This game is phenomenal! I love the Metroid meets Guacamelee style and the great lore. There's a lot of good story, mostly listened/ read but I'm a huge fan of the MegaMan franchise so this is a new favorite of mine.
Between the Yakuza games and Promise Mascot Agency, I was kind of teed up to expect a good time for anything featuring Takaya Kuroda on the voice cast and... well this mostly gets there. I love the visual style and the fuzziness of the rabbit cast, and how their cosmology has somehow gotten entwined with the Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit classics. The search action itself is okay, though it can get a little tedious drilling through every last block after a while, a problem alleviated once you get some more mobility upgrades by progressing the story. The visual variety of the different areas is nice, especially later in the game, and the difficulty doesn't spike too aggressively so long as you're paying attention to your upgrades and your additional equipment. On the whole, I had a good time, and the way the story shook out through the DTAM terminals you find was cute. That's not to say the game is lacking issues, however. Here are my few complaints/caveats. - If you want the good stuff, it's gonna be a grind. Getting materials, especially for higher-end weaponry, is gonna take some trips to the Random Dungeons, though that thankfully comes with other rewards as you get deeper and deeper. Particularly annoying is that a handful of items (Excavators and a couple Plasma ______ things) are found only on one flavor of stage you don't unlock until one of the last main stages (the yellow scifi industrial looking one), and only starting from level 81 or later of 100, without any guarantee that level type is gonna show up on your run. - The blueprints for said "good stuff" mostly don't even show up until fairly late in the game, some of which weapon-wise you're gonna need to break the tougher blocks hiding yet more blueprints and other rare items. I think I was stuck with the second-tier (of five tiers) shotgun until effectively the post-game, though this was in part due to me thinking one batch of tough blocks was harder to break than they actually were (thought they were level 3 tough but they were only level 2). - Leaving areas is... not always stable. This was mostly an issue on the Random Dungeons, where I'd get to one of the five-level checkpoint clears and try to head back to town and save, only to have it freeze while trying to load, which got very frustrating if it happened several runs in a row or after a tenth-level boss fight. It did become a lot less frequent an issue after finishing the story, so I'm not sure if unlocking all the possible stage formats and access to depth 100 stabilized things somehow or what. I also encountered the freeze-on-return-home issue occasionally coming back from regular Smokestack Mountain areas, but at least with those you can safety save in the safe rooms before attempting to come back. Definitely do that, just in case. - There's a LOT of reading, especially tied to the vehicle restorations and the diner conversations that net you some extra stuff and achievements. For the most part, it's nice to get additional insight to the other characters' lives and Stamp's inner monologue, but they can get kind of repetitive in a few cases. The most egregious is the last local you unlock to talk to at the diner, who basically presents you with ten different instances of the exact same conversation in different words. If you're chatting with a rabbit going on about a musical clam, just hammer the A button and save yourself the trouble. So yeah, there are some issues, and in some respects it feels like they wanted to do more or at least integrate some aspects a little more directly into gameplay rather than relegating them to huge text dumps, but on the whole? I had a fun time. I am, admittedly, the kind of guy who likes to zone out and just grind away at things for a bit sometimes, which might've flavored things more positively for me than it may others.
Remember when Sony released the PSP and mainline non-canon IPs made games for it that all felt like bootlegs? (Daxter, R&C size matters, Those two God of wars) This game would fit right in among those. It has a all star cast of VAs but a lack of content that is spread out thin and pumped up with grinding endless quests. Would've made a better Roguelite than a Metroidvania, could've even done both. I'd only recommend it if you have nothing else you rather do, its on sale, and you have a steam deck with a long train/plane ride ahead of you.

UwU

UwU
