When playing Robocop movie.
Robocop, What a blast from the past. Have you ever heard of Robocop? Have you seen movies from the 80s and below? Or just like to keep things modern and up to date? Well, I have news for you. You're in for a real treat. So let's get to this kick butt of a review that truly honor's and does right by such a famous name. What is Robocop? Basically it is based off of a movie made in the late 1980's of a typical good by the book cop Alex Murphy who transferred to Droit police department set in a futuristic setting where Crime, drugs, greed, and just face palm stupidity in terms of commercials, products and more! On one patrol he set off on he was captured and killed but was kept barely alive and given a new life in a kind of Frankenstein kind of experiment where he was revived in a metal shell and super strength along with some pretty handy tech. If you have never seen the original Robocop movies 1-3. Please. Go to your local library and rent them unless you are able to stream them for free. They are truly great works! So getting back to the real deal, the game itself. If you have watched the movies you will instantly recognize all the characters along with some new that were in the original movies. Alex transformed into Robocop looks, acts, sounds just as true to the movies themselves. If you have never seen the movies. That's okay! There is always another day. So new comers will learn all about Alex and his past and see the cool gifts he is given in his new life. Along with the struggles he faces. Those that again, seen the movies will feel right at home. You are not replaying the old movies. You are playing a entirely new story that seems to take place before the events of Robocop 3. But again spans a entirely different story that ultimately leads up the other Robocop video game that is released on Steam. During the course of the game you work from the Police department helping out with some optional tasks, drive to the city where you often go to for a few times but no worries! The game is always changing in terms of giving you new different tasks or having you go into different buildings where you explore levels that are small or large helping citizens with their problems or seeking out criminals. You do investigations that lead you to some spooky things that is ultimately the main story of the game. Crime scene investigations, hell you even help the public safely by issuing tickets to people/cars that are doing illegal or against the law acts. And as you do all these things you gain XP that will allow you to lvl up granting you skill points to spend however you please that grant you some cool perks. You watch and see how Alex struggles against his humanity and being a machine whom big corporate heads want to either destroy or control for their own needs. You see this over the game and have special dialogue options that effect how you impact characters around you along with how you see yourself. Do you see yourself as a Robot, or are you and have and always been Alex Murphy? Do you support the big Corporation OCP? Or do you fight for the town as it is now? The choice is yours. And hell, they did great justice with how Robocop act's. It's just done....beautifully and marvelously. Combat. As mentioned you level up to get perks, and some of these perks benefit your combat in all kinds of fun ways. I don't want to spoil the fun for you. But they are pretty neat. Nothing too crazy out the book though. But you do get to use movie issued specially built-in pistol that can ultimately be upgraded with all kinds of different motherboards that offer different types of passive boons be it dealing dmg, focusing on being more accurate, doing more penetration, all round stuff and some other goodies. This can be a challenge in some ways because it acts like a circuit board right? But over the course of the game you find OCP chests that contain these mini chips you install on whatever motherboard suits your tastes. These grow as you find more or complete the game. But anyway, the chips look like pipes they can be 4 way pipes like a cross, a tube, 3 way or a 2 way sort of direction in various directions that cannot be turned. Why can it be a challenge? Well...to be fair its not too bad of a challenge...but you have to keep in mind that these motherboards have negative impacts that are conjoined to the positive perks. But these can be negated by you using the right chips so the "links" don't connect from main power source (start of the motherboard) to the positive perks you do want to keep/upgrade. And speaking of chips you can get more powerful versions by simply combining them. Bad news is what you get is obviously stronger but entirely random in terms of the type of chip you get. (can be a 1 way, a 4 way, etc.) One thing to mention is that although you can use the enemy dropped weaponry such as pistols, shotguns, etc. You cannot, will not carry a massive amount of spare ammunition for that weapon if you use it. You are a metal shelled cop after all. Not a human with pockets and pouches and ammo clips, etc. So you will need to pick up the same weapons to get those clips refilled. (With 1 spare magazine or two mind you) Graphics are so gorgeous. There are silly little graphical bugs though. (Hardly any, no worries) For example for some oddball reason they want to make the back of Robocops head look fuzzy when he enters his patrol car and heads to his next location. But I don't care. This game is awesome. Game length, achievements and difficulty. Well, I think I pretty much cleared the game taking my sweet time by trying to check nooks and crannies', trying to find evidence of stolen items, drugs, documents, etc. Trying to find and do all the side quests I can. Make my decisions on what I want for my character and others seemed to be around 20-22hours. Good enough for me for a game that isn't priced too high. Thank God for that. Achievements is something you don't need to worry about too terribly. Sure there are somethings that you may miss. (For me it was two, but the rest? I think you won't have tooooooo much of a problem if that's something you love to work on.) But that's okay if you do miss out. Because this game made a new game plus mode you can play after you beat the game. Allowing you to retain the XP skill points you earned, as well as offering you a brand new difficulty setting which is pretty nice considering you most likely having a heavily upgraded Robocop that kicks but, yet can still be given a proper beating keeping the game fair and sometimes challenging if you are not careful. Overall I think this game is perfect for both new players and old alike. Offering you a great look at a bleak future that can shrine bright with the help of you. So, ask yourself this. Are you ready to take a bite out of crime and service justice cold? Peace.
Highly recommended if you like 80's movies and RoboCop. This is what RoboCop 3 should have been
Nice old schooly game. I enjoyed it very much. In 13 hours it doesn't overstay its welcome. Worked well on Linux with Proton Experimental. All in all, would recommend.
