This game is great! :) I am sorry about the negative reviews. I think most of the negative feedback is coming from ROI 1 players, who were not taking the changes very well. Perhaps this game should be called someting like Rise Of Industry - Corporate relations. (!?) My review is for ROI 1 players: WHAT IS THE SAME OR ALMOST THE SAME? - great production chains. This game is still about complex, beautiful production chains. - simple transportation system. This game is still not about managing how your products will go from point A to point B, nor is it about various trucks and trains. - research system. This game still operates with locked goods and perks at the beginning, that you have to unlock. The system is now that you collect Research points that you can spend. Also, I am missing the tech tree kind of view. The new window is basically a list without any visual aid. - cute graphics. If you liked ROI 1 graphics, you'll like this too. It is even more pleasing now, and it's fully 3d. WHAT IS NEW OR VERY DIFFERENT? - completely new selling system. You are not selling to towns anymore. You have to make contracts and sell/buy to/from other companies. I think it became more realistic now, but it is very different now! - managing employees. You have employees now, who are responsible for certain areas of your company. - relationship management. You have employees, managers and business partners. You have to maintain relationships with them. I think this is the dealbreaker here. If you are a production chain only type of guy, this will be annoying for you. This new layer in the game makes a bit of a shift from mathematical to relational. I think some players are not up for that shift. (I am, so I am okay with it, I even like it!) - events. The game gives you events every once in a while. You have options how you react. - investors. Your funding is now coming from investors. They give you certain goals that you have to meet. - maps of a different scale. Maps are now smaller, focusing more on local industries, not regional. - no towns! There are no towns because of the new selling system mentioned earlier. Actually there is usually 1 town in your map, but it's purpose is to provide a workforce for you. Towns grow as your industry grows. - industry complexes. This is a new idea also. You are not placing individual buildings, but complexes. Within a complex you have utility buildings, factories, loading bays, storage facilities etc. One complex usually produces a single product, or more from the same product family. I like this new system, my only complaint is that you should be able to make them bigger if you want. But you can't... You also have the option to add a bit of beautification to your complexes, like hedges, fountains, etc. These are free. - pollution is removed from the game. You don't have to deal with pollution anymore. (I am thankful for that) OVERALL: Try this game if you don't mind the relationship management aspects. If you don't care about people, just want production management, then go with Industry Giant 2, ROI 1, or Captain of Industry.
A lot of other reviews here are rating this game in comparison to Rise of Industry 1. I don't think that's fair but I do think the publisher/developer made a mistake calling this a sequel. This is a totally different game and it should have been marketed as such. If you are looking for something to scratch that openTTD itch continue looking. Now on the game itself. Honestly I wanted to like it. Initially it was fun and interesting. However with each passing hour you see cut corners, bad design and probably last minute bolted on features which increased my frustration to the point I had to write this review. Let me explain: 1. This game was obviously meant to be played in campaign mode compared to ROI1. In campaign mode you have all the bells and whistles. You have investors, random interesting events, the map is the same, but the plot/resource placement is random. So you could technically go a different branching path each run. However since the start is the same your mileage might vary. 2. BUT even in campaign mode the game falls short. In the beginning you are having fun setting up the various complexes and contracts. But after a while it becomes repetitive, the quests in campaign are nothing more than set up factory X, produce Y amount of resource, rinse and repeat until you do it for all the resources that campaign map was designed for. And then nothing, no transfer of resources between maps, no buying out the competition. No impact on the market, no rivals, nothing. You get to pick a different map and then start over from scratch with a different set of resources. 3. Sandbox mode is even more butchered and probably the most unfinished of all. Let me break it down in order you notice them when playing: a) When creating you company/character for some reason you can't pick the character portrait directly, even though there are many, you have to press the random button until you see something you like, you can only set parameters for the randomness (hair color, male/female). What is funny is that even though you now have a "generated" character that represents you (the CEO) you can't actually do anything. Everything is done by various VP's you hire (it's really weird you can't step in, breaks the point of having your character as the CEO if he doesn't do anything). b) When creating the map the game automatically wants to generate the exact same map you already played in campaign, down to the same resource placement and unlocked technologies, which defeats the purpose of the sandbox. The only difference then would be the lack of resource goals/investors, which just makes it less interesting. c) Even if you change the tech level to hard, the game will auto give you some random tech on game start you are supposed to have in that campaign map (there is no way to turn that off), sometimes bogging down your building UI with random complexes you will never build. Why can't you just give me the points and let me choose my starting tech? d) If you set the resources to "chaos" or truly random. Then the start on any map will most likely consist of you waiting around, paying utilities for many in-game months until your VP of research get's you enough points so that you can actually build a complex based on the resources that spawned in your lots (as I said previously you get pre-assigned tech from the campaign on hard mode and no points to buy anything, other modes just give you soo much tech that takes away the point of research). If you try to do this with hard finance also turned on (less money) you will probably be bankrupt before you even place down your first building, with normal you might be able to pull ahead if you got a good spawn (iron, oil, or some other one that is fairly cheap to research but sells for a decent amount). e) Talking about bankruptcies, the game has no concept of economy. Even ROI1 has a basic concept of a loan. In ROI2 if you loose money that's it, you will slowly spiral into doom from which you can't recover aside from reloading. There is no way to take a loan, in the campaign mode, sometimes your investors will give you a loan, but in sandbox since that is turned off you will just slowly perish. You can't go in the negative, you will just hover over 0, the utilities after a time will be turned off, so even if after a couple of in-game days your contract comes to give you money, you won't have power in your complexes to deliver to said contracts, therefore locking you out of recovering even though you have resources. Not to mention your workers who up until that point are a footnote (even though the game tries to fool you into thinking there might be something in regard to unions, or worker demands, in truth there is nothing except a few scripted events, which are few and far between) will start sabotaging your factories because you missed a few in-game days of salary (regardless of how you treated them up until that point). Finally the mayor of the local town who the game is trying to portrait as your government partner, won't bat an eye as an industrial megacomplex, the size of a small state, that employs thousands of workers and basically built his town from scratch dissolves into nothing. The only interaction with the town (aside from random events where the Mayor asks for money or a random resource you don't even make) is that you can invest money into the town to build buildings out of the goodness of your heart so the workers are happier. And then you can't even collect rent! Very communist for a self claimed capitalist game. f) For some reason the game has a concept of decimal number of products. This honestly just irritates me beyond belief. Other management games that have a decimal usually have a way of you resolving it, either through production ratios or something similar. Here the decimal comes from the buyers themselves, which means you will constantly have 1 million metric tons of coal overflowing in all your stockpiles, because buyer is buying 61.57 tones and all your mines have a constant fixed number of resources you mine every turn in the amount of 62 or 65. The game should either remove the concept of decimal trading or give us the option to change the amounts per trade instead of randomly giving us 3 different decimal numbers for each stage of a trade contract. To top it all off, the logistics part of the game is very dumbed down, trains, boats and planes are uncontrollable random 3 resource generating marketplaces on a timer, that don't even show up in sandbox mode if you don't toggle certain settings. I also have a theory that the goods they offer to buy/sell are again predetermined based on the map you picked regardless if you set everything on random sandbox. Only trucks and conveyor belts/pipes can be used to transfer goods between complexes. As for contracted buyers/sellers, they just teleport the goods in/out of your HQ or designated complex every X seconds (depending on the contract) breaking immersion even further (they could have made a simple animation of trucks taking it out of the map).

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This game is not 1.0 it’s early access asking for 35$ it’s only worth 12$ right now. The first couple maps had minor bugs but midland Texas is where it’s clear they stopped working and testing the game. Rails take way too long you don’t get told about regional connections being required until you e built everything and need to buy even more land to put pipes down. This would have been a cool map if these things were explained or just worked logically out of the box. I’m done with this game until they make major updates and spend actual money testing. Wait 4 years and maybe it’ll be good ~~ 6-3-2026~~ So I have replayed Midland and the QoL update in june did help with some things. But I still don't recc this for the average econ gamer. While the underlying system seems to have been resolved and figuring out the pipe connections work similar to water when you scale up, the dashboards aren't always perfect. LNG is the worst offender in midland with the oil wells having a wrong daily, the listed daily is 600 in the dashboard but the building will tell you its actually 60 daily delivered at 10 day intervals. But I did get through midland with a bit of mental math and patience. Sitting at IPO 10m due to going all the way to pharmacueticals. if it receives no more updates; 6/10. Grab it on deep sale or if you are a fan of the series as this does level it up from road logistics to contract delivery and timing logistics.
15 minutes was enough to see what this is. Rise of Industry 2 feels poorly optimized and massively overpriced for what it offers. The UI is clunky, the performance is questionable, and the whole thing just feels unfinished. Instead of enjoying a tycoon game, you end up fighting the interface. For this price, the quality should be way higher. Refunded. Not recommended.
....Any positive reviews on this game are lowkey BS. The game itself has a lot of potential and I enjoyed the first one... This game is dead and broken. No updates. Freeplay is broken and you have to continuously restart until you get utilities close to eachother which can take.... forever. I only have 7.5 hours and enjoyed the scenarios. They are fun.... 34.99 for a game that is broken and not being fixed. Check discussion board before buying :).
The developer are frauds. Stay away from this piece of junk.
Pretty good game, needs upgradeability to base buildings in complexes (Better barns, better fields, better mines etc) in order to be better at scaling without the need to spam complexes and buildings, to achieve X amount of production/harvest rate The contract system, VP system, Company system, are all very unique and I personally haven't seen something like this in another tycoon game (Might be because I haven't played as many) Taking other CEO's and their subordinates to dinners, golf, squash is pretty nice touch to how things really work! Another negative is that sometimes for no reason, the company that you have a contract with, just cancels on you, and you need to have enough influence points (20) in order to dissuade them from doing so. It is very random, and if you don't have the points, then you could have an entire product line just become extremely unprofitable, and might even bankrupt you if you're financially unstable. All in all, I think it's a pretty good and fun game, a few more updates should make it extremely good!
Other top reviews said it best. It's Unintuitive and and laggy. I really wish I didn't buy this game.
I like it a lot so far, the contract mechanics and negotiating with suppliers or customers is a lot more realistic and fun then just selling goods on some miracle market. There's certainly mechanics that could be expanded a lot and some QoL features that should be implemented. For example I would suggest expanding on the worker satisfaction metrics and allowing some adjustment in production rates of a facility (perhaps at the cost of efficiency when deviating from the ideal 100%?). Also the game seems to be very poorly optimized and doesn't run nearly as well as expected of something with this level of graphics and simulation. All in all I still think it's a great game, though 35€ seems a bit overpriced and I would find 25€ more appropriate.
