rooMaze is a first person hardcore roguelike with voxel graphics and procedurally generated levels! All of this is powered by Unreal Engine 4. Don't let acute-angled cubes deceive you as behind a simple visual style lies the all-consuming hardcore.

Kept getting errors and crashes. Oh well.

Her seferinde rastgele bölüm tasarımı ortaya çıkıyor. şiddetle tavsiye ederim.

Basic Information Title: rooMaze Status: Released Developer: ChairKilling Publisher: Sometimes You Genre: 3D Role Playing Game Release Date: 3rd of March, 2017 Type: Singleplayer General Impression I can appreciate a game that feels underpriced for once, after reviewing so many overpriced releases on Steam that I could fill this page just with their titles. A game like rooMaze may not speak volumes just by glancing at its price tag, but I assure you that it is adequately packed to take you on an RPG nostalgia trip that you’ll remember for quite some time. Keep in mind that this is also the developer’s first foray onto Steam. They made an impression on me, that’s for certain. I was fairly young when I attempted to play dungeon crawlers for the first time. I couldn’t understand them plotwise, nor was I well-versed in English. Yet such games, back then in crude (by today’s standards) 2D were far more complex than their contemporary shooting and platforming titles as far as the gameplay was concerned. This particular type of RPG subgenre has had several attempts at revival over the last decade but despite all efforts, dungeon crawlers never attracted a substantial fanbase such as the cases were with story-driven D&Ds or the ever modern hack 'n' slash. To be fair, rooMaze is tagged as being roguelike and not a full-fledged dungeon crawler, since you’re playing solo in this game. No party-based combat system and as a result you can mold your nameless protagonist however you see fit, since there are three classes to choose from. Ranger, Warrior and Mage. The last two are staples of the fantasy genre and subsequently most RPGs you played so far. Ranger is special though. It doesn’t necessarily imply a bow and arrow setup since you’ll be able to use firearms as well. Definitely not a 9mm handgun, but some primitive flintlocks are still better than the crossbows you’ll be wielding most of the time should you pick the Ranger class. I personally did, since I’m tired of the same old stereotypes with either the wizend but still amnesiac mage that has to learn all his spells on the go, or the even more boring dude that’s waving a slashing/bludgeoning piece of metal at his foes until they drop. And ever since playing Morrowind, I’ve decided that the ranged stealth option was my favorite method of dispatching RPG enemies. There’s obviously no stealth involved in rooMaze sadly. What you do get though, is a randomly generated dungeon everytime you play. Whatever the objectives might be, survival is your first and foremost duty since the dungeon is filled to the brim with deadly foes and traps in equal measure. Couple that with a permadeath system and you can bet that you’ll be dying a lot before you get the hang of it. The complete lack of a plot or even a flimsy tutorial only makes things worse but I’m willing to be more forgiving with the game since it emulates the old school difficulty of its subgenre precursors. It even features an injury diagram where you can observe and mend those wound, whether they are bone fractures or lacerations. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen that being implemented in a video game. Now onto the less stellar aspects of this title. As I mentioned above, the open-ended structure and procedural asset generation, leave little room for the conformity of a campaign storyline. You won’t be left wanting for activities since the RPG barebones stuff is included (such as exploring, basic crafting or fighting) but the game surely deserved some context to it. What really bothered me though, was the absence of sound diversity and the maximum resolution of just 1080p. Trust me, I tried to force the game running in 2K and 4K to no avail. It might seem like a “first world problem” to some, yet we’re in 2017 and some crazy folks out there are already designing, shipping and trying to convince everyone that 5K is the new must-have standard for eye candy. I’m perfectly fine with running some titles at 1920x1080 resolution, but at least offer me enough antialiasing options to nullify those hideous jagged edges I kept seeing everywhere in-game. It's running Unreal Engine 4 assets so don’t tell me that the 4K resolution is unwarranted. Still, even those cons can’t force me to deduct a lot from its final rating. As if you needed me to remind you one more time, you get more than what you pay for. Grabbing rooMaze in a cheap bundle, is like receiving it for free at this point. Strong Points + Procedurally generated assets. + Nice voxel graphics. + Decently priced. + Steam Trading Cards & Achievements. Weak Points - No tutorial or proper storyline. - Limited resolution options. - Next to no in-game sounds. Rating 75/100
