when i play horror games, i usually find myself getting sick of it after a while, be it through genuinely weak scares or cheap attempts at a story. shipwrecked, however, kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time. the mechanics are genuinely impressive, the story is interesting with multiple layers to it (literally,) and i found myself actually disturbed while playing it. this game very quickly became my favorite horror game, and i'm excited to see what squeaks has cooking for hi-09. if you're thinking of writing this game off as "just another mascot horror," you are seriously starving yourself of something phenomenal. if you play it, you won't regret it.
Although I inherently did not finish the full game (tis too spoopy), I watched a full synopsis on the rest of Layer 4 & more.. Wow.. Shipwrecked 64 is a game I always was confused about. Let me explain.. On the surface level, the screenshots & description describe it as a "helping Bucky & his friends escape from an island they crashed upon", detailing that its a cozy platformer where you do minimal tasks to help everyone out and win the game! Right?.. Well, it gets deeper.. The "original version" of the game is what Cogware have published for the public.. unscathed.. until you discover more and more throughout your playthrough.. Maximizing the potential to figure out what the real truth is behind the lost 1997 copy of the game.. What is Bucky not (or trying to) tell us? I don't want to spoil anything more, so, I want YOU to figure it out and experience one of the most innovative psychological horror titles I have played since Doki-Doki Literature Club, Kitty Kart 64, Silent Hill 2, & even Mouthwashing! Give it a shot and definitely do NOT play in the dark.. You'll thank me later!

easily one of the scariest games i've ever played, but it definitely has some issues. the best part of this game is the puzzles. i loved them. a lot of them are REALLY clever and, if you like ARG's, can get REALLY deep really quick. i streamed this game to my friends on discord and we just all collectively would try to solve the puzzles together making sure to document everything we could. it was awesome! the horror is extremely well done... at least to a point. the game really sells the aesthetic of it being an old school n64 game very well and it's atmosphere really really REALLY can get to you. also, many of the scares were so unexpected that they really got me good. there's a part of the game that had me so so SO scared in a way i've never felt before. the thing is... after this point of the game, the horror really began to run thin for me. i thought after this very long and scary section, i'd get a break, and yes, i do get about a 3 minute break before it throws me right into the fray. what was scary before was suddenly no longer scary to me and more just... annoying. it would result in me hiding for like 10-15 minutes straight because i simply had to avoid a monster or i just couldn't progress until something moved out of the way, or would stop spawning on top of me. even still, i enjoyed the game a lot. the story for it was also quite the mystery and i really enjoyed unraveling it as i continued to play. overall good stuff i just wish that some of the sections toward the end were a bit less annoying
This game gave me a great scare midway through, however I will say layer 4 and finale really dragged my enjoyment factor down, I wish they had done more puzzles rather than just 4 digit codes, also seriously 1 fish 2 fish red fish blue fish!? Other than that this game was quite scary!
i aint done yet but its so peak
deadass top 3 scariest games ive ever played
I just kinda hate this game imagine a game where you have to do chores to get scared and there's like nothing telling you how to do said chores and you have to intentionally mess them up in some weird way and nothing tells you that and you have to look it up and it makes me really sad :( I don't like this game.
Interesting gameplay and has layers upon layers of lore. The only issue could be the puzzle difficulty and unclear direction of what to do without a guide.
if you like platforming, play something else
Absolutely recommend it Gameplay is pretty fun, very good recreation of the 64 platforming style, and overall aside very few bugs, I was not bothered and managed to keep interest! Now for the bit that's slightly more 'spoiler-ish' (I do not directly state anything relevant to the story) The game immerses you perfectly in the atmosphere it aims in its different points and has overall near flawless quality, a gigantic amount of lore scattered in interesting medias with an ARG, and such great storytelling that it would not directly Tell you what's going on, of course it's an ARG but it will lead you into understanding the concept at the very least, this is a perfect game.
