Rot Gut

[h1]SUMMARY[/h1] NES-Noir game ends before it even begins. So, I wasn't expecting much. Bought this years back and it's been sitting on my backlog ever since...Maybe 2017, 2016? Anyways, I finally got around to playing it and boy, what a disappointment. First off, there's 6 levels and 2 bosses, none of which are particularly challenging. The bosses I didn't die once on, and when I died on the levels, which are, at most, 5 minutes long, I started back at the beginning of the level. Once you get into the groove of the gameplay though, it shouldn't be a problem. The simplistic AI and mostly straight-forward level design keeps this from becoming much of a chore. Where the game fails is the fact that it presents you with a connecting story that is left vague on purpose. Who are the baddies? Who is the guy that died in the beginning? Who are you? Why do you care? What does it all mean after you defeat the boss? None of this is answered, none of it particularly matters either. The level design on top of this is very basic, with very little of interest going on. For the most part you'll be jumping around samey-looking environments, sometimes with it venturing outdoors or underground, neither one being particularly unique. Where it also fails is in its mechanics. You earn coins from crates and chests and some enemies, which you spend on ammo or health. Honestly, it felt like there could have been better uses for money, like on permanent upgrades. Perhaps buying increased health, permanent armor upgrade, larger magazine sizes, whatever, it just felt like it needed more to justify the money mechanic. As for the 3 weapons, once you start getting enough money for shotgun ammo and SMG ammo, you no longer need the pistol at all. Generally not worth your time, even at only about a half hour in length. a good platformer shooter game in retro style. I recommend it. unfortunatelly the game is very short. 7 level´s. 2 bosses. a couple different guns. cool music. the price is in offer a gift. all achievements work.

Cool, entertaining game. Possibly a little short. 1-2 levels more would have been ok. Duration 30-45 minutes. Was fun! Controls are fine after a short practice.

Really short metroidvania. Didn't really expect much but I'd say it delivered. If you think otherwise you can probably complete the game and still be able to refund using Steam's 2 hour refund policy.

Great little game, it's short and pretty easy but still really fun. Cool music and only cost about £2.

Very fun little platform simple shooter. I wish there was more to the game but what is there is fun and engaging. 8/10
