A wonderful successor to the first game! You play as the same Roman general as the first Roads of Rome. After finding out that your new father-in-law (Caesar) gets poisoned, you go on a quest to build roads to the Gods and get their blessing for a cure. You must collect food, wood, stone, and gold to build the "Roads of Rome" Each level is unique with different objectives and gets more challenging as you progress through the game. Some chapters have seasonal changes which effect gameplay and I noticed on certain levels you can get "locked out" by not managing the resources right and having to restart the level. As you progress you'll unlock new buildings, upgrades, power ups, and more workers to help you complete the missions within the time limits. Roads of Rome 2 adds new mechanics like the "submarine" as well as a few new buildings. Most of the levels were pretty simple however once you learn the basics, it's quite possible to achieve "Expert" rating on all 40 levels. A wonderful addition is the new Bonus level, which is only unlock-able if you complete "Expert" on every level. This game is perfect for any Casual gamer, or just someone who can't spend long periods of time to play. The story is a basic, however, a cute story. You'll be reminded with story panels every ten levels. The sounds are great, and the graphics are decent. There isn't a lot of replay ability once you beat it on Expert rating however, and I was able to complete it all on Expert in about six hours, including the new bonus level. Each level only takes about 10-15 minutes or so to finish and I'm sure it can be done a lot faster since I was playing it only casually. All in all, a solid game for a solid price! You can't go wrong with this title. A must play if you enjoyed the first!
