This game will introduce you to many characters with crazy connections to the point that I didn't know who is who anymore! It started slow as Taryn Sharpe, the protagonist received a phone call from her boss to meet a celebrity chef who will open a new restaurant but of course, things turned upside down and he is dead. Now turning from a journalist to a detective with her friend who I don't know what was his name, they started to move from a place to another to connect the dots and find out who killed the man. Aside from the ridiculous story and strange characters, the game art was good. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1147939121 The hidden objects scenes were strange because you'd pass a clean looking area but whenever you click on it and zoom to the hidden objects scene, it became so cluttery. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1147983904 See that beautiful house, there was a heap of junk in front of it when a hidden object scene decided to show. There were no voice overs which made the game flat due to the lack of a good story too. The fast-traveling map was a must because you can't walk around freely, you just jump from a scene to another depends on what the story needs, so there is no way you wouldn't know what to do, they are holding your hand through all the game till the end which shocked me, I didn't expect it or suspect that would be the case. Pros: +Journal was fine, you can switch between the objectives and notes. +Music is not bad. +Graphics are good and the areas done nicely. Cons: -Short game (You can finish it in an hour and a half) -No voiceovers. -No steam achievements. -Few hidden objects scenes. -Around 4-5 mini-games in the whole game. I enjoyed the art, It was an ok game, however, I can't recommend it to anyone. Try it out if you get it in a bundle, but don't purchase it on its own. I've played many of the PopCap hidden object games and this was a mildly diverting change of pace involving a basic plot, but unfortunately, clicking around the screen randomly appears to be a more successful tactic than actually trying to find the objects, particularly when I couldn't click an object that was supposed to be selectable (the matches for me). It's a functional game, with reasonable graphics & sound assets but there's maybe 90 minutes of gameplay (I was AFK for most of my playtime), which I don't believe is worth the £5.50 I paid. If this was part of a series I might consider recommending a package, if it was cheap, but for the moment, I would say don't buy.
Taryn Sharpe was tasked to interview a chief in Paris and ended up to investigate his murder, along with the photographer George Haske. In the end, well, she will live the adventure of her life! The plot, while interesting, is missing something: good writing. I was bored during all the game because of a love triangle, then, which is in reality more complex, without forgetting the great names that were chosen for the characters (come on, Chou as name?). By the way, why have two characters icons if you can't switch between them? I don't mind list of items on list of items as I'm used to this gameplay but after a moment, when the plot is boring or when you're passing from scene to scene without a lot of search, you're suffering from that. Some items aren't even easy to spot and the rare minigames are too easy. Also, the game is too short too. More or less one hour. For the price, it's too little. I wanted to give the game a chance but in the end, apart the correct graphics, the correct soundtrack, the rest is boring. I'm sorry for the thumb down but I didn't really enjoy the game.
Short version: 51%
Death on the Seine is an interesting little murder mystery wrapped in an old-style hidden object game. It is short and feels cheap at some points, so I can only fully recommend it to HOG enthusiasts who should have quite some fun with it.
Long version:
Despite its 2014 release date, Sharpe Investigations: Death on the Seine plays like a hidden object game from early 2010. Storytelling means paper cut-out pictures having some sort of a dialogue, and gameplay has nothing but hidden object scenes (repeated several times) with the occasional puzzle. In our case, the story is a realistic (non-supernatural) murder mystery, where our titular protagonist journalist duo investigates the death of a famous Parisian chef, rattling a few skeletons in the closet of his friends and family with their snooping Essentially, it plays like an episode of a budget crime drama series in HOG format, where the cheapness also means the game lasts maybe around 90 minutes with a handful of fair and balanced, old-school searching scenes that should suit anyone who likes classic hidden object gameplay.
waste of money as a stand alone game , puzzles are easy ,just not enough content, I know its only $8.00 but I do expect more than a couple of hours play. I agree with tweak maybe as part of a package it might be worth a look but as is save your money
Functional, but not exactly top of the line. Lack of voice work, description of items in hidden-object segments are sometimes vague or downright inaccurate, and object selection areas in hidden-object segments are sometimes inaccurate means the game leaves some things to be desired. Also, primary character, an "investigative reporter", commits felonies left and right, with no consequences; five minutes (or so) into the game, and she's already contaminating a crime scene. 5/10, don't buy at full price, if you get it for around what I did (1.95 USD) it's not as horrible, but I got pretty much what I paid for.
Extremely short and oversimplified mess of an HOG. They introduce so many characters in such a short time and the game ends. I really disliked the fact that they made fun of a guy who died in the first few minutes in a kitchen freezer... a worse way could have been death in a chocolate fountain? WTF is that joke? and right after it they make you pick up red and green apples from around his body WTF??? also the idea of collecting tea and lemons from the trash to give to someone? WTF once again? pros. easy? even though the store is not listing it to have trading cards. it does have some. cons. very short. (almost one hour for the main story) no bonus story no voice acting only one repeating sound track the price overall i do not recommend this game at all. 1/10 for the effort. +1 for the cards 2/10
