Rune Classic

Does not hold up at all Unless you were there at the launch I wouldn't recommend this game. Its a hack n slash sometimes but its also a frustrating platformer. Nostalgia is what kept me going to a point until I was just bored this game is 9 to 12 hours long depending if you get lost looking where to go. Its the moment to moment gameplay that suffers, the first few hours of the game is a crab and goblin killer through caverns it could be few hours before you see a cutscene. The combat is laughable in the wake of Dark Souls, there's no parrying, rolling, lock on, just block and swipe. Ocarina of Time had a more complex fighting system. You do get magic later in game each weapon grants you a power up of sorts for a short time that's 4 to 5 hours in though. It also added verticalliity to platforming and this is why you will need to quick save, a lot. Nothing like climbing a rope jumping to ledge only to miss and fall to your death. Timing jumps to the wind over chasms only to miss your landing and once again die. Its also can leave you scratching your head where to go cause you've been walking in circles by a breakable wall for 10 minutes. Why I have fond memories of this game was the atmosphere and tone, this is a viking game that's dark and brutal, unlike God of War Ragnarok there are no moments of beauty and wonder in Rune. You don't see level design like this anymore but the game feels vast and makes you feel the size and danger of this world, it fills you with dread. It was an ambitous game for its time the story is a revenge tale, taking you through many viking vistas. The voice acting was great and well written they speak with odd shakesperean term thrown in, "Heed me Ragnar, your route to vengence will take you through this..." The game has great moments a descent story but it feels to bloated and simplistic for gamers today, especially with God of War setting the new standard for storytelling in games. Man what I wouldn't give for a remake done like Sekiro.

Бодрый слэшер из нулевых. Лихая рубка на мечах. Смачный чоп чоп чоп без лишнего. Да чуть душноватые уровни, но в рамках 00-х - это нормально. Главное насилие с расчленёнкой. Жаль, что продолжение было убогим мусором. Но и к Rune classic есть пара вопросов, например, зачем вырезали десять вполне сносных уровней? Зачем скелетам выдали римский меч до того, как его находим по сюжету? Те кому хочется немного другой руны и еще руны в целом стоит посмотреть в сторону [b] Rune Viking Warlord [/b]с PS2. Эмулируется хорошо, содержит в себе кучу изменений, упрощённые уровни и в целом более разнообразное графическое исполнение. Не вторая часть но всё же. Память иногда рисует, что таких игр как rune было много. Но на деле их было весьма немного и все вышли в относительно один и тот же период времени, чтобы потом кануть в лету как жанр (Чумовая Рубка на Мечах). Die By the sword (на Dreamcast была вторая часть) Drakan (На пс2 была вторая часть) Blade of darkness - чистый пк экз Enclave - ну такое. Crusaders of Might and Magic - слабый экшончик но была версия на PS1 чуть бодрее. Ну и как бы всё.

Download the game from GoG. This release here is with shorten single player campaign on some places and multiplayer isn't working. GoG lets you install this version and the Rune GOLD version (1.08) which has active online servers.

I won’t say much, but this game is a masterpiece! The level design is truly interesting, and the combat system may not reach the stars, but it can still surprise you. Definitely recommended, especially if you’re a fan of Blade of Darkness like I am! 20 out of 10!

На год релиза, без сомнения, эта игра была топовой. Не могу сказать, что она не прошла проверку временем. Играется до сих пор бодро, интересно, однако она очень затянута, что портит впечатление от проекта.

Хорошая игра, есть некоторые недостатки, в конце ощущается немного затянутой, но в целом норм, на 7.5/10 Сюжет минимальный, в основном это простой линейный экшн. Идём вперёд, блуждаем по закоулкам, жмём рычаги, нарезаем противников, ищем куда же идти дальше, есть немного платформинга. Боёвка весёлая, но простая, немного хаотичная и ощущается устаревшей. Есть только 1 вид удара и блок, если есть щит. Но блокирование не работает нормально(как в современных играх), ты блокируешь удар противника, пытаешься ударить - и сразу же получаешь в лицо. Так что приходится прыгать и бегать вокруг противника, при ударе крутить камерой, пытаясь задеть незащищённую часть тела, либо просто долбиться в щит чтобы выбить его или сломать. При этом похоже оружие наносит урон именно по своей траектории движения, что прикольно. Есть расчленёнка, можно случайно отрубить противнику руку и добить его ей, или просто кинуть в кого-нибудь головой
