The gameplay is fine, but I cannot recommend this title simply because Firaxis/2k borked the My2K connectivity and all interplay for Beyond Earth and Starships, and after several support tickets it is abundantly clear they have zero intentions of bothering to patch the game to fix it, even when they have done that for their other titles. Really poor customer disservice.
Game is broken, each time I launch, not only it crashes it also crashes steam client...
I don't really understand the antagonism towards this game. It's a stable, solid addition to the Civ franchise. The work that has gone into the tech tree is impressive, the affinities and the way they interact with the broader game-play is very sophisticated and the design is beautiful. Only one minor gripe is maybe that the soundtrack is very unadventurous but hey! You can't have everything!
Criminally underrated. Great customization options and the Civ 5 engine is superior to its successors. 4X at its best
Good game,F*ck T2 and 2K.

welp after so many hours of somewhat enjoying this BROKEN ASS game and then recently getting into it, I think im going to have to retire it mid campaign and never play it again. The game is broken, always has been (screen goes black and all I can see is the mouse cursor) ive tried so many workarounds and now im at a point where the game cant advance without crashing. Guess i go back to playing Alpha Centauri Firaxis can suck a D
i'm more of a scifi guy than a history guy, but one thing that makes normal civ work is that when you look at the research tree and see a node called "tank," you already know what a tank does. you just kinda by default understand that a tank is a treaded armored vehicle that has a big gun. when you look at the research tree in beyond earth and see "nanohive," you don't really have a sense of what that means for your game. so you're stuck trying to parse the already-opaque long list of traits and skills and requirements when you hover over the nanohive research node, which was already rough in regular civ but nearly impenetrable in beyond earth now that everything is funny make'em'up words. i was so excited for this one but my eyes glazed over when i realized i'd need to learn a new language to have any hope of progression. i've never been good at "winning" at civ, i always just like building everything out, and that's difficult in this one with any sort of purpose or forethought.
