There is an unskippable cutscene after every single puzzle. Sometimes more than 1; up to 5 at least. The unskippable cutscenes are longer than the puzzles. Their storytelling is pathetic: static "dialogue" in gibberish. No actions, no words, no texts. No idea what it's about. It's so bad that when an achievement pops up, its message is your only pointer into the story. For example, one says "You bought fireworks for the party." I did ? Glad to learn that there's a party. Or not. And not only is all this garbage unskippable, you have to walk manually and sluggishly out of each scene. It's excruciating. I forced myself to play for a while. So what about the puzzles ? Do they redeem the game ? Nope. The mechanics are fine, but the implementation is awful, making the difficulty purely artificial. First you fight with the controls, the selection of the decks, their movement. The movement on slopes is even worse: you can't move laterally, you must climb back up, tentatively move to the next square, then slide back down again. Finally you are stumped by miserable visibility: The isometric perspective doesn't let you know how high things are, how they connect or relate, where you can jump or climb or not. And of course, there's no way to rotate, to get a sense of the layout. Were I a complete misanthrope, I would recommend this game. Instead, I'll tell you where cards fall: on their face, flat.
If there's a story in here somewhere, I can't imagine ever caring to see the rest of it. I miss Blaseball.
Story is boring and is not going anywhere at all. Controls are clunky. Puzzles are alright, but have zero variety, so you just have to use the same couple of tricks to solve them.
Like most puzzle games, you start with a basic skill and once you master that skill, a new skill is added which you must combine with the previous skill to advance to the next level and so forth. In `Where Cards Fall`, you start with the ability to build a basic flat card house. After a few levels, the sloped roof house is introduced followed by the 3-story tall house. Around this time, wind currents are introduced which will topple part of your house. These can be circumvented by the final house type, the steel house. There were definitely some levels where I was stumped and used the built in hint system. I like that the hint system is on a time delay which helps to prevent spoiling the level. I really wish there was a way to skip the cut scenes. They were in a language unintelligible to me and without the achievement system giving some idea of what was going on, wouldn't have told much of a story.
I want to go back to be frustrated only about not being smart enough to solve the puzzles, I lost count of how many times my character went to the wrong place resetting the whole puzzle for me, how many times it dropped or jumped to somewhere else because someone had the "brilliant" (sarcasm) idea of using the same button (left mouse button) to move the character AND to move the cards, have you forgot that there are more than 2 buttons on a mouse? And don't worry, I tried the other movement options (using WASD and using a controller), it is not much better, you will still be asking yourself "WHY?! The puzzles are excellent, the art is amazing... WHY YOU HAD TO DO THIS?!"
Puzzles were not terrible, definitely not what I thought from videos. The story if there is a story is awful. Far too detached with poor conveyance of how the events matter in the grander scheme and complete detachment of the characters. Starting out with who is who to why do I care about them to indifference and finally disdain. The main grip I had and why I ultimately stopped playing was the awful controls. They are poorly mapped. Overuse of the same buttons when there are plenty to go around like it was built for the NES. The character is also poorly designed in how the player controls them with sluggish and unresponsive being the nicest way to describe the issue. The lower price made the pill that much better to swallow with an unfinished game.
The puzzle part of this puzzle game is marred by bad controls and lengthy cutscenes that tell a weak story. The puzzles progressed too slowly in difficulty and variety, which made it feel even slower with each cutscene between each puzzle
