I haven't even played for more than 2 hours. However, I did a couple clears using continues, and I can tell I am going to have a lot of fun trying to 1cc this. Steam is telling me that controllers are not supported, but my xinput gamepad works perfectly, so I don't know what's going on there.
Doesn't have options to remap the keyboard and when played with a controller, for some reason, it's impossible to shoot, only move your ship.
Only two other shmups rank as high as Rolling Gunner in my opinion (Cave Classics, DoDonPachi Resurrection and Mushihimesama), to my understanding some ex Cave developers worked on Rolling Gunner. The beauty of Rolling Gunner is in its style and gameplay, difficulty is just right and the game feels very balanced, very addictive. OverPower DLC adds a new control method and a very powerful front cannon shot, this makes the game easier but also different thanks to the change in controls. I'd recommend playing the original version first and then playing through OverPower (unless you want an easier time straight away). Frantic, challenging and fun would be the words to describe Rolling Gunner. It's a beautiful love letter to classic bullet hell shmups made popular by the likes of Psikyo, Toaplan, and then perfected by Cave. Fingers crossed Mebius can keep the quality shmups coming.
Nice! It's a horizontal shooter but it's a full 360 degree shootfest. Really gets all your mental pistons firing. I don't think I have a shooter like this in my collection to date, and I get pretty much all of the Steam ones. Very very good shooter, highly recommended. I got the OverPower DLC when I bought the base game, and the DLC makes it a lot easier. On my first try I got to level 3 and usually I can't make it past the first level. Very fun game. Works great with an Xbox controller on PC. Haven't tried it on the Steam Deck yet. Going to assume it works great since any game that works with a controller works great on the Deck. If you like shooters, this is a solid one. Don't miss. Great pacing, music, everything is just well done.
One of my favorite hori SHMUPs of all time. This game rewards time put into it, with increased expertise revealed upon each play. The OVERPOWER edition changes gameplay to being less about dodging & more about bullet-cancellation & aggressive gameplay, with the addition of twin-stick mechanics. Creates a state of deep flow when gameplay is at its most intense. I'm ready for ROLLING GUNNER 2!
Is this what it feels like to dodge rain?
While the military aesthetics are well trod for the shmup genre and will offer no surprises to anyone who has even heard of the genre before, the gameplay gimmick of a secondary weapon whose direction of fire is controlled by which direction you fly is so elegant, yet so simple. It completely changes the flow and direction of combat, adding whole new layers of thought to a genre well in need of innovation. Add to that its competent visual and audio design and a suite of QoL features to help smooth the ride, this is an easy recommendation to any bullethell and shootemup fans.
Un des meilleurs shmups horizontaux auxquels j'ai pu jouer ! tout est bon, gameplay, design, musiques... fan de shmups, il est à mettre dans votre collection ! One of the best horizontal shmups I've ever played! Everything is good, gameplay, design, music... Shmups fan, it's a must-have in your collection!
this game is brutally unforgiving, but when it clicks it becomes one of the best blends of a game who's gimmick is used to a greatest extent and a standard arcade game with strong fundamentals. yea I'm also excited for elexfalter
The game´s great and runs flawlessly. For those who got incompatibility problems with controls and arcade sticks: you MUST deactivate the Steam input in order for the game to recognise all of your buttons and your lever. Besides you reduce the input lag too by deactivating Steam input so DO IT.
