Built on the SCUMM engine and one of LucasArts’ first fully voice‑acted adventures, it still feels alive thanks to the iMUSE music system and Bill Farmer’s iconic performance as Sam. Highlights: - Comedy that hits harder than it has any right to. - Voice acting that defined the duo for decades. - A cross‑country tour of America’s weirdest attractions. - Puzzles that bounce between clever and cartoon‑logic chaos. Cons: - A couple puzzles and minigames show their age. - The humor is aggressively 90s — which you’ll either love or fear. 10/10. A hilarious, stylish, technically impressive classic that still earns its cult status.

I remember Sam and Max from when I was a very small boy. At the time, a lot of the humor missed me. Playing the game again as an adult with the wife was a good laugh. We ended up downloading all the Sam and Max games and have been slowly going through them. The comedy, art style, and themes are are outstanding. I love this one and really miss the classic adventure game genre.

This game is the bomb! Literally it is so expressive, so well made, Sam & Max are a timeless duo, you will be smiling the whole way through the game. The only downside for me is that I wanted to screenshot everything, if that counts as one.

I'm in my mid 50s and my dad owned Sam & Max back when it was released. I am a huge Lucasarts game fan, with the Monkey Island series representing an important part of my childhood, which I have since shared with my own kids. I know about Sam & Max, I tried playing the game as a kid. I've played Poker Night at the Inventory and was involved with all the lore there, with the related games and TV shows. Having said all this, I really cannot recommend this game. While Monkey Island, Fate of Atlantis, Day of the Tentacle, all remains amazingly fun and playable in 2026... I feel that Sam & Max is absolutely the weakest game. I mean, I've even played LOOM, which I kind of hated. Sam & Max Hit the Road is borderline non-sensical, with the thinnest of stories that is not well communicated. The jokes are not funny, and very few of the puzzles make any sense, and the "clues", when there are any, are ridiculously vague. Retrieving the mood ring is like a massive time-out punishment. There is no logical flow, and the solution is maddening and random. If you are replaying "the childhood games that you missed" with your adult kids, like I am.... do yourself a favor and skip this one. You can burn through it with a walkthrough, but it doesn't even make any sense if you do that. It's not worth your time. Go play Fate of Atlantis or any Monkey Island (except #4) instead.
