This game is amazing. From the gameplay to the lore, this game is for casual and hardcore gamers alike. The lore is extremely rich and deep and it will keep you invested. I recommend this to anyone.
overall alright for in between.
This plays like a free prelude to a larger game, except it is $10 and the actual game was never made. Overall, CAT Interstellar is not a bad way to spend an hour, but it is not worth the money. I observed multiple visual glitches, had sound disappear after re-loading a chapter, and even crashed to desktop once trying to talk to an android. Game mechanics are not utilized fully and you basically just do the same thing throughout the game. The story does not make much sense either. I am still wondering what the cat had to do with any of it.
This walking sim was a very short experience, however this is stated in the description, so I wasn't expecting much more than about 45 minutes. While the game an interesting experience, with decent graphics, it's odd in its start and finish. The game has no main menu whatsoever, I was so confused when it started and I was immediately in the game, I restarted twice, thinking I had a glitch. The first chapter chops immediately from you being an android to a drone which was quite sudden and confusing. The game itself was nice, it had little objectives and such which made it feel less like an experience and more like a game. The last chapter before the credits was very very confusing, one moment you're a drone getting away from a tunnel collapse, the next you're a cat? It's a very sudden change that leaves you puzzled, and that portion of the game is extremely dark and I could barely see, let alone figure out where I was supposed to go. Eventually I got to the next point, and the game faded to black. The final credit scene was cute, however you're back as an android, again a jarring change in perspective. Wandering through the ship was nice, then you come to a spot where it suddenly becomes unbearably noisy and then "Thanks for Playing" and the game just quits. Again I restarted the game thinking it had crashed, but no, that is the intended design. Interesting story for sure, but averagely executed, no main menu, and abrupt changes in perspective. I'd give it a 4/10, however if I had paid full price for this I would've very disappointed with what I received.
"CAT Interstellar" promises an intriguing premise but falls short in execution. Despite the description's mention of an hour-long gameplay, the experience feels rushed and lacking in depth. Playing as a maintenance bot on Mars sounds promising, but the gameplay fails to deliver any significant engagement or challenge. The narrative, while attempting to uncover the planet's past, feels disjointed and fails to evoke any real sense of intrigue or suspense. Overall, "CAT Interstellar" disappoints with its short duration, shallow gameplay, and unfulfilled narrative potential.
I'm not really sure if CAT Interstellar is an asset flip. Some elements of this game certainly make it seem like the developer put some effort into assembling some kind of original here. On the other hand, a lot of the game assets don't seem like they were created by the developer, but they haven't credited any asset creators for supplying assets, which might be a case of plagiarism. There's no evidence, so we need to give the benefit of the doubt... regardless, asset flip or not, the quality here is indistinguishable from many asset flip/cash grab scams, and that's a problem in itself. So, it's unclear how much of this is stolen assets... how much of it is a game? Not much! CAT Interstellar is more of a disastrously badly made walking sim... and get this, yeah, the "developer" couldn't even come up with their own story idea and ripped off Heinlein. Considering how much of this seems ripped off other people, we have to wonder if the developer did any work at all here. But wow, the price tag.... Anyway, importantly, this is short, and bad. It looks promising. The only guarantee here is that you'll have a bad time. There's little interaction, there's little story. The developer already re-hashed this and is trying to sell it twice, and it's not even what you could call a complete game. The more I look at this the more it seems like a scam. And the developers only other game of note is... a backrooms asset-flip-looking trainwreck... seems sus. Stealing other people's ideas... and presumably a backrooms asset pack? (Yeah it's so popular the asset stores have complete packs for making backrooms jumpscare games)... this deal is getting worse all the time. From my experience with the game, it's somewhat bug riddled and has design/implementation/stability problems that will render this unplayable for many gamers. The game controls essentially didn't work, maybe 10% of the time the "w" forwards key would actually propel me forward, other times I just had to crawl slowly to the left or right to move... this is a bug riddled train wreck. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 120,000+ games on Steam? CAT Interstellar has the laughable price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you real, completed, and ethically made games like "Prey", "The Elder Scrolls Online" or "Pillars of Eternity II". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
CAT Interstellar, developed and published by Ionized Games, is a compact yet atmospheric first-person adventure that plunges players into the role of DOG-VI, an autonomous maintenance drone assigned to assist with the terraforming efforts on Mars. From the moment you begin, the game establishes a quiet, contemplative mood as you explore desolate landscapes and uncover fragmented clues about the planet’s past. The experience is deliberately minimalistic, focusing on narrative and environmental storytelling rather than complex mechanics or action, which creates a unique space for reflection within the sci-fi genre. The story of CAT Interstellar is deeply inspired by classic sci-fi literature, particularly Robert Heinlein's The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, weaving in themes of rebellion, awakening, and existential questioning. As DOG-VI traverses the red planet, the game gradually reveals a mystery behind the terraforming project that challenges initial assumptions. While the narrative is rich in potential and loaded with philosophical undertones, the game’s brevity can feel both like a strength and a weakness. On one hand, its short runtime keeps the experience tight and focused, but on the other, it leaves many threads unresolved, potentially leaving players wanting more depth and closure. The story’s open-ended nature suggests a larger arc, but as of now, the game stands as a tantalizing glimpse rather than a full exploration of its intriguing premise. Visually, CAT Interstellar utilizes a minimalist yet effective aesthetic that emphasizes the barren beauty of the Martian environment. The game’s design favors clean lines and sparse details, which enhances the feeling of isolation and vast emptiness. This visual style complements the narrative’s introspective tone, drawing players into an alien world that feels both foreign and hauntingly familiar. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, the game runs smoothly even on mid-range or older hardware, ensuring accessibility without sacrificing atmosphere. The environments, though simple, are thoughtfully crafted to support exploration and to subtly guide players toward the story’s revelations. Gameplay revolves primarily around exploration and environmental interaction, with a handful of simple puzzles scattered throughout the terrain. The controls are intuitive, designed to keep the player’s focus on uncovering the story rather than mastering complex systems. This stripped-down approach to gameplay suits the game's reflective pace, but it may leave those seeking more dynamic or varied challenges wanting. The lack of combat or traditional action elements makes the experience more about atmosphere and discovery, inviting players to immerse themselves in the mood and mystery rather than adrenaline-fueled excitement. The audio design further enhances this immersion, with a soundtrack that favors ambient soundscapes over overt melodies. The subtle environmental sounds—wind blowing across rocky plains, the hum of machinery in the distance—work in tandem with the visual design to evoke a strong sense of place and solitude. While the game does not feature voice acting, it relies heavily on environmental storytelling and data logs to convey its narrative. This method encourages players to piece together the story actively, fostering a deeper connection with the world and its secrets. In sum, CAT Interstellar is a focused, atmospheric journey that prioritizes story and setting over traditional gameplay complexity. Its strengths lie in its mood, minimalist design, and thought-provoking narrative inspired by classic sci-fi themes. However, its short length and lack of gameplay variety may limit its appeal for some players. For those willing to embrace a slower, more contemplative experience, CAT Interstellar offers a memorable, if brief, exploration of mystery and identity on an alien world, setting the stage for potential future expansions that could further develop its intriguing concepts. Rating: 7/10
CAT Interstellar is a game primarily set in space on the planet Mars. You play as a drone called DOG, working alongside your drone superiors, completing tasks at the base of operations. However, when things go awry down in the mines, it is up to you to figure a way out of the mess. The gameplay is fun, I enjoyed the movement and how fun it was to traverse through the world the game created, it felt very atmospheric with all the drones and androids working together to make Mars a more suitable place to continue their work. My favourite part was definitely some of the destructible environment, even if it was slightly buggy. I also wish that the characters' dialogue didn't end abruptly if you moved too far away, but I guess I have myself to blame for not waiting and listening. The music, though subtle, also added to the atmosphere and futuristic vibe. I can't really speak on the plot as it got rather confusing towards the end, but I will say it was certainly interesting. Overall, a fun game, though, I do recommend getting it whilst it's on sale! I will certainly get chapter two once it releases!
