不如undertale(我还以为是meta,此外人家对每句台词都有负责)。
SELF is a narrative-driven indie adventure developed and published by Merry Fairy that places artistic expression and introspection at the center of the experience. Rather than delivering a conventional story filled with combat, quests, or complex progression systems, it invites players into a symbolic world where every environment, encounter, and visual element contributes to a broader meditation on identity and self-awareness. The game's concept is intentionally abstract, encouraging players to explore not only its mysterious setting but also the emotional and philosophical ideas hidden beneath its surface. It is a title designed for those who appreciate thoughtful storytelling and atmospheric exploration more than traditional gameplay loops. The game's most striking feature is its hand-drawn visual presentation. Every location is illustrated with a distinctive monochromatic style that gives the world an ethereal and dreamlike quality. Instead of relying on vibrant colors or realistic graphics, SELF uses contrast, minimalism, and imaginative imagery to create environments that feel emotionally charged. Each scene appears to have been carefully crafted to reinforce the game's reflective tone, making exploration rewarding even when little is explicitly explained. The artistic direction succeeds in making the game memorable, as every area contributes to the sensation of wandering through a symbolic landscape shaped by thoughts, memories, and emotions. Exploration serves as the foundation of the gameplay. Players move through interconnected environments, interact with objects, and solve light environmental challenges while gradually uncovering fragments of the story. The mechanics are intentionally simple, allowing the focus to remain on atmosphere and interpretation rather than technical complexity. Instead of overwhelming players with objectives or tutorials, the game trusts them to discover its meaning naturally. This slower pace may not satisfy those looking for action or demanding puzzles, but it perfectly complements the game's emphasis on contemplation and discovery. Narratively, SELF excels by refusing to provide straightforward answers. The story unfolds through visual storytelling, environmental symbolism, and subtle interactions instead of lengthy dialogue or cinematic sequences. Themes involving personal identity, emotional growth, isolation, memory, and self-reflection are woven throughout the journey, leaving room for multiple interpretations. Different players may walk away with entirely different understandings of the events they experience, which is one of the game's greatest strengths. Rather than dictating a single message, it encourages individual reflection and discussion long after the adventure has ended. The sound design plays an equally important role in establishing the game's atmosphere. Gentle ambient music and carefully placed environmental sounds create an immersive backdrop that enhances every moment of exploration. The soundtrack avoids becoming intrusive, instead supporting the emotional weight of each scene through subtle melodies and quiet ambience. Periods of silence are used just as effectively as music, allowing players to fully absorb the mood of the world around them. This careful balance between audio and visuals creates a cohesive artistic experience that remains engaging from beginning to end. SELF is not without its limitations. Its deliberate pacing and minimalist gameplay may feel uneventful for players who expect fast progression, challenging mechanics, or clearly defined objectives. The abstract storytelling can also be difficult to connect with for those who prefer direct narratives with concrete explanations. Because so much of the experience depends on interpretation, some players may find the journey deeply meaningful while others may struggle to understand its purpose. Fortunately, these qualities stem from deliberate artistic choices rather than shortcomings in execution, making the game highly successful within the niche it aims to serve. Overall, SELF stands out as an artistic exploration of the human psyche that prioritizes emotion, symbolism, and atmosphere over conventional entertainment. Its unique visual identity, understated audio design, and interpretive storytelling create an experience that rewards patience and thoughtful engagement. While it is unlikely to appeal to every audience, players who enjoy experimental indie adventures and emotionally driven narratives will discover a memorable journey filled with mystery and personal reflection. It confidently embraces its unconventional approach and succeeds in delivering an experience that is both distinctive and thought-provoking. Rating: 7/10
