Idea for the game is great, but the execution is done very poorly. In some places in the menu, there is controller support, but not in the game where it would benefit. There is no way of configuring the controls, nor there is no difficulty settings. The game controls somehow feel sluggish and combined with insta-kill obstacles, the game is way too hard. There is no clear way to select levels, only to select a song. When selecting a song, it doesn't provide constant level based on that song, but all the obstacles are random. That means that the rythmgame element in this game doesn't work. In conclusion: avoid this game.
Road Legends is a crap three lane Guitar Hero ripoff except you just have a car and you bop between one of three lanes as blobs scroll down towards you. What fun, not. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game features lazy low-polygon "retro" assets, making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks bad as a result of their decisions, a compromise PC gamers shouldn't have to put up with. The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. In an attempt to excuse the low quality of delivery here, the game makes a big point of having a nice soundtrack. If the business plan for a game is to compete with Spotify, which is free and has effectively unlimited music, all of which is better than the music here, it's failed before it even started. Gamers can listen to the Spotify for free. A game cannot be seen as recommendable just because it competes badly with listening to the radio or to MP3s. The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game only ever reached a peak player count of only 2 players. That's right, only 2. This is a pitiful enough number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is remarkable, but also to be expected. This complete and utter rejection of the game from gamers should be a keen information point for anyone considering buying shovelware like this. Gamers just didn't take this seriously, and for good reason. Understandably, the developers removed this from sale on Steam when they realised how crap the game is.
Road Legends is an endless runner with some sweet beats, but has several flawed designs. The game is brutally unforgiving and will force you to restart if you hit any obstacle even if you make it through 99% of the stage. Each stage is beatable, but will require sharp reflexes and the ability to look ahead, if you have some experience with rhythm games, you should be fine on the lowest speed. The procedural generated nature of stages can create some nearly frame perfect requirements so get ready to replay each stage multiple times if trying for 3 star finishes. The music is Road Legend's strongest points, but it's game design runs counter to being able to enjoy the music. A combination of difficult stages, instant failure on any collision, and success being largely time dependent, creates a dominant strategy of driving as slow as possible, which means listening to the tracks at 50% speed, ruining any such experience. Visually the game looks great. Cars are very detailed and animate nicely. The map is beautiful and has a cool synthwave/cyberpunk aesthetic, but the game lacks variety, all 10 tracks use the same map which gets boring overtime. The game has two broken achievements which hasn't been addressed by the developers despite reports originating from 2018. Even removing these achievements would probably satisfy achievement hunters as they are intermediate achievements anyways. Overall I have mixed feelings about Road Legend. I won't recommend this game in this state, as the negatives outweigh the positives, and there doesn't seem to be anything particularly innovative about the title, but it's honestly not that bad.
Game feels like its been made in an afternoon or two for a student project. Not even all achievements work. Dont bother. Im on a quest of at least trying every game in my library, of which I got plenty from all kinds of cheap mass-bundles, others I bought directly, yet others from sites like nivqgames. So please dont judge me for owning this title in the first place :D If you are interested in my journey, check out my other reviews :)
Levels feel like they take 5x longer than they actually are. A great way to agonisingly stretch out 2 minutes to what feels like 10 if it's your last day of summer break and don't want to go back to school. The game also features some garbage tier level generation that will put two targets in the outer lanes as close together as possible making it not only nearly impossible to spam the turn keys quick enough, but then it will literlally throw a bomb between he two points.
