Lustiges buntes Match- 3 Spiel. Easy 100% :-)

Vicky Potter und der Fluch der Kobolde
Secrets of Magic: The Book of Spells ist ein Match 3 Spiel. A short description to me is always the best for what concerns indie games - here we have an Italian translation too, and basically it asks us to be part of this magical world, taking the role of the witch Victoria and delve deep into this magical match-3 puzzle world! Let us stay serious though. The Italian translation here has done something extremely interesting and unique.. apart from having only four points in the Steam store page (that are quite different from the English points, which actually are a six-rows list and talk about totally different things), and tons of other errors and typos, uses a weird word: "avventura filotto", "sfide filotto". I have gone through the English page from top to bottom and the Italian translation is so different that I couldn't find where they took that word from - of course, "avventura" stands for "adventure" and "sfida" for "challenge" (if you're an English speaker you would find a root in "to defy").. but.. "filotto"? It's a strange word that we use rarely in Italian and I thought that it was not so grammatically correct, I mean, it stands for something like "streak" and it's almost only used in sports talk, so I always thought of it as a colloquial word.. the correct translation is "an unbroken sequence of wins" (and according to en.wiktionary it has also a billiard meaning too), but.. I can't really get where they took that word from. It happens to be a new Italian word, coined in the '50s.. well, let's go back to the game.. It's targeted mainly to kids, and it's a joy to play it with your family. You can choose a relaxed mode (with unlimited moves) or a more challenging one. The story as I said is quite nice, it deals with witchcraft and love and everything's colorful, the soundtrack is nice too and overall it's a really well-realized game. And the game itself is a match-3 game with a classic flavour, and some twists. You'll have to match similar icons (all Halloween/magic-themed) in order to make potions fall, and the left side of the screen will tell you everything about remaining moves, goals and coins collected. Bonuses will be created by matching 4 or more icons, and overall the game flows fast and gets entertaining quickly, as I said, for all the family given its light-hearted approach. Collecting coins and other special items will be useful in order to craft spells, and so on. If you like match-3 games, this one's really good to me. I'd recommend it especially to puzzle lovers and families with kids who like puzzles!
I thought I wrote a review, but I didn't. A match 3 game. Perhaps because it started from Part 2, there are a lot of inconvenient things and the game is somewhat slow. If you have to do one of the two, I recommend part 2, but since the platform is short, if you're a achievement hunter, you'll probably end up doing part 1 as well. For reference, there are no achievements in Parts 3 and 4, and Part 5 is a profile restriction function.
secrets of magic: the book of spells is the first in a series of spooky match-3 games, and while it doesn't do anything new, it's much better than average, and I can only hope the developers didn't mess things up in later entries either. victoria is an orphan, doesn't know what happened to her parents, but weird things happen around her all the time, so she has an inkling that she's different from other people. one day she gets a letter from her aunt wendy, who'd like to meet victoria and dish about her parents. our girl is truly magical, she can do a full makeover in 2 seconds. gotta make an effort, put on some make-up, do the hair and wear something risque for wendy and potential horrible family secrets. turns out, her folks were kidnapped by an evil witch named agnes, but hey, they're still alive and wendy can help her train to be a functional witch. and that's pretty much the entire story of the first game, getting prepared to face the bad witch. a bit disappointing, to be honest. not that anybody plays these for the nailbiting narrative. 100 levels, relaxed and challenge modes, the latter has a move limit and can be changed anytime. there's a 3-star rating based on points, doesn't do anything though. I love that moving the cursor over that area reveals how many more points you need for each star, and there's an actual progress bar there as well. no visible timer, but completion time is shown on the level complete screen. matches can be made while things are happening on the board and matching 4 or more of the same thing creates power-ups, even if they're matched while cascading. bombs clear the whole line in all 4 directions, pretty cool compared to some other games, vials clear things in an 'x' shape, and fireworks destroy a line in one direction. the book of spells contains 30 spells, 6 of which provide power-ups, another improves their recharge rate, and the rest is just for the story. these don't recharge between levels, but can be upgraded twice with coins and are used to destroy a single tile, spiderweb or wooden or stone obstacle, the whirlwind shuffles half the board and lightning destroys half the tiles of the same type. upgraded versions are more effective, and in case of the torch, it can get rid of spiders that periodically throw spiderwebs onto the board and are as annoying as you can imagine. just like imps that multiply each turn, the local equivalents of water, chocolate or lava spreading around in other games. they can be destroyed by matching stuff near them, or with the stake, but while running out of matches auto-shuffles the board, if you don't deal with the imp situation and they overtake everything, the level is lost. it only happened to me twice though. main goals involve matching or destroying a certain number of something and bringing spell ingredients down to the bottom, which I truly hate in match-3 games. collecting coins isn't necessary to finish a level, but since they're used for upgrades (and buying extra moves in challenge mode if you run out), it's worth matching until they're all collected, but keep an eye on the goals (and the score if you want 3 stars), as fulfilling them ends the level. they can be replayed anytime but coins can't be farmed, only uncollected ones will appear next time. it'd be handy if levels with leftover coins were marked, to know where to get more money, though there's more than enough. very nice cartoony presentation with a halloween vibe, tilesets are relatively varied as well, you won't see the same 4 or 5 things on every level. separate volume settings, windowed mode toggle for a resizable window and optional help, plus in-game representation of achievements. an enjoyable experience overall (without the move limit anyway), except for a bug: if you click ok on the level complete screen before all the stars appear, you'll only get as many as you could see, so better wait a few seconds. and sometimes music changes quite abruptly, but that's not a huge deal and the soundtrack itself is surprisingly good too.
Hardware : i7 7700K OC@5Ghz, Nvidia 1080GTX, 32GB ram. Screens : Dualscreen, 1x 4K & 1x 1920x1200, un seul screen X.
I wasn't expecting to make a review of this game, but I do actually have a few things to say. First of all, this game is intended for children, and anyone above the age of 8 won't be very interested in the characters or story. In short, it's about a girl that finds out shes a witch, and she learns alot of spells. So remove the story element and you are left with a match-3 game. So does that hold up? Yes and no. The game has some fun mechaincs like imps that multiply, blocks of stone you need to break and spiders that will web tiles. There are 3 powerups you get for making matches with 4 or 5 instead of 3, and you have 6 abilities you can activate to help you. The game does a good job at explaining the different obsicles, but there are a few things it never explains. For example, you can move a powerup to a different tile to use it more strategic, but this does NOT cost a turn for some reason. There is an amazing total of 100 levels to beat, and you can get up to 3 stars on each level, but the way the game gives out stars is ridiculous. When you have completed you goal for the map, each turn you have left becomes a powerup that goes somewhere randomly on the field. Then all of the powerups gets used at the same time and you get a decent amount of points for that, which is fine, however.. The problem is that if you play really strategic and beat the map really fast with alot of turns left, you won't have gotten enough points during play to reach 3 stars. So what you have to do is to spend every single turn to get as many points as you can before you beat it. This is a backwards system that would be fixed by instead giving the player points for each unspent turn at the end. With that rant out the way, let's just do a TLDR pros and cons. +PROS+ +100 levels. +Looks alright visually. +Charming. +Very child-friendly. +Music is nice. +All achievements are easily obtainable. +Fun game mechanics. -CONS- -Backwards point system. -Uninteresting story and characters. -Some mechanics are never explained. -Coins serve no purpose after you buy all your upgrades. -It can be way too easy at times. -Probably not worth full price. If you are too pure for Huniepop (which sits at the same price as this game btw), I guess this is a great option.
Follow our Curator Group for more reviews
Secrets of Magic: The Book of Spells is a match 3 game that is pretty standard for the genre. In general, the match 3 genre is stale and formulaic, but there are some games that stand out from the crowd. Unfortunately, Secrets of Magic isn't one of those, instead relying on the same boring mechanics that 99% of match 3 games use. After playing the first level, you've essentially played the whole game. Some minor things change between levels, but overall, it's a mind numbing slog to get through the game. It isn't shockingly bad or anything like that, there just isn't much reason to play this when better versions of this are available. Maybe huge fans of the genre could enjoy this, but I personally doubt that. The average steam user won't enjoy this, primarily due to the repetitiveness and the unoriginal gameplay. 2/10
Visit our website for more in-depth reviews and recommendations
