A 2D action/platforming adventure with a healthy dose of RPG elements set in the hostile world of Lor, a classic sword and sorcery setting. The slave-hungry Argeshii empire dominates the known world, old and false gods conspire; brutal combat is the only means of survival!

Quite an interesting game! Its like a mixture of an RPG and metroidvania. One walks, platforms and fights on 2D side-scrolling maps. You can backtrack, talk to NPCs. The first part of the game is prison escape, and then the game opens: there's an overworld map with interest points, there are random encounters, there's node mining (wood and ore so far), there's crafting... The negative point is - game is still in development, it barely explains anything about its own systems. There are level ups where you can distribute a point to one of your three main stats, and equipment is stat-gated, but there are more systems at play - as you use weapons and shields, you gain mastery, and then this sometimes seem to unlock special abilities (for example, mastering a pickaxe allows you to break a secret wall with any blunt weapon), but it isn't clear at all which weapons have these, and how does one acquire them. Updates keep on happening tho, so if developer doesn't give up - this'll be one quite nice game!
Just updated! Loot, craft, cook, forge, and crush your enemies, drive them before you, and hear the lamentations of their women! The 2D Conan game you never knew you wanted or maybe you did... -Open world -Awesome music -Great pixel art -Leveling -Bosses -Loot -Quest -Great dynamic combat, a lot of great animations GET IT! The DEV has sunk over 10000 hours alone making this. A lot of love is in this game.
4/10
There's a lot of layers to this game and it's developer, it's a game made by someone who grew up playing the classics and wanted to make an honest effort at making a game that would pass on the magic that the 'golden age' gamers felt.. If the game succeeded in that some may debate, but it was a game started when steam was still an 'honest' place for game development, before it descended into trash shovel-ware specially designed to maximize profits with minimal effort.. I haven't even played it enough to honestly give it an up or down vote, but I'll definitely leave it an up for the honest effort the dev put into it.. (He's also a good musician, really good, he's a great example of the well-rounded cool kinds of people the 90s produced..) In the future I'll try to update this review about the actual game and gameplay.. (Also, check out the series 'Age of Barbarian' and the Criansoft developer, he's a guy that does 'Barbarian' type games, the type that used ot be common in gaming, and now are almost extinct.. )
Looks nice, but I have a felling that it won't come out until 2030 or something like that
Where's the game? I thought I paid for a game or something
Might be good but I'll never know. Had the game crash after only playing for 15 minutes and it appears like it's abandoned by the developer. Oh well!
Great game, pretty funny, but it needs a LOT, I mean a LOT of improvement.
As far as I can tell the game has been abandoned, hope you are doing well Tobor. EDIT: There has been an update so I am updating the review accordingly.
SAVAGE: The Shard of Gosen — Worth Another 100 Hours One man built this game. Matt Fitzgerald (Planet Tobor) has poured over 10,000 hours into SAVAGE — design, code, pixel art, chiptune soundtrack, all of it. You can feel that obsession in every frame, and it's why I'd happily sink another hundred hours into it without blinking. It's a 2D action-platformer with RPG bite, set in the dying world of Lor. Your barbarian wakes up beaten, bloody, and hungry for revenge against the slave-hungry Argeshii empire and its warlord Aben Bael. That's the pitch. That's all you need. The combat is filthy in the best way. Dodge-roll under arrows. Raise your shield overhead, then bash a brute in the teeth with it. Parry, riposte, stun-stomp. Hoist an enemy above your head and chuck them onto spikes — which then becomes a platform you walk across. Stomp impaled corpses deeper onto the spikes. Yes, that's a feature. Yes, players asked for it. Over 34 weapons and shields, each leveling up on its own and unlocking perks as you master them. Three stats — Might, Resolve, Favor — let you build a brick wall, a glass cannon, or a rooftop dagger lunatic. Reforge gear with ore. Bless it at carvings of forgotten gods. The lands of Gosen sprawl across forests, frozen peaks, red steppes, and deadly swamps, with a day/night cycle and seasons dictating what quests open and what crawls out to meet you. The pixel art looks like an '80s paperback come to life. The chiptune score sounds like an NES cartridge possessed by a thrash demon. Every patch adds something — Fitzgerald reads the Discord and ships the feedback. This isn't polished in the corporate sense. It's forged. If Zelda II and Castlevania raised you and you've been waiting for someone to build something brutal and modern on those bones, this is the game. Buy it. Play it. I'll see you in Gosen — bring a shield, a sword, and your worst instincts.
