Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.

It's good but not finished yet so just keep that in mind. What's here is really fun already though. If you like visual novels with a million choices and routes this is a good one to pick up.
I LOVE this game so much, it's a lot of fun to just play it and stream it to my friend. I'm still exploring all the traits and different ways to behave, and it keeps revealing new things about my different MCs' places in the world every time. You could think everyone likes you, but then you get through another playthrough and you realize how doomed your previous playthrough was. Or you can go and try to make everyone hate you instead. Not that I'd recommend *that* on your first playthrough, but you definitely can. Big recommend to people who like VNs and games where you watch and see how a bunch of different things interconnect and play out. It's a mystery where I'm still not sure how much of the picture I'm really seeing, even on my fourth playthrough. (Possibly because I've skipped out on a climatic moment up until this one, but I'd probably still have plenty questions left to ask even if I'd done it in all my playthroughs.) Gradually telling all my friends to get this game.
One of the best, the most complex stories I've ever seen
I couldn't wait for the full release of the game and I played the 5 chapters in a single day, maybe I should've waited though but it's alright I really enjoyed this VN, it's super well written and choices DO matter which is something rare nowadays. Can't wait for chapter 6 and 7
This is the first linear narrative game I've ever played where the choices actually feel like they matter and genuinely change the story. Main characters can die, actions have consequences that sometimes aren't evident until chapters later, your choices/relationships can change everything from what dialog options you're given down the line to major story beats. It's really is an expansive, branching narrative that I doubt you'd even see a quarter of in a single playthrough. I've never seen traits/skills in a game like this before either; they add so much flair to each playthrough and help to make your character feel like *your character* and not just a bland POV character made to be a generic player surrogate and nothing more. They also change what options are available to you based on your strengths, which adds to the branching paths and also makes it feel more immersive. I really can't describe how fun, unique, tense, and captivating this game is. For as much time and effort has gone into this game & how fun/easy it is to sink time into it, it's worth well more than what they're charging. If nothing else, it should tell you something that the game isn't even finished and I already have almost 100hrs sunk into it. It truly is a one-of-a-kind experience with levels of branching paths, character interactions, and storytelling that's largely unheard of within the genre.
This game is amazing. I love the story and the characters. It really does feel like your choices actually matter. I was up until 3am during my first playthrough, because I had to know what would happen. It's fun to replay multiple times to see different outcomes. This is my favorite VN game of all time.
goated game btw
After playing the demo, I waited with bated breath for the next chapters. After playing up to Chapter 5, the need to conclude a story who escapes its bounds as some sinuous, growing, live thing knaws at the recesses of my brain. It pulls at me, destiny waiting to happen. Steps will find their way to their proper places, a play with scripts written long ago. A small town, with secrets within secrets, with paths within paths. A jigsaw of memories who seem ajar but stand together, beautifully. Arm yourself with the best of you. Pry away fervently, or don't. The threads are there regardless. Your blood awaits. Welcome home.
this game is so good no review i write will ever do it justice. go play it RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!
I ADORE this Game. I am always on the search for games in which your choices REALLY matter. And what can I say this game blew me off my socks. I played a few playthroughs to the end and yet still find new endings and choices. I also like the different characteristics you can choose from WHICH ALSO IMPACT YOUR GAMEPLAY, like excuse me?!?! Another thing which this game does amazing is the diversity of achievements. As a achievement enjoyer this is heaven :) Even my boyfriend, who isn´t into visual novels at all found it interesting to watch me. It is an amazing mix of horror and yet kinda comfy. I ADORE Tabhitha and i really want to learn more abour her and her past and all of that!
