Do you like Match 3 games? Do you like farming games? Well then "Hope's Farm" is a match made in heaven for you! This game combines the normal match 3 gameplay and adds lite farming that you have to do before you can go onto the next match 3 round. The items that you are matching are part of an "order" the farm has received. Like person A wants 45 tomatoes, person B wants 50 cucumbers, person C wants 4 cartons of milk. In the beginning you have only a couple crops and a fruit tree. Click on the tomato patch and a water bucket appears, drag that over the field to water it. In a few seconds the crop will grow. To harvest it, just hover your mouse over the crop and a sickle appears, drag that over it to harvest the crop. Harvested crops go into Storage and you only have so much room so don't get carried away stocking up on corn. Once your "order" match 3 game has been successfully played you get star points. Once you have enough star points you get an upgrade such as more crops and eventually chickens, cows, pigs, and sheep. When you run out of water from watering your crops you play the water game. In one corner of the board is a icon with water beneath it, similar to the game The Four Elements. The rest of the board has got a dirt background that you dig away by matching over it. At the bottom of the screen is a Well. Make a path from the water to the well to finish. The match 3 game part has the typical bonus items that you get from matching four in a row or five in a row. In this game you get a firecracker that eliminates things in a cross (up, down, left, right) around the firecracker. Match 5 to get a bomb that eliminates a square 3x3 blocks. In addition to those are three bonus items you can use at any time: a shovel that will remove one square, (I'm having brain fog and can't remember the second one), and thirdly a Lightning Bolt that will remove all of the same item like all the corn disappears. You can use those any time but they are limited in number initially and can be purchased by some form of currency (blue stars?) that you only have so much of and get more by completing levels. The graphics are cutesy and bright. The background music sound like old time folk music with banjos and harmonicas. It's pleasant and has a down home feel to it. Price seems reasonable for this genre. I bought it on sale. I'd say this is one of the good ones in the genre, as long as you like the farming aspect because you will be doing a lot of it. If you don't care for farming you might find that part tedious. I have not completed the game yet and wonder what happens at the end once you have all the crops and animals. I can see the urge to play the game again from the beginning once one has finished, so there may be replay value. Total time to finish all 100 order (levels) is about 11 hours. Not bad.

It looks like this was either intended to be a free to play game or is a port of a free to play game. It has gems (which you can use to buy more moves or power ups) which you earn at a much slower rate then you would expect to use the power ups or buying more moves. I stopped when I got to the level where twice it wasn't possible to beat in the number of moves given without buying power ups since half the board was locked with no matches and I wasn't getting the drops to unlock it. It is like playing a free to play game without the constant in your face requests to buy more gems, and being stuck without the ability to buy more gems. While I'm fine dealing with this on a free to play game it is not acceptable on a $10 game.
Hope's Farm is a match-3/SIM hybrid. The difficulty choices are nice, giving you the option to play timed and/or a limited of moves, or without any restrictions. Fill orders (via match-3) to earn money to buy more crops/decorations for your farm. Crops grow at an incredibly fast rate, meaning that you really don't have to put too much thought into the timing portion. The planning part comes from what you decide to harvest. Your storage can only hold so much, and when it's full, you either have to sell it or "delete" it in 25-item increments. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3040455786 There is an order board with requests, and you can't fill the order (by playing the match-3 portion) until you have all of the listed items, so if you harvested too much of something, you'll have to delete some in order to grab the crops you need. You'll usually have 5+ orders to choose from, so that helps. In addition to the order board, you have a BOOK with quests in it. Quests can be things like:

Buy one chicken coop
Sell 20 eggs
Decorate your farm with a scarecrow
Water 6 sunflowers
Upon completion of quests, you will earn money, gems (used to purchase power-ups in the M3 portion) and experience. Going up levels unlocks more items you can buy and more quests. NOTE RE: BOOK QUESTS - You have to go into the book CLAIM your rewards. It doesn't happen automatically. Match-3: The M3 portion of the game is nicely-polished and fun to play. The aforementioned power-ups that you can buy with your gems are represented by a trowel (remove one piece), a cyclone (shuffle) and lightning (removed all of one type of tile). I didn't need to use these at all, since the bombs for making 4+ matches were sufficient help. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3040455988 Gems can also be used to extend the amount of time on the clock and/or add a number of moves, if you're playing in that mode. Customers are on the left side of the screen, and when their orders are all filled, the level will end. Some of these things are gained by simple matching, others will need to be brought to the bottom of the screen before they can be sold. When you're low on water, you'll play a match-3 round to clear a path for the water to reach the well. This works... err... Well! SIM: Click on a field once to bring up the pic of a scythe, which you can then drag around to harvest everything in sight (if you so choose). Same for watering, only you'll see a water bucket. Good in theory, and I liked the ease of harvesting/watering, except that it's really easy to accidentally click in the wrong place if you have things close together. Decorating/purchasing really could have used some tweaking. Open the store, click on the item and DRAG it onto the screen where you want to place it. It was counter-intuitive for me, and I kept accidentally either closing the store or placing things where I didn't want them. You can move them, but it's kind of clicky to do so. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3040455576 Speaking of which, if you're placing multiple items, you have to do the entire process for each item. Open store, drag and drop where you want it, then start over. This is really tedious when you're trying to place a path! You have a limited amount of items you can purchase (ie. 4 coconut trees, two duck ponds), so managing money isn't something you'll need to worry about. Verdict: This is a fun match-3/SIM hybrid with 100 levels (orders) and many quests to complete. I really enjoyed the match-3 portion, and the SIM part is good, but could have been a little better-optimized. I really like that once all of the orders have been completed, you can replay any of them, meaning that you can keep playing indefinitely. There were some missed opportunities that could have made this game an absolute must-have, but in its current state, I'd say that it's pretty addictive and a nice way to pass the time.
I’ve been remiss (OK very lazy) in not reviewing any of Green Sauce Games’ match 3 games until now. I can think of only one other developer that as well as having fun VG games, you can 100% all of them with no timers. This developer gives you a choice in their games (like most of them) to play on timed, relaxed or number of moves and on top of that you can play on casual or expert. As with most (if not all) of their other games, I love that you can change modes as often as you like, even from within a level. So, no need to panic if you wished you’d never started a game on a certain mode. This is my favourite game from this developer. Sadly, it’s one of their few games without any steam achievements and so a lot of people are missing out on a lovely gem of a game. Plea to the dev, add some steam achievements and your sales will go up. It’s about 60%(?) M3 and the rest is a resource management game. This is NOT a TM farming game as all is very relaxed and nothing is timed. It’s a very simple farming game, and if you have never tried that type of game before, then this is the perfect one to see if you like it. It breaks up the M3 and I like the variety of both types of gameplay, as well as decorating a farm. It has optional quests in your journal like plant, harvest and sell certain amount of crops. These give you even more gems which you can then use to ‘buy’ more moves at end of level or certain type of powerups in your M3 game (exactly like Storm Tale but unlike that game there does seem quite a lot of gems and all levels here can be finished without them). I tend not to use them but use the other type of powerups which you make by creating different matches on the board. Tech stuff In game options – sliders for both sound and music. Windowed/full screen. Cursor, match hint, tutorial all on or off. Game mode – timed, relaxed or challenge. Game difficulty – expert or casual. The dizzying amount of options, a fun blended game, makes not only this game an easy one to recommend but any of this developer’s games. Especially if you hate timers but still like to 100% games. I was a bit skeptical on this one at first. Still, Green Sauce Games makes killer casual games. So, I decided to give this one a whirl. It's a Match 3 game with all of the Match 3 standard fare that we've come to know and love (powerups, cascades, obstacles, progressive difficulty, etc). HOWEVER, it's stuffed under a sort of simple enough resource management game. Yeah, I know, right? So, the levels are a collection of produce orders. One order/level is 3+ people that each want a specific item. The items are on the board, and they are matched in varying quantities. Not every item on the board is needed, so you work around those and only match them to get them out of the way. Some items are needed to be dropped to the bottom of the board. The standard stuff just presented in a different way. Very cool. Now it seems simple enough at first, and I thought after the first three levels ... that's it?! Well, there's more. There's the resource management side of it. You need to have the number of items people need in the order/level. That means you have to use your farm to make them. Okay, that should be simple. If you need corn, you use money to plant a corn, water it, harvest it, and it goes in the barn. Do this until the order/level for corn says you have enough. Repeat for carrots, etc. When you have all of the order/level requirements, you get to play the Match 3 level. But there's more. The barn only holds so much, so you have to be careful how much you harvest and of what. You can always discard stuff if you need to. However, as orders/levels progress, you will need to add fields for them. Make sure to leave space for them. Water is gathered through a separate Match 3 game where you clear the path between the water and the well. You will also create a chicken coop to raise chickens. These chickens create eggs that can be harvested for order/level requirements. These eggs are dropped to the bottom of the Match 3 board to collect. There are upgrades, you have experience levels, you collect coins to buy stuff, etc. There is a difficulty selection and moves/timed/neither selection. A refreshingly different yet similar Match 3 game!
horrible .. the controls are terrible and buggy
it's a nice match 3 game with cute farming elements.
