Review is based on tablet play. This is an absolutely great tablet game , on any platform other than Steam. On steam, there's no touch screen implementation! Thus, can't recommend an otherwise strong title.
Go Bananaman Go!
Silly fun. ROCKET RIOT is great for an hour here and there (it can get boring otherwise). I love the Bananaman song, and I bought the soundtrack just for it! Keep up the great work, developers.
Imagine Worms with real time battles rather than turn based ones, and being equipped with only Bazookas and Jet packs for battle. Throw in some explosions reminiscent from Lemmings; You end up with Rocket Riot. I played this when it first came out on the Xbox 360 and is good fun. Multiplayer is sadly missing from this version but single player is still a hoot.
The silliness and humor that you see in the trailer is basically the limit of the silliness and humor that seems to be in the game, with the exception of a few lines of "story", and one power-up that shoots random junk, which is pretty funny. The game at level one is exactly the same as the game going forward. I got to level 21, a survival level, before I decided to switch characters to one of the 30 some-odd that I had unlocked, but apparently they're just skins. Wooo-hooooo..... It is extremely monotonous. The controls are fluid enough, when using a XBOX 360 controller, but the feeling of powerfully blowing stuff up goes away after the first 20 minutes or so. And then that's all you're doing...over and over and over again. You never get more powerful or anything, other than the random power ups that drop in the level. The levels are very boring. At least everything is destructible (by both the player and the enemies), but that also makes all of the levels feel very generic, since they all boil down to some space with some stuff sometimes in your way. Maybe I'm just not the target audience, as I'm not big on this type of game in the first place (I only had it because it came in a bundle), but for something that costs $10, I would've thought it would be at least interesting, or maybe funny. Nope. 3/10 - Visuals were meh, sounds were meh, gameplay was fun at first, then boring. Didn't encounter any bugs, though.
I played it back on 360 and had some good times. Steam version is also pretty solid. Honestly if it had online multiplayer like the 360 I am sure it would be totally dead, so the single player experience is fine for me. Fun gameplay for floating around and blowing up pixels with rockets.
