7.5 / 10 Created as an expansion to the first game, Dragonfall eventually became its own entry in the series. In my opinion, the biggest improvements this game has over the original are the overall scope, story & companions, with combat being its main downside. - Scope: Game is a lot bigger than the og. Now you have side-missions and optional objectives, great stuff all around. - Story: Objectively speaking this is a better story than the one in Shadowrun Returns. I think most people would agree that
killing a freaking dragon
is more interesting than
avenging the death of a random drunk that you have met for 5 minutes
. However, personally I prefer the story from Shadowrun Returns due to its pacing. Dragonfall's story just feels too 'grand' from the get-go to me. I prefer when cyberpunk stories have more mysteries in them and don't lay everything on you at once. - Companions: This time you have permanent companions with unique skills that progress with you the further you get in the game. These companions also have their own missions most of which are pretty good (Glory's story in particular is amazing). - Combat: Mostly the same as in Shadowrun Returns, not very fun in my opinion. Also, this time around there is TOO much of it. Both Shadowrun Returns & Hong Kong have a lot of situations that allow you to skip combat, and there are not many mandatory fights. In Dragonfall however, there are entire levels focused only on fighting. On highest difficulty, especially, this can be a miserable experience.
it's good

The best story of all the games in the trilogy, and the companions are pretty cool too.
The game itself is alright, but its very buggy and likes to lock your computer up frequently. This can lead to a lot of lost progress since they don't let you save the game whenever you want either. When it hangs, it takes a while just to get task manager up to try to kill it, while the window tries to hide everything including task manager.
I absolutely love these games and I absolutely love Hairbrained Schemes for the content they have made over the years, they are brilliant. I will give the game a thumbs up, but I cannot in god conscience recommend someone buy a game now owned by a publisher who does everything they can to actively destroy their development studios for stupid projects that have nothing to do with those dev teams, strip them apart and leave them hollow husks. This game is Great! So is Battletech, so is Shadowrun Returns. Even still... ♥♥♥♥ Paradox. And I say that as someone who sadly owns most of the major IPs they are driving into the dirt.
Amazing game. Duh.
It's a very good turn based game series set in the shadowrun universe with a rich campaign with multiple runs still valid in 2026 Hope you'll give it a chance
