About
About This Game
The world didn’t end in a single moment.
No clear beginning or end.
It faded — quietly, slowly — leaving behind places filled with silence, traces, and unanswered questions.
ROTEN is an open-world zombie multiplayer, PvP PvE survival experience focused on atmosphere, exploration, and environmental storytelling. The world is open, hostile, and indifferent to your presence. You are free to move through it at your own pace, choosing where to go, what to explore, and what to leave behind.
Abandoned houses, isolated roads, forgotten facilities, and remote points of interest remain scattered across the landscape. Some tell their stories openly. Others reveal nothing unless you stop, look closer, and pay attention.
There are no forced narratives.
No quest markers telling you what to feel.
Meaning is found through observation — through objects left behind, scenes frozen in time, and small details that suggest what once happened, and what didn’t.
The infected roam freely.
They are not puzzles or scripted encounters. They are a constant presence, shaping how you move, fight, and survive. Sometimes they block your path. Sometimes they remind you that noise, speed, and carelessness have consequences.
Survival is simple, but never easy.
You will search abandoned locations for supplies, weapons, and vehicles. You will decide when to fight, when to avoid conflict, and when to move on. Every journey between locations carries risk, and every place you enter may offer safety, danger, or nothing at all.
Some locations exist only to be passed through.
Others stay with you long after you leave.
ROTEN does not rush you.
It does not explain itself.
The world exists whether you are watching or not.
Explore a large handcrafted open world filled with unique locations and points of interest

Drive vehicles and travel freely across the world

Really hope to see this game grow even more. Very fun as it is, lots of potential!
How the hell is this game not in Early Access? That makes absolutely no sense. You can’t properly use items, and you can’t even get out of cars. I honestly don’t know what else to say. Definitely keep your hands off this for now. Edit: Now there is an Early Access Status , but it is sadly still dont playable at all.
Game is okay i dont see it being anything more as there are many projects like this that get unfinished. The assets are minimal and are mostly free packs. No to say there has not been any thought or work put into the game as it has some unique things. The Ui is basic and has no work put into it. No keybind editing No sound sliders Very basic character creation No information when highlighting items. Very basic AI that will aggro and spawn periodically around you giving no immersion Poor loot just beer and beer and fishing rods. I cant recommend this at £8.50 it is no way near worth it as there are way better games out there to buy in this category. This for me is a £2.99 to £3.99 Alpha game that even though it is in positive its got a long way to go to hit that £8.50 mark.
This is absolute jank. I cannot understand the concept behind the game or why this was released in the state it is in. I went in as a solo player to try this since I got it for Father's Day. Here are my experiences with the game. No audio controls. Zombies scream the entire time you are punching them and you can't turn it down. No save option. You die? You start over. No tutorial of any kind. Where to go, what to do, nothing. Cannot find crafting mats other than stones. I fished up wood from the river but you won't find any laying under trees like you do in other games of this kind. Good luck finding the metal you need for the axe, I never saw any. NPC behavior makes no sense. Zombies respond to activity in a set area not LOS on the player. I can be 5 feet from group of zombies and they stand there looking at me, but if I walk into the area they are assigned, they immediately bum rush me. So you cannot lure them away and leave them in another place while you loot. I managed to kill some zombies by cheesing them to the end of the tether they are on and punching them. You have to punch one zombie 12 times to kill it. It punches you 3 times and you die. WTF, seriously? Can't loot anything because of how the npcs zerg you when you step into an area. Can't craft anything because I can't find anything other than rocks on the ground. And this is supposed to be fun? NPCs are too aggressive and way too strong. Got ambushed by 5 soldiers at one of the POIs with military tents. They shot me dead in 2 seconds. Got attacked by a group of zombies trying to loot a building, they killed me in 3 hits. Tried going to the downed aircraft on the far side of the map. Soldiers started shooting at me from a football field away. Zombies drop random, stupid loot. All the zombies I killed dropped fishing poles, bread, beer, cloth and 2 kinds of wheat seeds. That was it. No clothing, no weapons, no medical stuff. I managed to fish a pistol out of the river along with 3 pairs of boots and some fish. No ammo though. So enjoy punching zombies. You run out of food/water in under 5 minutes. Eat the bread and lose water. Drink the beer, loose food. The fish at least gave both plus health but you are burning more food/water by fishing than they provide in return. One more thing: Game spools up my system on max settings, something the other low poly zed games do not do. Optimization needs work. I love these low poly zombie games. I have a bunch in my library. But this one? No idea what this "game" is supposed to be doing. A root canal without Novocaine would be more enjoyable than playing this for more than 5 minutes and I gave it almost 100 minutes. I get this is a first time game for the dev and I am trying not to discourage them. There is the makings of a good game here under all the issues. But unless things change for the better and addresses the things outlined above I can not recommend this game in its current state. Refunded.
Buffing melee stamina in exchange for zombies being able to fight back alone could be fun
Im enjoying it so far. I understand it's still in Early Access, and for what it offers right now, it has a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to seeing how the game develops over time. Cheers
quite a lot of bugs so far it needs quite a lot of work on it, but the potential is there.
Nice game. Since it's early access, i cant criticize it for having bugs Good job devs, waiting for updates
it's not my usual genre so i will point what i'm missing from other survival games like raft or ranch sim, the game is quite dark so it would be nice to add a brightness setting, it would also be nice to add some tutorial or initial quests to learn what to do otherwise it's easy to get lost Days and nights should increase the difficulty gradually in terms of the number of zombies, missing map or for teammates to spawn next to each other, names of items in inventory, places that we know are safe or extremely dangerous
The game is pretty decent. I would add the option to enable markers that players can turn on, as well as better guidance — people are just dumb, myself included. So far the game looks good and has potential :) For that price it’s fine. I’ll rate it more properly later. For example, an introduction to the game would be nice, even a short one, and some kind of story too — even if it was just a minute long. It would also be cool to let players write their own background and have some kind of AI read it. Allowing things like creating clans and similar features would be great too. I don’t know yet, I only have a few hours played, so I’ll see how it develops and where it goes. Well, I’m going to rate it now. What really bothers me is how quickly the zombies respawn, and it would also be useful to have a map so you could, for example, find your friend. That’s all for now.Alright, I’m going to update my review. What really bothers me is how quickly the zombies respawn, and it would also be useful to have a map so you could, for example, find your friend. That’s all for now. Tiež by bolo super, keby si hráč mohol napísať vlastný background a nejaká AI by si to prečítala. Umožniť vytváranie klanov a podobné veci by bolo tiež super.
