after stabilizing, but that shouldn't really matter), a slow sequential chip S1 and a fast sequential chip S2. You combine them to build a bigger chip moving the data in one direction with no backfeeding: C1 -> S2 -> S1 What do you think is going to happen if you remove S2 and just connect it like so: C1 -> S1 Is the whole thing going to be faster or slower? That's right. It's going to be... slower. If you go step by step you'll see S1 just spin its wheels, doing nothing for half the clock cycle. What. The. ♥♥♥♥. Can I learn these quirks, understand them and work with them? Yes. Do I want to? No.

This game will often times present you with modules that don't work as described. It apparently does this as a sort of "gotcha". Which doesn't work well in this style of game I feel.
Silicon Zeroes is a programming themed block connecting puzzle game that has you drag and drop different puzzle components and connect them together. This won't teach you anything about basic computational science, it's just a veneer on a basic arithmetic puzzle game. The problems with the game are more just to do with the minimalist, mobile app/browser tier presentation, as we all recall this has perhaps incorrectly been published on Steam instead of on mobile app stores or as a web browser game as this seems to have been intended. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features extremely lazy, minimalist "art", of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2023 (and this was released not so far back in 2017), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Silicon Zeroes has the laughable price of $15 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. That's right, this might as well be a Flash game, but the developer thinks it's better than the entire Mass Effect Trilogy pack, and priced the game higher. What a joke. This is also competing with over 9,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
I love the idea of this game, and I think it starts off great. However, it quickly snowballs into something of extreme frusteration. There's no tutorials and you're often left wondering what to do and how to do it. The process is also tedious and management becomes a nightmare that simply makes 100%ing this feel like a chore. I really like the concept and I really did enjoy this game at the beginning, but over time it turned from something fun into something that felt like it hated you. I know it's supposed to represent the beginning of computers and that that process was tedious like this, but the evolution this game expects ebbs and flows in such an unnatural way that it just doesn't feel rewarding. This is like a 5/10, and I hate that I have to say it's that low, but I think the direction this takes just won't be for a LOT of people unless you know this is specifically what you want to do.
3/10 remember when games were fun?
Experience a mere glimpse of the madness inside of a hardware engineer's mind.
really fun little puzzle game with some very brain-bending puzzles
