Gameplay Mechanics: 6/10 Narrative: 5/10 Graphics: 7/10 Sound and Music: 7/10 Replayability: 6/10 Innovation: 6/10 I really wanted to love Beyond Earth. A new planet, the remnants of humanity starting over, futuristic tech—it sounded like the perfect evolution of Civilization. But after a few games, the excitement wears off, and what’s left is a half-baked version of Civ V with a sci-fi skin. Gameplay is just… fine. The core turn-based loop is intact, but everything feels a little thinner. The new mechanics like the tech web and affinities seem cool at first but end up being shallow and unbalanced. Even city-building and combat—normally highlights in Civ—lack the punch and depth of earlier titles. Score: 6/10. Narrative is a missed opportunity. Colonizing a new world should feel massive and mysterious, but the factions are bland, the quests are generic, and nothing ever truly surprises or challenges you. Score: 5/10. Graphics are serviceable. The alien terrain and unit designs look decent, but after a while, everything blends together and lacks visual personality. Score: 7/10. Sound and music are solid, though not particularly memorable. The soundtrack fits the tone, but it's not enough to elevate the experience. Score: 7/10. Replayability suffers because the factions don’t feel distinct and the tech paths don’t lead to dramatically different playstyles. It just doesn’t have the addictive “one more turn” magic. Score: 6/10. Innovation tries to shake up the Civ formula, but none of the ideas feel fully realized. It’s more ambitious in concept than execution. Score: 6/10. Bottom line: If you're a Civ fan, you'll find moments of enjoyment here—but they’re buried under systems that feel undercooked. Beyond Earth is a cool idea that doesn’t quite land. You're probably better off playing Civ V or VI again.
I played this game when it first came out and thought it was enjoyable. 11 years later I'm ready to try the DLC
This game is underrated. It has many philosophical themes everywhere, great design, and story. I really recommend to play it. Also, i hope that we're not going to have similar events that happened in this game. But as i see, we could need our version of Elodie. Games has predicted everything. This game is no exception.
Solid game with good looking graphics. Steep learning curve but better AI opponents than Civ VI or VII
At least it's better than Civ 7.
Game was buggy and now it does not even start I will never buy Civilization again and I have been a fan since civilization 3 bought all the games and sometimes I like paying the old versions but if they can fix the issues then why waste my money on something that does not work.
Maybe I just don't like Civ games.
Got stuck playing 5 hours in a row. It's a good civ game. Nothing special compared to the main franchise. Simple mechanics, easy to learn. Lacks a tutorial but you get to learn it quite quickly. It's a 6/10, worth buying if very cheap to spend some nice hours on it.
Suddenly, none of my Civilizations will load. Not Beyond Earth, or VI, V, VI. And I hate VII
