Run it in Win XP SP3 MODE and Admin lunch as default. It works fine
compared to Ace Patrol, Pacific Skies really leaves a lot to be desired, there's more bugs and if anything less features. Also it seems in Pacific Skies damage is linked to the difficulty whereas in Ace Patrol it isn't. this manifests in pacific skies as downing planes in a single attack vs having to make a few passes in Ace Patrol. (this may be a reflection of the technological advancement between ww1 and ww2 however for gameplay purposes it's a miss)
I mean play it if you want, not sure why anyone would want to
Pros - Lots of fun missions with scores for replayability - touchscreen support and touchpad on Steam Deck works great although the icons on the screen are just a little too small - cloud support - great music - Can play as the Japanese or Americans with real/realistic missions based on WWII - The pilots have voice acting - You can choose to have males or both genders which is a nice touch - injuries carry on to the next mission - Even if you fail the mission you continue to the next because failing missions becomes part of your lore/campaign Cons - When it comes to upgrading, choosing pilots, and maneuvers, I have no idea what I'm doing - Running on a desktop requires compatability mode for Windows 8

Sid Meier’s Ace Patrol: Pacific Skies to lekka, turowa gra bitewna osadzona w realiach II wojny światowej. Gracz dowodzi eskadrą myśliwców, wykonując misje nad Pacyfikiem. Prosta mechanika, stylizowana grafika i krótka forma sprawiają, że gra nadaje się na szybkie sesje, choć brak jej głębi i różnorodności. Ocena: 6/10.
A turn based plane battling game. Actually pretty fun. Too bad it's stuck with low resolution...
The sequel to Ace Patrol takes us to the Pacific, swapping the elegant biplanes of WWI for the faster, deadlier fighters of WWII. The problem? It’s basically the same game with a new backdrop and slightly beefier planes. The gameplay is still fun for a few hours, but after a while, déjà vu kicks in—“wait, haven’t I done this mission ten times already?” Combat still relies on that mystical damage system where one shot barely scratches the paint, and the next one sends a plane into oblivion. There are some positive changes towards the first game (the airplane upgrades are not transfered to new planes) but other changes are worst (you can't skip missions, unless you do not have suficient pilots). As with my previous review, I would not recomend you to buy this game alone but, if if you’re a Sid Meier fan, enjoy turn-based games, and have a soft spot for WWII aviation, it’s worth a couple of hours of your time. I only recemond this game if purchased on a bundle with a good price tag! Overall, a 5/10 score.
