Great game! I played this as a mobile game years ago, but it was eventually removed from the app store. I kept hoping to play it again, so when I saw it was coming to Steam, I grabbed it right away. It's a turn-based tactical RPG where you move through different levels with your party. Sometimes you get to choose your path, which leads to new levels and lets you meet new characters. As you move to the next story node, you pick which characters to bring along while the others stay behind. Each level introduces one or two new characters to your party, so you always have plenty of choices. You can stick with your original team until the end or switch things up and try new characters every few levels. My only small complaint is that you have to include the new characters in your party each level, which means you can't always use your favorites, and they might not level up as much. Sometimes the new characters are weaker than your old ones, and other times they're much stronger, so you always need to adjust your team. As for difficulty, I did my first playthrough on normal and found it to be balanced well most of the time, except for the last mission, where you get a ton of new characters to your party and your "own" characters deal almost no damage. I then started a second playthrough on a harder difficulty, and if you know what you're doing, it's definitely manageable. The music is beautiful, and the new character models look good! If you are into turn-based games, definitely try this one!
Fun for a small indie strategy RPG; fairly shallow, but the mechanics are interesting. Multiplayer mode is lots of fun, even playing solo
I'm giving this game a good review, because I enjoyed my play through despite some balance issues in the last 5 or so missions. This is a fun little CRPG, with a surprisingly deep character building system. The combat scenarios are varied and force you adjust your tactics to the challenge at hand instead of adopting a single tactic for all scenarios. I played the game on the hardest difficulty setting and I would say it was suitably challenging although, towards the end, both your characters and the enemy were too tanky and the game slowed down. The game is an action point based CRPG where you control a party of anywhere from 3 to 12 characters. You don't get to create your own character, rather you use a set of premade characters to construct your party. Characters you use in a scenario gain one skill point that can be used to buy more skills, which are grouped according to weapon and magic type. Every scenario you gain around 2 more characters, and after approximately 4 scenarios you move a new area where you can only take 6 of the characters you've accumulated. The upside of this is that you get to construct the party that you want and the characters provided to offer hints about what abilities will be useful in the area. The downside is that new characters tend to be more powerful than the characters you have been carrying through the game, so you are penalized if you want to take a core team through from the beginning to the end. The scenarios are well designed, and the different areas you move through feel distinct from one another. There are several points in the game where you will be forced to adjust your tactics, e.g. the enemies might be immune to physical attack and require magic, or they start using elemental attacks that they didn't use before. This forces you to adjust your tactics and even adjust your party to deal with new threats. Death is permanent, however the large pool of characters you have means that you can find replacements unless if you mess up really badly. The story is bare bones, it's enough to keep the scenarios connected, but it doesn't always give you enough information to explain why you are headed to the next area. It also seemed to jump in places, like you're reading a book and when you get to the next chapter you feel like there was a chapter missing. That said, the game does branch in two places, and perhaps if I had played the alternate scenarios, I would found the parts I was missing. Still, it's not that the writing was bad, I just wished there was more of it. The game was fairly short, but In this case I think it was to the games advantage. The mechanics while varied, aren't particularly deep, and I think are perfect for a 20 hour game. If you're looking a CRPG to play, I'll recommend this game if you prefer gameplay over story. I should also note that the devs are active in the forums and quick to listen to complaints and implement changes. It is a rare thing to see devs so involved with their community.
A challenging good old school tactical fighting RPG with turn based combat.
Great RPG. This game is easy to enjoy and keeps you hooked. Gilligames really pulls it all together with the sound, acting, and how playable it is. Great game!
This is a fun little game that, IMO, is well worth it -- as long as your expectations remain as low as the price (currently US$4.99). The single-player campaign is a linear series of combat encounters with snippets of story and lore to provide background and context as to what you are doing and where you are going. "Shrouded Aspect" is not really a role-playing game and there are no character interactions or skill checks. Crafting is supported but, from what I can tell, it is very unpredictable; you collect gems and combine them to create a random magic item where both the item type and enchantments are random. Multiplayer is solid but very different from the single-player campaign composed exclusively of unlimited and independent combat encounters for "grinding" and accumulating loot with no story or map -- but it is still fun -- and, if there is sufficient interest, the dev has plans to expand upon it.
Fun tactical RPG; Most importantly, it RUNS well! The gameplay loop is familiar to those who have experience in the genre with some nice innovative features as well, such as the undo button for accidental moves. For the price tag, the singleplayer itself has multiple playthroughs in mind and is completely worth it. There is cooperative multiplayer scenarios as well, which is always a welcome addition to the tactical RPG genre.
The multiplayer is pretty fun
A very very good game!!!
