I mean... if you took one look at this and said "This might be decent"... you need to get your head examined. I bought this in a humble bundle 5+ years ago for $11 with like a bunch of other better games, just got bored enough to go and give it a whirl... something mindless while I killed some time... yeah brutal. It's as bad as it looks... if you cherish the memory of the original game, don't even bother, it takes a huge diarrhea dump all over it. Graphics are cell phone quality trash and so are the animations and game play... can't say much about the music because it's a bunch of ambient noises for the most part and like wooshing air sounds in the flying sections. I figured it might have some promise in the music category, seeing as they tease you with a remix of the original song from the very first Rocket Knight game in the first level. I was expecting some cool Sparkster music mixed in as well but after the first stage the music basically goes silent... what a joke. I don't even understand the logic of the devs on the game's mechanics either, for the most part it all makes sense and has some good quality of life stuff... except they decided to make Sparksters ranged attacks consume his rocket boost bar and have it's own dedicated button. I remember in the first game he would just shoot out blades of air at a distance for the cost of nothing cause he was just awesome that way... nothing like gimping the hero for the sake of game play mechanics, however, I digress... The real offense is that in the original game, Sparkster could dash in any direction he damn well wanted.... in this version? Left, Left-Up, Up, Right-Up and Right... that's it... no down-ward or down-ward diagonal dashes for him this game... I just don't get it... There's actually a stage where this tech would have come in insanely handy to break floor boards to find power ups but instead they have you ricocheting off of walls and ceilings... Meaning, the animation for this tech exists, but they limit it to only showing when you bounce off of walls and ceilings... this game is just trash. It looks like trash, it plays like trash, and it takes a giant dump all over the memory of the original games. These games were sleeper hits at the time, cult classics that grew in status over the years. I remember always loving Rocket Knight Adventures and Sparkster when I was a child, so much so that I purchased them both and still own them to this day and they're worth quite a bit of $_$... this game? Isn't worth the time it took me to write this review... but meh... I was feeling generous... stay the hell away from this junk.
I love you
It's a very ugly game, both aesthetically and technically. Controls are floaty and its generally not fun to control Sparkster. Level design is mostly simple platforming and enemy spam with none of the creativity from the previous games. One level of Rocket Knight Adventures probably has more ideas and energy than this entire game. There's very few bosses but that's fine because they're all terrible. Axel Gear's fight is particularly bad, who thinks a good rival fight consists of the rival awkwardly floating above as you slowly boost up to them to swat them like a fly 20+ times? Shmup stages are so slow and uneventful they're basically torture. There's not much reason to spend the 3 hours it takes to beat the game and even less reason to pay money for the privilege. Unless you really want to relive that time in the 7th console generation where Keiji Inafune tricked the entire Japanese games industry into thinking that they're valueless and should outsource all their projects to western shovelware developers.
Ahhh I love old school platformers!!!!!
Incredibly underrated platformer.
Pelo preço vale muito a pena.
resoluçao ta bugada mais da pra ajeita e jogar o jogo e muito bom 7 conto bem gasto
Wow! Absolutely recommend, worth every penny. I grew up Playing Rocket Knight Adventures as a kid, and when I saw they released this sequel to Sparkster in 2010 I had to try it! It's just about everything I'd hop for in a modern RKA game! Very fun, snappy controls. Nice graphics and music, a mixture of platforming and shoot em up. They did a great job paying tribute to the first game and fixing changes that were implemented in Sparkster RKA 2 that didn't work as well for the series. I recommend playing with a controller, it worked excellently. There was one glitch I experienced where the first Axel boss fight is too easy, after a bit of the fight he gets stuck on one of the walls and you can just wack em till the fight is over. Aside from that glitch it was pretty seamless. No very hard mode, which is a bummer. That would of been nice. It is cool that this game has achievements. Always love that. It is short and sweet as you would expect from a RKA game. Would love to see this ported physically to Switch or PS5 with improvements and fixes! That would be awesome.
3/5
